The reason you couldn't save kimball was because of a bug. The same thing happens when wearing legion armor. Disguises essentially set your faction rep while wearing them.
I learned that the hard way once when the best armor I had was Centurion armor and I put it on when the assassins showed up to fight them, and then failed the mission and was murdered by my fellow NCR members as the assassins succeed in killing Kimball.
I don't think it's a bug, just a quirk of how faction armor works. Resets your rep to neutral when disguised regardless if you actually have a good or bad standing with them. Useful for getting a desired dialogue out of Ulysses in Lonesome Road even if you're idolized by multiple factions

I don’t know how the bug works for everyone, but I’ve always had the issue if I didn’t directly remove the faction armor, close the pipboy, then equip another faction, the flags get stuck. For example, if I’m wearing legion armor and equip a tuxedo without removing the legion armor, it’d often get the faction flags stuck as if I was wearing legion armor. Only way I know to fix is to re-equip then unequip. Thankfully you’ll also get the corner notification telling you you’re in disguise, at least every time I noticed I had glitched it
I'm pretty sure I saw a vid like this. The toy knife can only be repaired by a vendor, and it breaks after few hits. You can't beat Point Lookout with it, due to it breaking in "kill-'em-all" sections, and it can't damage the end boss.

To be fair, the tape they use for boxing/fighting isn't just any old tape. So I doubt just anyone would have it and duct tape is too big and rigid to use for fighting. It's also not as durable as you'd think against constant kinetic force. (Yes yes, "way to ruin the joke".)
Imagine hitting someone so much that you basically just burn the cloth off your hands. That's the only way I can think of boxing tape "breaking" Idk why when I originally typed that the idea of the tape tearing didn't exist to my potato brain.

you should try the rad child perk in one of these high endurance and strength builds. It gives you health per second depending on how radiated you are, 6 health per second at critical, and 8 at the deadly radiation level. When you have a high DT it'll regenerate health faster than you lose it so it makes you pretty much invulnerable

I just tried a similar build recently. With the help of Med-X, slasher, Battlebrew, and some turbos, you could wipe out the entire quarry junction pretty easily even on very hard. And a tip for your future playthrough: you could take the rad child perk when you're going to receive a lot of damage, it will save you tons of healing supplies. Your narrative style is great, keep up the good work!
Beat it with Oliver Swanick chasing you. Not only is his trigger spot super close and he is hard to gain distance from, he can be killed by npc's. So you'll have to keep him alive but never let him speak to you...Do it, be a man.
Something I can’t get over is that the Courier took the metal hands off the power armor suit just to punch people with his bare, fleshy hands. Something about is is just really funny to me.
I can't help but feel like using a Cattle Prod in a NV run would be ironically funny if you wore a NCR MP set: "Can you beat Fallout New Vegas while commiting police brutality?"
It's worth doing Honest Hearts early in a boxing tape build. The weapon binding ritual gives you a straight +10 damage per punch, which makes you deal pretty good damage
Well technically boxing wraps are much better in real life that boxing gloves as the wraps stiffen your hands to make it a weapon while boxing gloves are made to not cut your opponent and have a padding so you can't hurt your opponent hard. Good video.
To be fair, Ranger Andy seems to be faking his injuries, too. He supposedly can't walk (or at least not properly) but he mills around his house at all hours. At least Boxcars is programmed to sit in a chair to, sort of, sell the illusion. I guess they didn't feel like programming these two NPCs to have permanently crippled leg status (which is made worse by the fact that there are NPCs that ARE programmed that way [i.e. Anders]). Addendum: The Legate totally has healing stuff too. He may not always USE them but he has 5 special healing powders on him (unless that's just part of World of Pain, in that case, never mind).

When fighting deathclaws you need to cripple a leg and/or take off any armor. Deathclaws ignore any armor and just damage the absolute crap out of it while you take max hits from them
Can you beat New Vegas with only the 22 SMG. I suggest this because the 22 pistol is actually good for a sneak build and really easy to find, the 22 SMG on the other hand isn't that good
I did a run once, only using the Love and Hate knuckles. I was role-playing wolverine/old man Logan. Most of it actually wasn't too bad... Except for the cazadors... And the giant robo scorpion in the dlc...

For anyone else doing an unarmed run: using VATS allows you to use some moves based on your skill with unarmed combat that do more damage in general, such as the uppercut and the cross. BUT if you knock the enemy down, you can also curb stomp them in VATS for insane amounts of damage - I mean, it just CRUSHES people to stomp on 'em! That's how I killed the Deathclaw superboss on my boxing run! Stomped on her three times and it was over. Landing the sweep to knock her down was the hard part.

It’s a lot, but could be fun if you run low on BIG ideas
While the repconn 3rd floor dialog is the best in the game, it's only true if you have an intelligence of 1 and just stupidly say ice cream instead lmao

There’s a toy knife in Point Lookout that does 1 damage, perhaps beating the main FO3 story with that would be a good idea?

I dont know if I'm being subjective, but I think New Vegas is the best Fallout game. Especially for replaying with different challenges

The stomp vats attack would have been useful as it does 4x damage when an enemy is knocked down which would pair well with boxing tape

The additional oxygen underwater might be from your high endurance stat. Idk if the helmet adds to it or not, but I know endurance does.
