There is a poem (koan) about the 3 people that the characters are based on, asking each what they would do if they received a bird that did not sing Oda Nobunaga (Kuroda, the guy Mariko's father killed) says "Kill It" Toyotomi (The Taiko) says "coax it to sing" Tokugawa Ieyasu (Toronaga) says "wait"
I found it absolutely hilarious that John and Mariko met with Toranaga and were super stressed with almost existential crisis each. And Toranaga was calm as a cucumber said he can't be bothered with this got up and walked away. Lol. It's like they were his children and daddy couldn't care less.
the death of the gardener would be the plot device needed for Blackthorne to mature in the sense of responsibility and the weight of his words and actions. So Fuji (best waifu, fight me) apparently was aware of the thing between him and Mariko (Yes it was Mariko ho went and did the yobai with John on the previous episode) , and still does his best to serve. so when Buntaro came back (I was actually surprised how early he revealed he was alive, and not the fact he was alive), she asks Mariko to tell her if ever his host was in danger (subtext, if Buntaro were to lash out to john in anger if and when he finds out about the infidelity) as she is duty bound to protect the Hatamoto. that drinking contest, which is usually a form of male bonding, really wouldn't get Buntaro and Blackthorne to be closer together, as the latter got to transparent in showing her affection for Mariko; even the whole shooting thing was very telling as John shows his concern for Mariko openly in a culture where propriety takes precedence over anything, thus the beating. Next comes the whole 4D chess that's happening with Toranaga handling things in the aftermath of his son's blunder. Genius. He used it as an opportunity to teach his son an important lesson; flush out whoever manipulated his son to action; and pit Yabushige against his nephew Omi by having the uncle tell his nephew that the young guy was to take control of the artillery regiment instead of him. then near the end there's that cute part where Toranaga was SOOOOOOOO not interested to mediate on the bickering or whatever problem he sensed between Mariko and Blackthorne Then there's the whole power move of the Taiko's Heir's mother as soon as she arrived in Osaka and talking to Ishido.
Hi. I read the book. Mariko and the Lady of the house met with the courtesan assigned to the home and adorned her with Marikos perfume to enhance his pleasure.
Really interesting how “death” has somehow become an honor, and that refusing to kill someone in this world and time period is almost the same as actually killing them today. Honor, respect, and tradition mean EVERYTHING. As someone who hasn’t seen much of Asia or really any other continent for that matter, it’s actually so cool to see a population/nation of people that pledge SO FIRMLY in their beliefs. Whether their values align with yours is irrelevant, you have to give them respect.
Oh absolutely, it's fascinating to learn about and see the difference. There is no disrespect intended when disagreeing with their customs and values, I appreciate the differences. - Cam.
That is such a guy mentality😂. Figo and John's relationship is 💯 friendly only. She is still emotionally ( and probably always I eternally broken as all mothers are losing their child) recovering from the death of her newborn baby boy. 💔
What do you mean its nonsense? John is hatamoto, a high ranking official.. his words gave meaning to that dead bird, it was his orders. He was naive and too s2pid to realize that his words could bring death or life to anyone around him because of his rank.
I just personally don't agree with their strict traditions. I understand why things happened but I don't like it. Which isn't a bad thing, it means this show is doing a great job of showing the intricacies of another culture from an older time. There's an appreciation to the difference. "Nonsense" probably wasn't the right word to use in my moment of frustration. - Cam.

Fuji is precious. She's my favorite - Cam.
Its called an earthquake. Earthquakes cause mud slides, avalanches and tsunamis.

Fuji is best waifu, agreed. - Cam

FYI, you must have missed it because they showed who the spy was at the end of episode 1 while describing the 3 hearts.
Thank you! I'll have to go back and rewatch that scene to see. - Cam.

24:00 Spit my coffee man!! 🤣🤣😂😂
😂😂
Per Mariko, the gardener was already sick. He just chose to die that way.
Thanks to Cam and Demica! 🗾
You bet! Always good to see you around! Hope you're doing well. - Cam.

Good reaction. Not gangster, rather Machiavelli.

lol it’s just my fictional ship. I like Figo a lot, she’s been loyal and helpful. - Cam

Sugiyama’s coughing….You can bet someone is taking care of his health…..Very VERY good care of his health that is….
Are you trying to hint at a spoiler? Because if so, please don't. Thank you.
The drama between them is still continuing, because in the trailer of episode 6 mariko is pregnant with johns or buntaros child.
We don't like to watch the trailers, we like to be surprised for each episode. But I would assume it would continue.
Nice spoiler
daym tf u even spoiling
Anyway, the unknown is that if Mariko slept with John, we still don't know that either, but thanks for the spoiler
Why spoil it man
Can you please change your title into a non-spoiler?
😂 people of honour are crazy? Lol
Oh please 🙄
It doesn't make sense to you because your particular branch of your culture does not understand a greater good.
