So many wonderful entertainers of the 20th Century have passed. Hearing Debbie sing and looking at the photos that capture her beauty make me miss the era so much.
Love this one, but for me it is her singing of " Tammy" that gets me. She was my first crush I was all of seven about the same age as Carrie. My mother and father knowing this drove me to the set of the "River" segment of this film and we got there just as the cast were wrapping up filming and getting off the boats. Still have a few old B&W stills taking that day.
Beautiful song I love Debbie Reynolds. There’s a nice tribute to Carrie Fisher on TH-cam and they close with this song. It’s so beautiful and very touching, to hear her mother‘s voice over her final time on earth.
hate to say it but "they" don't make women, fathers do. if there are no longer women like this, it's because you didnt make any. Thank boomer style parenting and the lack of respect for religion.
"Greensleeves" melody was chosen because it is in the public domain. This is a beautiful adaptation. Debbie does the song justice - she was a better singer than she was given credit for.
Come, come, there's a wondrous land For the hopeful heart and the willing hand Come, come, there's a wondrous land Where I'll build you a home in the meadow
@@shawnmichaelduncan5951 Broken dream on Debbie Reynold, it turned out that she had a homosexual relationship with Agnes Morehead? Do you think in the USA that this is true?
I think the speed is a bit fast on this version? there are other posts on YT that are much slower & you can really hear the incredible clarity and control of her Voice on those
This is a 16th century song “Greensleeves”. Also a Christmas song “What Child is This” and also “Home in the Meadow” sung by Debbie Reynolds from the American western film “ How the West Was Won” so yes, it’s a cover for sure. I’d love to hear them cover the instrumental “Nitro” by Dick Dale…. Look that one up.
It's hard to imagine what would be the best 100-year (active) life-span to live in history, but the period from say 1820 to 1920 would be a contender, to bear witness to the triumphs and tragedies of the Civil War and Manifest Destiny.
I'm going to to watch this Masterpiece with my future Girlfriend and make love to her as much as I can! That's what I call all the happiness under the sky! ❤️
In fact...Debbie Reynolds is the head character in these gigantic Western, she had the most screen time, second ist George Peppard and third is Carroll Baker. Not the BIIG Stars like Wane or Stewart with such small roles. But in my opinion, Carroll Baker is more beautyful...
What a grand, grand spectacle when movies were movies.
Yup

This song always pull at heart of what can be, and what could have been.
A beautiful song for a better life or another life and another dream
A true anthem of the American spirit. I hear this and I want to do something. Something great.
What an absolutely gorgeous woman:)) When she sings that song, I get a lump...in my throat.

Please share more info on this video; I'd love to see/hear it but didn't find it easily with my basic search attempt. Thank you.
@@plsspayorneuter If you haven't found it yet, it's called "The Very Best of Carrie Fisher (aka The 40 Year Roast of Mark Hamill & Harrison Ford)"
Such a great movie. Such great actors and directors. Such great music. Awesome.
One you could not make today.
She was one of the most beautiful and talented women in Hollywood.
Man what an beautiful voice. This song always makes me sad for some reason.
Agreed
Watch Charlotte's Web
Beautiful song it touches the human longing. Just like Debbie Beautiful. and Daughter Carrie Beautiful. Rest in Peace. Beautiful Ladies.
I think the lyrics in this version are definitely better than the original.
Hate to say it, but they don’t make women like this no more.
Beautiful, voice like an angel, and a sparkle in her eye !!!

Just beautiful and it brings back so many memories
An iconic moment of a great film. Debbie was a class act. Losing her family down the rapids was hard to watch in this movie.
So so beautiful wat a voice absolutely beautiful

I saw this movie the other day. And wow this SONG IS SO POWERFUL. I'm not American, but this song should actually be the American national anthem.
The tune is '*Greensleeves*
DEBBIE REYNOLDS L'ANGE 💖
Immortal angel voice...
Man the song always digs my patriotic heat. We do live in a wonderous land.
Come, come, there's a wondrous land
For the hopeful heart and the willing hand
Come, come, there's a wondrous land
Where I'll build you a home in the meadow
Away, Away
Come away with me
Where the grass grows wild, where the winds blow free
Away, Away
Come away with me
And I'll build you a home in the meadow
Come, Come
There's a wondrous land
For the hopeful heart, for the willing hand
Come, Come
There's a wondrous land
Where I'll build you a home in the meadow
The stars, the stars
Oh how bright they'll shine
On a world that the Lord must have helped design
The stars, the stars
Oh how bright they'll shine
On that home we will build in the meadow
Come, Come
There's a wondrous land
For the hopeful heart, for the willing hand
Come. Come
There's a wondrous land
Where I'll build you a home in the meadow

My father used to sing this to me as a lullaby when I was little. I’m 42 now and he passed way in 2020. Damn, this song makes me miss him.

Robert Todd Lincoln lived from 1843-1926. So he lived from the age of horse-drawn wagons to the age of airplanes and jazz music.

All their hard work and devotion was amazing. But it was all for nothing.
Beautiful song, is it american or english?
american
@@jamesmyszka4930 I heard this song is from the 1600s atributed to a king from England, but in America the words were changed.
@@aghnifrid Although I hadn't heard this, it's entirely possible. Many American standards are just variations of older tunes. 🎶🎶🎶
@@aghnifrid It was originally a 1500's folk song called Greensleeves.
British composed tudor times the tune is lovely

Reynold's character is the only one to survive until the end of the movie.
I can imagine Frankie Laine doing this song: has he?
