    I think it’s great to have variety and access into communication for all.I welcome new technology and in low sunspot times it’s a bonus to be able to communicate with other hams regardless of conditions 😀 Gm4zji Chris.

    Liked the video and the phone/radio. And they are not too expensive! My Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will eventually cost me $900! And it will not do what the T320 does or the MI or the K1 from RFinder. My next cell phone will be a cell/radio combo. Thanks for the video.

    Great review. Glad that you explained that the antenna is used over the cell phone network. Since none of the newer cell phones put external jacks in their phones anymore, this would be good to use in mountainous areas. A bonus use in addition to its ham capabilities.

    The other big problem with using a 3G device versus a 4G device is Android 4 vs Android 7 (respectively). An Android 7 device will likely work with 8. But an Android 4 device... you’re likely stuck there. That can be a pretty big problem for long term usability. I’m waiting for a 4G/LTE that has UHF DMR... THAT will be what causes me to buy one... It’ll work up at my cabin

    Preaching to the converted here. I class myself as a communicator. As someone said in QSO the other day, we should ditch the name Amateur Radio and use something like Hobby Communications instead (encompassing Radio). I am not in a good place for RF, although I do some QRP CW from time to time. If I run any decent power, I cause havoc with local TV receivers. So network radio is ideal for me when I'm at home. When out and about, I have plenty of handhelds to access the local repeaters. I don't mind how I get in, as long as I'm communicating :-) Currently, I use TeamSpeak and Zello on my iPhone, but Im looking forward to trying out the T320 I have on order. Thanks for a great, positive video. 73 de G0TDJ

    Well have to say... Very informative and thanks for a very well explained video on "Network radio". To be fair never been a fan of non RF based system. However after saying that, I am now in a location where there is no decent Repeater system... and I can see the value of this system.. cheers VK2ARO

    Some of these T320s have UHF or VHF transmit capability, I was looking for a video that showed the interface for VHF this on the phone. Since it has GPS, it seems like this would be a good tool to do APRS with as well, but maybe their is not an app for that yet. It seems like you could use this like a 2 m HT, with echolink via the app and internet, and as a phone. I think that it is only 3 Watts of transmit, but that is often enough. Has anyone tried using this phone as an HT, or with APRS?

    Poc radios are the cway ahead for commercial two way coms,,,they are way cheaper than setting up a radio network for truck or bus company or utility firm,,,ideal for national coverage or a town or city it makes sence,,kenwood and icom etc are alrrady onboard with there own ranges of poc radios that are pmr/lmr grade,,,why it took so long to take off i dont know as for years we have had cellular phone networks and ptt over cellular where a slot was allocated every time you keyed up to call someone on ptt,,popular in usa but never really took off in the uk and eu...but poc is becoming popular as way cheaper than have to pay for licence,repeater site fee,s etc.

      Gary, strange that this question is not answered by anyone, not even by the manufactures. I have asked it several times with no reply. This is a very key point for it appears that many will want it located only in their house. However, after looking at many videos and reading various comments, it appears that for a fixed location cellular is not required. Except for phone calls.

    • @HamRadioConcepts
      @HamRadioConcepts  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be honest, I would prefer RF capable radio even with 3g, however everyone will disagree and say 4g on the phone with a Baofeng UV5R for RF.

    • @SimyS1
      @SimyS1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it was a 4g and vhf or uhf radio it would be almost perfect. Both cell capable and radio capable. A perfect combination. The problem is the 3g is slow....what if you want to stream music or podcasts on the T298? Can the 3g handle that.

    • @SimyS1
      @SimyS1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess I kind of see it like you....the multi radio capabilities are very attractive and it would make the radio very versitle.

    • @HamRadioConcepts
      @HamRadioConcepts  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      3g on a good signal will handle 12-16mbps, whereas 4g is up to 50mbps. For years I installed AT&T Uverse internet, and 80% of the homes I installed were 18 meg and less, running multiple devices no problem. I can stream music all day long on 3g at 6 meg, then again, most of the customers at AT&T had 6-12mbps and ran netflix and amazon prime no problems.

    • @SimyS1
      @SimyS1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the T298 is a good option then....They are pretty cheap and I can upgrade in the future if need be.
      Most of the time I would be on wifi and the other times the phone would be used for talking. Plus 3g is reliable and a workhorse still.

    Great video. I can't wait to see you do a review of the Talkpod N58. That will probably be the one I will get. Do you know if there are any USA sellers of these yet? I hate buying something from an overseas company. K5RDF

    Knock off the overuse of the word “hobby”! It’s the Amateur Radio SERVICE for goodness sake and the more we lower it toward the level of stamp/card collections, the less it will likely be taken as seriously as it really should be. After all, can anyone tune their collection of Pokemon cards to the local repeater during an emergency and help out with comms? I think not.

    Im ignorant. Im interested in getting into HAM. Why does this hobby require a license? Its AMATEUR radio. I can race cars on a closed track course at 200 mph with PROFESSIONALS without a license. The shooting hobby at gun ranges does not require a license.

      Amateur only means not getting paid for doing it. It does not means we are unskilled. And rf space is a public space. Just as highway it has regulations, and definitely not the freestyle you talk about

      When you have ham license you can use 100...1000 Watts RF-power on HF. You have to know frequencies that you are allowed to use, can legally build your own radio. (depends where you live)
