I love 1911’s from the Kimber Custom to Ruger, to Dan Wesson, Wilson and Nighthawk - all of which I own. Hat’s off to Springfield for making the 1911 a core offering, not like Sig that has all but given up. I’m adding a stainless Garrison and TRP to my collection. Great video!
This is the best review of this pistol on TH-cam. Every detail is covered from finish to fit to practical accuracy. Thank you for making it. It has made up my mind for me to buy one of these as I used to have an A1 and it never let me down.
I own a Garrison in blued as well... not many manufacturers doing blueing anymore... more use a parkerized or dull black finish, so the blueing was one reason I love the Garrison model. I hate forward cocking serrations, and Garrison has none.... One thing the review didn't mention about the thin grips... it also has thin grip bushings, so if someone wishes to change to standard thickness grips... need to install standard bushings as well....
Standard bushings will add support to the holes on thicker grips, without which the grip holes may fracture under the stress of firing. May not, but I don’t want to risk an expensive set of grips if not necessary. Grip screw o-rings and grip bushing o-rings may be overkill to some, but they also help to better protect the grips.
I went to get the Mil-Spec model the other day. I just really like the bare bones look of Mil-Spec models. Then I saw the Garrison, what did it for me were the sights. I was able to see them more easily than the ones on the Mil-Spec. Great gun.
It's been over 7 days.... how do you like your Garrison? A friend of mine rambled of a bunch of good 1911 manufacturers, and this was his choice, too. I'm looking to purchase my first 1911 in 45 cal. And wondered if you had any problems? I ran 50 rounds through my M&P shield 45 and had numerous problems failure to get into battery.
Note: someone passed this along to me way back, and they were correct. It is hard to judge the frame to slide fit with the barrel installed. That’s because the slide stop and link push the barrel up against the slide. That takes up a lot of slop. Really need to field strip and then check the fit without the barrel barrel installed. P.S. I really love this gun. Very pretty. Pretty much has what I would want to do to one.
Finally able to put 150 rounds through the new Garrison blued version. I am new to 1911's and def different to shoot that the SW MP 9mm which is the only other semi I have. It shot accurately when I had good technique. Looking forward to putting many more rounds through it. I was using Speer Lawman 230gr. No issues feeding etc.
Totally agree, all you need and nothing superfluous for a 1911, just as the no longer in production range officer, another great value pistol. Just wish they come out with a 9mm variant.
The Garrison and the Ronin are thr best value for the money. They work, nicely fitted,. Not great, but good. I just took my Ronin in for a trigger job and bow getting thr slide Cerakoted. The Ronin is a perfect outdoor 1911 once the slide is Cerakoted and a good truck gun. It's tough, durable, and accurate. I have les baers and Ed Browns but I won't cry if I scratch the Ronin or pistol whip someone.
I don't like the look of front slide serrations, and I like the fine serrations instead of wider cut ones. To me, the Springfield Professional is the sexiest-looking 1911 out there, and this has a similar aesthetic. I really dig the look of it. The only thing it's missing is a magwell.
I’ve got small hands and I still prefer the thicker grips. The recoil is significantly more noticeable to me with the slim grips. Maybe it’s just me. But one of the reasons I stick with the 1911 is because of my small hands. I can’t reach the trigger on a Glock, Beretta, Walther etc. The 1911 with a short trigger is a perfect fit for me. And of course I love the 45 auto cartridge!
Picked one up today for $764. The build quality is impressive. I don't think I'll have to sink $300 to make it shoot well; it appears to be good as is. Looking forward to some range time.
I have alot of 1911s, bought a garrison haven't shot it yeat. My fave for shooting steel plates at our local gun club is a mil/spec springfield. It's a very accurate 1911.
I think a lot of right handed shooters assume we lefties NEED an ambi safety on a 1911. We really don’t. It’s a nice bonus when it’s there, but we’ve been adapting to things designed for right handed people our entire lives. The traditional 1911 is no different. I chose the Garrison. The lack of an ambi safety really didn’t factor into it.
It really depends on how you want the gun to "look." The features are largely the same with the exception of the sites, blued/stainless combination, etc.: th-cam.com/video/uN_8K_b3GOc/w-d-xo.html
If the loaded or garrison had a lightrail, I’d be grabbing one in a heartbeat. Seems like only the Emissary, Loaded operator and of course TRP have that option, but they’re all almost double the out the door cost of the Garrison. Garrison does seem great for just a basic yet high quality 1911.
I've looked at one of these at a gun store near me and I'm having a hard time telling a huge difference between this and a loaded model but the loaded 1911 is $150-200 more. I'm confused.
@@kyklain86 That would explain the difference In price. But honestly I like the white 3 dot and I don't worry too much about serrations there so I think the Garrison might be better for me at least. Tbh I can't speak on the Ronin just because I'm vain and don't like pistols with black frames and stainless slides but that's just personal preference. I'm sure either would be great.
Unless you want front slide cuts, ambi-safety, and full sized grips, you might be better off with the Garrison: th-cam.com/video/27sfjZP6f88/w-d-xo.html
I wish the Garrison game with a rail I want a nite stand gun and I want a 1911 but I also have to have a light and the blued with wood grips is the the one I want!🤯🔫🃏
If you get rid of a 1911 because a failure to feed before it even has a chance to break in you aren’t doing it justice never had any issues with my Springfields either have a Mil spec and the new operator
I have owned 3 springfield armory 1911s, 2 ronin 10mm's and one mil spec 45acp . I've also owned 2 Colt gold cup trophies in 45acp Beautiful guns ! Problem, very unreliable. Many failures to feed. Very disappointing. Buyer be aware, 1911s are not plug and play like modern polymer semiautomatic handguns... They aren't nearly as reliable, they need more owner involvement. They're great for true gun enthusiasts who like to tinker. If your a casual gun person who just wants a weapon for protection, I wouldn't recommend a production 1911.
I think the Ruger SR1911 is the best 1911 bang for the buck when it came out. In fact I would say the Garrison is late to the game with the sights, trigger, checkering, hammer, etc. The only thing I thinks is better is the blueing vs. SS and the lack of warnings, and billboard effect Ruger does on the pistol to make it so unattractive. I paid about 700$ for my SR1911-5" when it first came out and it has been an excellent shooter. Now I have a few others including a Dan Wesson and A Wilson Combat for comparison. Does it measure up ? No, but for the money spent and the all the upgrades Ruger added back then in 2011, it shows Springfield is just now trying to get in on the game, albeit- Late!
@@chrisf247 Please Tell me which Springfield 1911 in 2011 that had all the bells and whistles that Ruger came out with in one package. The Garrison is nice and its Blue but its still after the fact, so with all the hooplah, I just want to throw a plug in for the SR1911!
@@johnjackson7464 Did you do a thorough check of the Springfield line in 2011? Some years ago I owned a Colt series 70 Government model that was tweaked by a gunsmith friend. Springfield manufactures excellent 1911s at great price point. You can’t go wrong with a Springfield. Love that blue on the Garrison.

No, you only have to get standard length screws.

Just pick up a used two weeks ago for 699.00 and got to the range yesterday. Shot great no problems. Didn't look to have be shot at all.

Very nice review and comparison. Springfield Armory make the best 1911 for it's price point. I have several SA one of my favorites being the Loaded..
I got the Garrison in Black not sure why people call it blue. S&W still does blue, on revolvers and Colt has a few blue 1911's
It’s a Blued finish man haha

Are SA barrels the same across the Mil-Spec, Loaded, TRP, and Garrison?
I was thinking about buying one of these.
Which grade carbon steel used in garrison model?????
Just got one love it.
Is Springfield still using the mainspring housing with the ILS (internal locking system)?
I have one of the last MC Operator models made with the new style slide marks before they were discontinued and there's no locking system in it.
The Springfield garrison doesn't have the front serrations?
