Channel crossing with my new bike/ski? THE ONE YEAR SPECIAL!

- To celebrate one year on TH-cam I purchased a jet ski and attempted a channel crossing to ride my brand new Focus Jam MTB at the Isle of Wight Bike Park.
My support crew includes Bernard Kerr, Wyn Masters and Rob Warner as we crossed the channel with support boat @neonfilterig

There’s a thing called a trim on a jet ski, some skis have a throttle limit when the ski is trimmed right up which pushes the rear of the ski down

That Jet Ski is not even going fast enough to get up on the plane; The newer Sea Do Trixx can do manuals on the water! Should have got a wakeboard & gear for £700 and got your brother to tow U to Isle of wight! 😎
I think the engine defo needs a rebuild, they have to be rebuilt after certain number of hours of use.

Are they supposed to be run without water running through them to act as the coolant? When you run an outboard motor dry, you have to bypass the coolant intake and put the pipe in a bucket of water!

Yeah you can only do 15 seconds without water. You can hook them up to the hose but it’s a pain!

Looked like more of an impeller/wear ring issue than a engine issue? was kind of hard to tell from the vid.
3000 rpm so I’d think it’s carb or spark plug but 🤷♀️
@@owilkins23 oh right lol yea that's fuck all,couldn't really tell from the vid. Does it free rev more than that out of the water? If not its prob an electrical issue. If its been dry for a while pull the carbs down and make sure they are properly clean, make sure the needle and seats are working and the jets and bleeds are free from any gunk or buildup.There shouldn't be anything majorly wrong jetting wise, being a UK based water craft its not like its going to have been tuned for altitude. But even if someone was fucking about with it it would have still worked mostly normally you would have to assume so unless there's an electrical issue a good carb clean and some plugs should get it running at least normally enough that you can do some plug chops and get it tuned properly.
This sounds familiar to me casting my mind back to the mid nineties when I used to race these. The 2 Stoke oil pump is failing or the previous owner forgot to add 2 stroke into the oil reservoir. The engine ran either very lean or with no 2 stroke oil at all for a short period which in turned over heated the pistons. The piston rings then seized inside the piston slots and you have lost 80% of your compression. You need to remove the barrels and check this. This happened a few times with mine and others when we used to do the final tune of the engine after fully modifing them and had the fuel and oil as a pemix. The lower the oil to fuel ratio the faster they went, but of coarse there is a cut off point. When these skis were fully modded, they would do sixty mph no problem and handle really well at high speed. If you get it up and running and spend a few quid on it, you should be able to loose Rob in a cloud of spray!
12:36 Something is holding this back. No jet ski is that slow, even rentals with throttled carbs are faster than that. If you are mechanically inclined, you probably want to give this engine the once over anyway.

I am not pointing a finger or so, but have you actually checked the throttle? I looked up the model and there was no model below 40hp and I would conclude that either your throttle is not where it should be or, the impeller is completly toast.

NEVER start a jetski out of the water!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can kill it really fast by running it dry..
If you attach a hose to the ski then you can run it for quite some time without worrying about it overheating. This is how you get the salt water out of the ski

Sam Pilgrim's yard is going to be a mess. The track between the jumps is like 18 inches (at least, probably more) lower than the rest of the yard and it appears to be down to clay (which doesn't absorb water the way soil does). All the water is just going to sit there. Plus there is more surface area for the rain in the form of those ramps. He basically created an in-ground pool.
You and your buddies cannot just rent some earth moving equipment and start making serious changes to the ground. It's going to be a breeding ground for mosquitoes as well.
It turns out you can buy diggers and make puddles and breed mosquitos and the world just keeps on spinning brother! I’m sure pilgs will work out how to sort a drainage ditch 😂
