In hindsight it makes a lot of sense with the whole drag-queen adjacent loud/bandkid humor, over-the-top designs, and singing, but it's weird how less funny both shows are compared to his skits. I think the humor translates poorly into animation, since the limits of real life (such as the taboo of doing over-the-top things in public) create for a much better environment for comedy. Just imagine the concept for hazbin hotel IRL: Insane hotel of crazy people trying to be fixed for real life. Would be funnier I think.

So probably why Brandon Rogers got less and less involved in the writing and humor considering… Well, look at what happened once Viv decided to write her own show. Not to insult her or anything bc she’s probably one of the most talented artists I can think of, but her writing’s quite poor and tends to often contradict itself or rush ahead without putting in the ball work to actually earn things.

All my grand parents are dead, half my aunts are dead and most of my uncles are dead. 3 of my cousins are dead aswell. You can make dead dad jokes to me BUT it has to be in the right scenario and time. Like if im at my dads grave dont come up to me and make a joke but if were playing basketball and i airball a three if someone said "what didnt you have a dad to teach you how to shoot?" That would make me cry from laughing. Everyone is differnt so start light and slowly work your way there. Ive became best friends with a guy simply because of the joke he made about my dad being dead when thats the only thing he knew about me. Edit: any dead grandparent uncle aunt or cousins jokes are also funny. They dont hurt as much when they are in bad taste but its cool.

I've watched both Helluva boss and Hazbin hotel, and I'd say they're mid. They have their flaws, and the fanbases attached can be pretty sensitive and finicky. Either way, Brandon Rogers is a phenomenal voice actor in both projects.
