For one this is a classic song. Tracy will forever be the epitome. I just feel like Kelly walked in here on her way to lunch and said “yes I got y’all” and left. Soul is a genre that not many can acquire. She is one who has mastered it. Timeless artists x Tracy and Kelly in my opinion.

This is just another example of how amazing and timeless this record will always be. Tracy wrote a great song and she sings the hell out of it. The fact that every genre has covered this song from the Blues to Metal is a testament to this classic!

Kelly is flawless on the vocal, the Acoustic guitarist was impressive, and the rest of the band made it happen.

This was incredible but Tracy wrote and sang give me one reason with conviction and passion. Anytime Tracy sings my heart feels her pain. her raw grittiness.. etc. Tracy is a humanitarian and it shows in her music/voice, and Kelly is just a powerhouse pop singer Kelly doesn’t invoke the same feelings in me as Tracy does, and always has. That being said Kelly really can sing ANYTHING though so I’m definitely not denying that.

as a old fan of tracy chapman from the fast car days i have always wanted to hear kelly clarkson doing one of her songs and i was very happy with the results, it may not be as good as Tracys version but keep in mind just how long she has been putting out songs, i look forward to hearing kelly do more music like this in the years to come as she grows as a musician.
Such amazing vocal range and vocal skills. Still one of the best singers of our generation and still one of the most down to earth, genuine and kind performers in the industry.

EMily AdaMs Tracy Chapman continues to be awesome; performing, collaborating, giving time and money to humanitarian efforts. She's a different kind of artist than Kelly Clarkson. But, I agree that it's not necessary to diminish one in order to support the other. They're both amazing.

What's disappointing is every video showcasing her splendid voice has some comment on her weight.Why is it so easy to focus on the negative when you're bombarded by her electrify vocals, yet that still isn't enough for some. One of the best voices of our generation!

She is so much more than these ridiculous measurements and judgments the media is making about her body. It's none of our business, as viewers, how much she weighs, or how she chooses to style her hair, or even how healthy she is, because Kelly Clarkson is a singer, and that's the end of it. Her intention is to make beautiful music, and if you are too stuck on her body to see that, then maybe you should reevaluate your priorities.

Third, I'm also proud of how you tackle people's comments about your weight with such conviction in your voice, and not letting their small-minded, Hollywood-centric views on what beauty is supposed to look like affect you. Moreover, I think you're an absolutely beautiful human being, no matter what size jeans you're in or what your hairstyle is for the time being (which by the way, I'm digging your hair, girly). Fourth and finally, if you don't like Kelly Clarkson, then leave. No one asked you to stick your two cents in (while you do have the right to an opinion), other people have come here because we actually love to hear her sing. As far as people being downright disrespectful to a woman who has done nothing to you personally, why? Why do you feel the need to insult her? Every time a great cover is done, it's a CREDIT to the original artist and performer. They are the ones who made the song great to begin with. Doing a great cover is the purest and most epic means of celebrating that original work. It draws attention to and promotes the original piece and causes the music-buying, radio-listening, media-consuming public to take notice of a dusted off musical treasure whereas otherwise, it may have sat on a shelf, forgotten.
When I think about the reasons why we haven't gotten a boatload of recordings like this from the likes of Kelly Clarkson, it pains me to know that a perception exists among record labels and those holding publishing rights that such virtuosity in covering a song could ever detract from the seminal work. Quite the opposite is true. And Kelly Clarkson is the God damned anointed one who needs to bring that to light once and for god damned all.
