Every level was richer than the one that precedes but Level one was so sweet and beautiful just the root and the third. Nice lesson, I will definitely try all of those levels.
I get a level 9 with my feet! 🤣 I think that less is more. R-3-7 is perfect and enough for harmonisation. Especially in a band play context. Even just 3-7 (target notes) with the bass playing roots. 😉
Awesome! Thanks for your videos, best explanations found ever for ambient music creation. Finally someone who can explain emotions through theory, avoiding to say “man, let it flow, I make music by feeling (only)”
Damn this was a good video. So much to learn, experiment with and practice. Crazy. Love it. If you feel like it or haven't done it yet, it'd be great if you made a wee video on your gear too, guitar pedals and preferred order etc. As always, amazing work mate!
Awesome stuff! I’ve heard and seen these chords played and talked about before. But never so elegant and simple. I actually got it this time! Thank you so much! Already signed up at your website!
I agree, Antoine, this is great! What happens when we get to level 22? Do we have all our fingers & toes on the fretboard?! (Maybe even at level 10, the way you're going!) Thanks!
Thanks for this! Been loving your channel. I’ve been playing chords like this forever, but always more guess work. Nice to see some bones to it. Cheers!
Yo great video as always! It would be really really cool if u could upload some explanatory videos for chords and chord progressions for ambient / Post-metal genre like Russian Circles , If these trees could talk, Pelican etc
Complexity, creativity, and richness does NOT equate to better. It could but with most things in life it doesn't. If any beginners are here then find time to learn some hard rock/metal and real honky tonk country music. These are genres I don't necessary like but if you get the hang of that music this 'post/math rock' is Childs play.
This is a very good lesson. The minor + major 7s and 11s. Antoine, have you heard the guitar solo by Coldplay for "Low" off of X and Y album 2005. I'm not sure what those two note intervals he is playing for the guitar solo. But it reminds me of this lesson. Do you have any thoughts on that? I really liked this song, and that time frame for Coldplay. Maybe there is dissonance going on in "Low" its catchy, different. Oh wow, mind blown up to level 7 ! Great video.
@@AntoineMichaudGuitar The solo on Low off of X&Y album it starts at 3:54 But I love the part at 4:23, its kind of U2 sounding, but seemd to employ the techniques you put out in this video. aY? See Coldplays version below on YT , I put the link
th-cam.com/video/Tyjxnb8hVp4/w-d-xo.html I thinks its slowed down so they played it fast when they recorded it Like Rain by the beatles The solo at 4:23 is interesting it sort of drips out like syrup.
Thanks my friend. Mine doesn’t sound like that. And thanks again for the chord lesson. This was such an easy to understand explanation. I learned shell chords from your course and would recommend it to everyone!!
I do like this video very much. But as a critique, you would almost never play a Major 7 chord with it's 3rd and Natural 4th at the same time as you do at 5:11, at least when playing in such a tonal context. Whether it's in the implied key or not. It's usually substituted with a #11 (raised 4th), like you did with the C chord.
I find that adding a lot of color in chord cadences takes too much away from subsequent loop layering. It brings about more interesting modulation opportunities.
Great point! You could still find a complex chord you really like and deconstruct it into several layers for your loops! It's an interesting way to work backwards from the final harmony you want.

This is great for bands with two guitarists, and a useful tool for songwriting!

Cool, thanks for signing up :-)
Best video on guitar ive seen in months! and ive seen a lot good videos. Thanks for sharing!
I've always knew about spread triads, but I never thought about doing them just as 2 note diads which you did in the first example!
remember if you want to use the out of scale stretchier versions you still can ! it adds extra emotion sometimes
Wow... It push the harmony in a amazing level, good lesson to put some atmospheric ambiance in my song 👍🏻

Never thought about using toes haha 😂 I guess there's going to be a part 2 to this lesson 😉

You always take the chords to another creative level.
Please consider taking a course on post rock!
beautiful, dude!

Great !!! 🎸🎶🎶
I will start learning chords. Can you also make a lesson on how to make interesting progressions, basically what thinking goes behind it.
Space level!!! Wow

Not sure I remember what was the solo, it's been such a long time since I heard this album! Thanks for the nice comment, Jim!

sorry for asking this dumb question but the guitar that is used for post-rock songs is electric guitar?
Yes!

I just gave up at Level 6
With a major 11 chord its best to sharp the 11 so it doesnt clash with the major 7
Amp settings please

*_Brother- do You have any other Guitars to show-off ?_*
*why*?
@@thegreatestdao *_How 'bout Antoine answer the question._*
I only have one electric guitar. I talk about why in this video: th-cam.com/video/K1StZZ2l1wY/w-d-xo.html

Make a post black metal song
First time when I picked up guitar and pressed my fingers on random strings, i might be at Level 99. who knows?
