- Easy change to the Micro-trains couplers on a Kato N scale locomotive. I use the 1015 short coupler but you can also use 1016 medium coupler. Kato couplers work good with each other but not always with other brands. so i change out the ones that do not work as well.
Thanks for this great tutorial, Mike, because I've got to replace my Kato couplers with Micro-Trains couplers as well, when I'm finally able to get around to it. I just hope the little pieces don't go flying, never to be found again. Your video will help me do it. ...Roy
Fantastic demonstration…..I have 2-Kato locomotives awaiting the exact same procedure.
Thanks 4 sharing…..🎉
A good video on changing couplers
Great video, thanks for sharing - I needed this tutorial as I’m swapping out the couplers on the Kato locomotives. Very fast and easy. - Steve

Agreed! Excellent and informative video! Pretty easy to do, but this gave me the confidence to foresee the end result.
Great video!
Your video was very helpful. Thanks for uploading.
thanks for the info. just picked up my first train set n scale. pick out pieces to make set kato locomotive 3 rolling stock a caboose. two micro train cars a bachmann and some other one. if you click them together they work but if back into to them they don't connect so iam going to switch all off them to micro train one. want to do the magnetic coupler playing thanks.
Thanks for the video. I just tried the conversion after watching another video, and ran into problems. So, I watched yours, and found out what the screws in the package are for. The C clips didn't fit around the Micro-Train couplers, I assume because they were just a little bit thicker than the Kato couplers, and the C clips wouldn't snap back into position. I guess the Kato loco in the other video wasn't quite the same as mine. So, I dumped the C clips and used the screws instead, bingo! Thanks again.
Your welcome.
Thanks for sharing this
Thank you sir!
Great vid helped out
why not put the kato plastic keeper back in no need for the screw
The micro trains coupler are thicker than the original Katos. You can almost stretch the clip to fit. Screws were easier to use.
@@mike937739 thanks for the reply
Is possible to show how to replace the Kato couples from an Amtrak AC-64 Electric Locomotive. Thanks
I don’t have that model so I have no answer for you.
Wouldn’t you rather replace all with kadee
Only the trouble makers. Most seem to work good, now and then one doesn’t want to play good.
Kadee N scale??
I use micro trains just swapped out 2 sd 40 2 the other day .much better now.
I would much prefer a kadee you got some for n
Micro trains chart says 2004 is the 1015 height ok ?
Yes, I have had to shim the back side on some to correct some droop in the coupler.
