    Network radio is getting bigger. Nice looking handheld.

    Zello is a winner especially with a PTT device. Purchased a F22 just over 2 years ago and is in daily use (also have a TH580 and T199)
    As for the ‘it’s not radio’ quibble. Correct, it’s not radio (in the traditional manner) - get over yourselves!!!

    just got my first radiotone rt4, and i transfered my virgin mobile sim card in to the card slot, from my other phone, and found it could not work the cellular data,. phone calls were okay, but it would not register on the network, so i swopped over to an 02 sim card, from my other phone ,bang success, hooray it now works on everything , and great reception too.

    Interesting for me is why most of the radios have similar look to F22?
    Do You think they all came from all factory and just different brand order different hardware configuration and logo?
    The good information for all users would be that You don't need 4G for voice communication via Zello, You won't get any improvement of audio between 3G and 4G. That might be good only if Your only cell tower 4G is in range but if not that is in my opinion not need spending money (except You use it as wifi hotspot).
    I have other question, have You tried put Your hands on: Talkpod N58 ?
    I'm thinking about it, but i'm lacking of any information is it good for daily use as a regular phone?
    For me it's too expensive to buy just like that and throw away if won't be a good fit.
    This Talkpod N58 looks like the only "network radio" that have proper built in quality in form of waterproof and metal chassis (design very similar to two way radio) or i missed something and could You share something else (network radio also serving as phone) for outdoor use?
    Regards and keep up doing great job!
    I very enjoy Your videos

    Lets put it in to perspective, those who use a hotspot are transmitting only a few feet or maybe like me 25feet to my node, I have a T320 and its transmitting up to 6 miles to my nearest tower. that is more radio than tx to a node in the house.

    Hi Lewis Just ordered two of these radios have just a couple of questions m8. Does it come with the Zello app Pre loaded?
    What other apps work with the radio? Does Netfix & youtube also work on the radio? Is the Vox on the radio? how long does the battery last. Thanks for any info on the radio

      @RingwayManchester  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi John no it doesn't come with Zello, you'll have to download it from the play store. Most other apps work but they can be a bit slow, youtube will work but it's not the best quality. The device doesnt have VOX but Zello does. The battery will last a good day or so.,

    A couple of questions if I may.
    Would you describe the build quality as on a par with say a HD1 or the MD380? - ie, tough and would take some drops?
    Also, if I get a data only sim for this, run Zello (I already have a zello acc) would it pull in my existing contacts and channels I've either subscribed to or set up? And, would it be able to pull in my phonebook contacts from my gmail account?
    Advice appreciated - thanks.

    • @RingwayManchester
      @RingwayManchester  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd compare the build to the HD1 more than the MD380. It seems tough enough.
      You could use your existing zello account yes, as for phonebook contacts from gmail, I'm not sure to be honest.

    Good stuff, network radios weren't that prevalent just 2 years ago when I first got interested in hand held radio & even if they were available was very expensive with outdated android OS. I was wondering when a 4G LTE capable one would appear now here it is, hybrid devices are more popular & will appeal more to new & younger users.

    Hi Lewis, is the antenna actually soldered to the board and connected up or is it just a dummy, does it make a difference to the signal metre if you remove?. on my t320 if you remove the signal drops so know it is not just a dummy antenna.

    I liked the look of this when I watched the video last night, and investigating today shows a DMR capable version (+LTE,4G,3G network etc.) the 8S. But like others on here, I can't find prices or sellers. If they can get them out to retail at a sensible price (and perhaps also make a car-friendly mobile version that does dual band analogue and DMR tier 2!) I would certainly be interested.

    • @mattykins86
      @mattykins86 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its a client application for a chat server called mumble (www.mumble.com/) its the same type of thing as teamspeak except its open source, I think you might have to run your own server though which might make it hard to test. I just tried it on a radio-tone rt3 but it stops transmitting after 10 seconds or so even when the PTT is still held. Teamspeak seems to work though so I might just use that.

    Hi Lewis, You refer to the radio being rugged, several time during the video. On what do you base this claim. The Motorola radio I'm issued at work is rugged. I've dropped it several times it still works perfectly. Whilst this unit is probably more robust than the average mobile phone is it really rugged?
    I assume the manufacturer has sent this unit to you FOC and doesn't expect you to return it. Would you care to back up your claim by doing a drop test on it?

    • @Shack-time
      @Shack-time 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Neil Fulcher I think it’s reasonable that Lewis’s judgment that the device is rugged stands. This is his review and his thoughts on the device. I don’t think it’s necessary to drop the radio or to try to damage the radio just to make a point.

    • @RingwayManchester
      @RingwayManchester  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Neil,
      Rugged: Strongly made and capable of withstanding rough handling. Strong and not delicate.
      I stand by that, it’s made of solid injection moulded plastic with no bits that are likely to break off if handled roughly.
      My reviews are my own judgement on the item. I say it’s rugged, I stand by that.
      I don’t see any practical merit in dropping the radio which is likely to scratch or dirty the case, as would be the case if I dropped my Motorola DP4600.
      So no, I wouldn’t care to back up my claim by dropping it. That doesn’t mean I don’t stand by my claim.
      I have a couple of Motorola sets that are rugged, I’d say they’d withstand being dropped from my house roof. I won’t be testing that though.

    • @neilfulcher9298
      @neilfulcher9298 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry I didn't mean to suggest you won't standby your claim. Maybe the question I should have asked was do you think it would be suitable for use professionally by say a police officer, firefighter, or security guard?
      Where I work we use a set of radios (Motorola's) on a UK simple licence. Network radios running on the buildings wifi network would give clearer communication and would solve the problem "dead spots". However the units would need to withstand the day to day use (and abuse) that the "ordinary users" would give them. That's why I ask.

    Hello Lewis, I have a 7S+ and find it great, I can't work out what the stubby antenna is used for though, it doesn't seem to make any difference to the signal strength when I remove it.
    I've tried 4G, 3G, 2G, WiFi and GPS, using signal measuring Apps, and nothing changes when I remove the antenna.
    I would be interested to hear if yours is the same.

    • @RingwayManchester
      @RingwayManchester  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Jon, I've had the same thing with all my network radios, and some other cheap chinese cell phones. I have 2 theories.
      The external antenna is just a dummy and not connected and there's an antenna fixed to the PCB inside.
      or
      Because of the high frequency and strength of the cellular networks in the UK it doesn't make any difference removing the antenna..

    • @ElectronicNoobBlog
      @ElectronicNoobBlog 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here is answer for antenna question ->
      th-cam.com/video/gjhR9scZ8_w/w-d-xo.html
      On mine, it was dummy... later on video i break whole phone so You can see it's not connected to anything.
      I think that antenna might be use for US market where they use CDMA and it's about 450Mhz and they just add dummy to get a consistent look.

    • @ANYTHING-AND-EVERYTHING.
      @ANYTHING-AND-EVERYTHING. 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      On my indigo T320 it does make a difference if you remove the antenna, you can have full signal and when you remove the antenna the signal drops of and also can lose your 4g connection and switch to 3g.

    Lewis I am still confused about how & why people would use these devices. Maybe a video looking at different ways that people use network radios might explain what role they could fill between mobile phones and analogue radios and how radio hams can take advantage of this technology. I suspect its a bit like explaining facebook - to me it seems totally pointless. Lol

      Lewis thanks for replying. I am just trying to get my head round justifying the purchase as no one in the Sale club seems to use them. I just need to see people using them first. On a side note I have just met a bunch of 6th formers who were tracking a satellite that was passing overhead this afternoon using a laptop with SDR & home made aerials that they constructed themselves. Great to see that the hobby is still attracting interest.

    Just my personal observations. The Inrico (considering they are both around the same price), is a much better unit. Feels / looks more professional, and imo the build quality is much more solid. In fact, compared side to side, the Qingoo feels like a cheap toy tbh.

I don't think it will work in the US tho.... www.banggood.com/ALPS-F40-Waterproof-GPSBDS-Android-6_0-Smart-Intercom-Mobile-Walkie-Talkie-Phone-4000mAh-Battery-p-1372260.html?rmmds=search&cur_warehouse=CN

    Mate where are you buying these devices from. The like you provide qingoo.net/ dose not allow you to buy. I looked on ebay, wish, ali express. None of these places sell these radios.

      It's an app. But it's faster than dialing or texting.
