    I have read through a lot of the previous comments and they all commend you for the work you put into this. Its all been said before but I just want to say that this is inspirational. I am currently in Italy near to Rimini and touring around on a friends MTB. I am having a great time but riding this bike would be the icing on the cake ! Keep up the good work !

    I like the idea of Neo-Retro (or Restomod), and I do it a lot on my bike projects. There are plenty of good and capable classic steel frames that wait to be resurrected. In terms of performance and handling the Neo-Retro is almost always better than original and provides the rider with a modern bike, but classic looks.
    Wished I had the patience and skills to do the little details like you do them - all the kudos for you!

    I totally understand why you would do this, but for me the Dow tube shifters just look so good and I can’t stand the look of the bare mounts on the frame. Still, this is a great build, kudos to you!

    I give you a great deal of credit for the work and all the care you took. I have to say it-- you put so much effort to restore a beautiful iconic Italian frame and then you installed a Japanese 105 group? That makes my stomach hurt. What would Irio say?

    Very nice build. Here in the States it’s commonly known as a Retro-Modern build. I personally am not a fan of such builds but realize you get the best of both worlds. Practical real-life shifting and braking with frame aesthetics of the past. Life is full of trade offs and such a build is one of them. What I enjoy most of your channel and content is when your experience, intersects with ur patience, you turn out some art. The medium just happens to be bicycles.

    • @BuffsVintageBikes

    Love the bike! The paint, and how you blended in the splatter effect is brilliant, as is your seat tube etching. I am 72, and ride two “neo-retro bikes, a 1985 Bridgestone 600, and an early 90’s custom frame, beautifuly brazed, unknown maker. Both with mixture of 105 and Ultegra, Mavic rims and 105 hubs. Glad I don’t have to feel guilty about needing big cassettes and brake lever shifting. Steel is real!

      @@BuffsVintageBikes Outstanding. I just got my "needs" to start digging into the rust on the chainstays and the rest of the bike. The paint looks solid. The Cinelli aluminum cockpit looks like an easy clean-up.
      It's all going to need a lot of elbow grease (and real grease) to see where she's at mechanically plus new cables, tires, tubes, brake shoes, a new chain & bar tape and she should be right as rain after that.
      The current Mavic MA40's are in really nice shape with Dura-Ace hubs.
      I still can't believed how I scored this one. I think it'd be about R4123.51 in your neck of the woods (aka $300 here in the states).
      When I post the videos on the process, I'll make sure to come back here and let you know. 👍

  • @NightOwwl728
    @NightOwwl728 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did you have to spread out and cold-set the space between the chainstays to accommodate the new cassette? I have a Colnago Super frame from the '80s that I want upgrade to a modern groupset but the spacing between the chainstays is too narrow. I took it to a LBS and they couldn't guarantee that the frame wouldn't crack because the owner/mechanic said that it looked like the stays (or the join points or something of that nature, don't remember exactly as it was a while ago) might be made out of hardened steel, which might crack if bent too far.

    • @BuffsVintageBikes
      @BuffsVintageBikes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This particular frame had already been stretched to 130mm by the previous owner but yes, you’ll need to do that to accommodate the 10 or 11 speed. It’s not normally an issue to cold set any vintage steel stays as it only needs to move 2mm wider either side and then realign the dropouts. Check out RJ the Bike Guy’s channel, he has a great video on how to do this 👍🏼

    Fantastic build. What did you use to etch the seatpost?

      Thanks, it’s an etching technique that I’ve managed to perfect for bike parts. You’ll find a video of it on my channel 👍🏼

    You can paint-splatter the fork too. I think it would look good if you masked of or in a logo doing it. (preferably yours)

      That’s not a bad idea, I might just consider that, thanks 👍🏼

    If you have Dura Ace and 600 components, what you have is about as good as you can get. Leave them alone. A freewheel with larger cogs will help you climb hills. Super Champion rims are good enough and look better. You would do better to get new paint that was candy apple or just Imron epoxy in your favorite color. You could get some gold paint that looks like real gold to outline the lugs. If that isn't fancy enough how about new handlebars with leather tape?

    I just think the old chrome fork looks better,at least

      Unfortunately it wasn’t the original fork and it wasn’t in good condition otherwise I would have kept it on the bike 👍🏼

    I don't know why but this is the third time I've tried to post this (possibly because I'm linking to another site and it's being rejected as spam).
    Anyway, here goes again! Have you seen this European website (called velosalon . com - I've not posted a link this time!)? It's stuffed full of retro frames, components and wheels, etc and well worth wasting an hour or so on :-)
    Also, I wish manufacturers would make retro looking but modern functioning parts which would suit "resto-mods" so much better.

      I haven’t yet but I’ll go check it out, thanks. Tektro make a few retro looking parts that are pretty decent, especially their RL340 brake levers 👍🏼
