“But eventually, with the budding of sexual interests, I drifted away from Kaiju films”. This is now my favorite Godzilla related quote
I agree, but I'll always think I will fight the battle bravely and dearly, for that our interests as a kid, will result as a victory.
My sexual interests have never been fulfilled. Girls have never liked me. They don’t even want to look at me!
Now this is what Godzilla vs King Ghidorah should have been!
PLEASE WATCH THE ADS! This editing and format is a brilliant way to tell unmade Kaiju stories.
That last scream Godzilla makes at the end of 85 will always haunt me
This is honestly a really fantastic pitch, it would have been a super fun Godzilla movie. Of course they ultimately made the right decision, as it lead to mankind's greatest work, but it was clearly not an easy one. Asuka Fortress was also fantastic, and putting aside the simple workload of reading all 5,000+ pitches, put yourself back in 1985 and force yourself to pick just between this story, Asuka Fortress, and Kobayashi's really weird original version of Biollante, which had almost none of the stuff Omori worked into it that made it so singular and perfect, and you'd have no way of knowing what the eventual movie would become. That's crazy! I would never want that much responsibility.
Anwyas, your video edits here depicting the story are really clever and it was a lot of fun, I think you did an awesome job of bringing it to life. The fact that this seems to come from an interview though it a bit of a bummer, as I've always been dying to know what's in all those other story submissions, or at the very least just the finalists. I've been super curious about "Blood of Godzilla" for a long time in particular. I would love for this to be a whole series on the Godzilla 2 story contest entries, but of course you can't really do that without sources.
Although, you COULD do more videos in this vein dramatizing and getting the scoop on other Godzilla draft stuff. You've done it before, covering SP and Shin Ultraman at the very least. And of course I'll immediately click on anything about Bride of Godzilla (50's or 70's version, it's all awesome) or A Space Godzilla, so... y'know you wouldn't necessarily be digging up new stuff I hadn't heard before, but it would be really entertaining stuff nonetheless. And, hey, remember this is only my perspective, not everyone who watches your channel got called out by John LeMay at a panel on unmade Godzilla movies to explain stuff for them. Potentially the majority of your audience doesn't have the whole Bride of Godzilla script memorized, so...
Thanks for the kind, thoughtful response. Can't imagine what the decision process was like. Really skirted over it in the vid but it was a pretty rigorous process deciding on the finalists/winner. Definitely am right there with you with wanting to know more about the finalists. "Godzilla Vs. Biollante Perfection" included (I think) a complete rundown of 'Asuka Fortress' but I don't think any of the other entries have been published. The Japanese fanzine world might have something (Mutsuki Kagero's pitch was covered in Yuji Kaida's Tokusatsu Gakita magazine, which also has a lot of other stuff I've yet to see talked about in the West).
There is another lost Godzilla project I've been eyeing but it'd be far more challenging to figure how to depict it visually.
"Bride of Godzilla" is something XD. "A Space Godzilla" has been pretty well covered, right? I remember Kevin Derendorf doing something pretty extensive on his Maser Patrol blog.
I more curious if anybody was able to dig up or find more information on "Godzilla vs Giant Monster Varan" or "The Return of King Ghidorah" (1972). Heck maybe even some rejected scripts of the scraped movies Bagan was supposed to be in. 🗃🤔🧐🔍
Every video you make doesn't miss! My first time hearing about this, and it really does harken back to the Showa films in a weird way--but it's really interesting to see elements of this proposal of G2 manifest in a few key ways moving forward (I do not think the inclusion of a psychic protag in Biollante was a coincidence!). Absolutely loved the way the video is edited! Very exciting!
Though in my opinion, part of me wouldn't be too surprised if Kagero took influence of the Godzilla Cult from early drafts / the novelization of G'54 with the Tokyo Godzilla Society and expanding it some.
That sounds like it could’ve been an epic movie, the people yearn for Alien Invaders.
Ok so we know Godzilla 2 almost existed until Godzilla vs biollante came along but don’t forget Godzilla vs bagan that’s also supposed to be after Godzilla 1984 as well
I remember back at the first G-fest (then called G-con) Guy Tucker (kaiju historian) had said that parts of his ideas he sent in for a script were used and never credited for them.
Happy 70th anniversary Godzilla.🇯🇵🇺🇸🐲🦍👹🚀👨🚀👾☄️🌌🎥🍿
Wonderfully edited video Matt! Never knew about this idea for Godzilla 1989 and this is one of my favorite things about your channel, learning something new. I wonder what other neat ideas some of the other contestants had? I'm sure good'ol Toho put those in their pockets for future projects as well haha
GODZILLA 1984 is my favorite ‼️
This script sounds amazing a Godzilla film we need to have and get as a novel that's fully translated to read. I love it a great way to introduce King Ghidorah while keeping the space origins though while I wouldn't do aliens I would see this in theaters while keeping Godzilla as the destructive villain and it feels like the Heisei Era's other films did borrow something for other movies from this script.
This script sounds like an amazing Godzilla film I really want to see now maybe if Takashi Yamazaki gets to all clear from Toho to do a Godzilla Minus One Sequel He can turn this script into a legit movie just change a few things and we would have our sequel that could fit.
If you have the chance, Tokusatsu Gakita magazine #16 reprinted Kagero's original proposal in full.
Amazing production on this video. It’s interesting how people can have such similar ideas that eventually become reality in one for or another.
Great to see you still going strong Matt!
this was so good, I didn't even skip the ads. Now I want a cookie. NOW
Uh we don't have cookies but here's a slice of cake 🍰
@@victorhernandez5013 I will be expecting this at the next live stream 😀
What did you think of Godzilla Minus One and why? I liked the movie! I think it's one of the best Godzilla movies! There aren't really any major problems that I can think of. I saw it both in color and black and white.
I genuinely would have liked to have seen this made
This is gonna get 10s of thousands of views soon
I’m a fan of Tsuburaya’s Ultra series.🎌🇺🇸🌏🌎⭐️🌌☄️👊
I wish we could have got this movie
Crazy how good this video is.
You need more subscribers.
Thanks for being the best kaiju content creator out there Matt.
As always-stellar, quality content, Matt! Bravo, sir!
Holy. Shit. This movie would have been awesome. Amazing video!
Another fantastic video!
This was a smart business move, if you can’t think of a story for your next film, ask the audience.
Should have been done with Star Wars.
Holy, what a video! 💯💯💯👍
Was he ever thanked for his contribution by TOHO?
No idea. There's no actual proof they even actively took from his proposal (though that doesn't make the coincidences any less interesting, imo)
Interesting how a lot of these plot details would wind up in subsequent heisei films
Godzilla 1984 and King Kong 1976 had many problems in their filming
Hey this is a really nicely made video and all, but was that ai art you used for the Godzilla temple? I strongly suggest you don't use ai for future videos as that hurts a lot of people including your Channel.
Keep up the good work, but please learn from this as well.
I'd like you write me your concerns over at toku.monstrosities@gmail.com as I think it's an important discussion to have.
👍👍
Happy 70th Anniversary Godzilla!🎌🇺🇸🦖🔥🌃💥🌏🌎🎥🎬🍿🎞️
This was really interesting, I honesty had no idea about this. Granted I already knew about the contest Toho had back in the 80s but I didn't think anybody would actually find one of submissions. By any chance Matt has you or anyone else found some of the other submissions (maybe even from one of the 14 finalists), or is Mutsuki Kagero the only one anybody has found so far? 📝🗳🤔🤷🎥🎞
(10:33) This part when Godzilla gets help from Keiko really reminded me of the end of "Final Wars" when Ozaki did a similar thing. Also I always thought the idea of a monster worshipping cult would be interesting to see in a future movie. I even have my own idea for a Godzilla movie and how that would play out. 👺💎🦖🌟🚀
Was talking about this in another reply, but there's at least a handful that have been published officially that I'm aware of. "Godzilla Vs Asuka Fortress" is in the "Godzilla vs Biollante Perfection" book and I believe John LeMay translated it for his Lost Films book. Haven't honestly gone looking for others but there may be a good chance they're out there.
@@MONSTROSITIES.Tokusatsu Okay I wasn't sure. And all this time I thought Toho locked away all the submissions in a vault somewhere, that or they throw all of it away like "the contest is over we don't need these anymore" lol. But im glad they didn't and I hope we get to find out what those other submissions stories are (and if we're lucky maybe Toho will go back and read some of them for inspiration for the next movie they will make in the future). 📜🤔😅🚮
Also I know this a bit of a stretch but im wondering if by some chance any one of those submissions had Maguma in part their movie pitches. Because that is sure as hell something I would have done lol. 📝📬🎥😏😄🦭🤝🦖
Finally, I got around to watching this video. Your editing work has always been top notched, and this video is no exception. Although as an artist, I think the video could’ve done without the use of the "ai" images considering all the ethical concerns surrounding it and that it always comes across as soulless. Ultimately, I think it hinders the quality of the video a bit. I can't wait for your next video, but I do hope you reconsider the use of "ai" in your videos.
Incredible video from top to bottom, dude! I'm happy with the route they ultimately went with in regard to a direct follow-up to '84 (I don't even wanna imagine a Biollante-less world), but I can definitely see this proposed movie being a big fan favorite had it been produced. And it's interesting to see some of its ideas fully realized in subsequent movies. Ended up having to watch this video twice - once to actually listen to everything and take it all in, and another to just appreciate the editing and overall presentation. To highlight one thing in particular: the B-roll you filmed looks superb and ties everything together so damn well. You just keep one-upping yourself, man!
Means an AWFUL lot, Alex, thank you
The main macho man Matt is back
Absolutely incredible work Matt!! Keep it up!!! 🤘🤘
YEA BOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
Mate, this is primo stuff! Nice surprise for my day off!
Seriously, great research and well documented. It's so interesting to see how certain concepts found their way into later movies.
Would love to see more on the other potential stories from this contest if the info is out there.
Thank you, man!
Always a treat to see Monstrosities pop up in my sub box! Educational and fun as always sir!
That’s insane.
Absolutely fantastic! Loved how this came out!
Thank you, sir!
OK, I did sub to this channel. I thought I was stealthy subbed without my consent for a moment xD
You got to give the man credit this screen play not as bad as he thought it was, plus not gonna lie the screen play for godzilla vs biollante is not something to write home about cool kaiju but it kind of felt like it was all over the place even with the sub plot of the terrorist group.
Using KOTM music?
is this an actual scrapped sequel to the return of godzilla?
Did you use ai for some of these visuals?
Yes.
I saw one of the manga proposals of Kamen Rider.
Sooooo what happened wuth kamen rider gaia part 2?
🤷♂
This would have been a great film! Shame.
What happened to the documentaries you were making? They were incredible
Between the full-time gig and freelance work, things have been busy within the past year. Love doing this stuff and am still working on projects when I can (including Kamen Rider Gaia) but most of my focus has been elsewhere. It also isn't encouraging when TH-cam and fandom consistently suck the fun out of this stuff. Thanks for the kind words, btw.

Creative use of AI. This was another wonderfully edited piece of work.
