First when it appears we can see stars and part of the moon through it, and after that the ship reveals itself totally. And also it's the reason why Earth's defenders weren't able to see it before. The original Enterprise also planned to destroy a moon-sized asteroid to prevent it from hitting a planet; though they weren't quite able to do it in time the fact that the plan was considered to be a reasonable course of action gives a rough idea of its power level.

It always scared me when I saw the second movie it how easily they were overwhelmed again 1 Cannon took out the entire orbital defense system I know there's such a thing is overpowered characters but after that it just gets ridiculous and unfair
In a later scene, you see those giant plasma cannons inflicting little explosions on the Area 51 base while here a single shot can destroy the entire moon base and the defense satellites.

Therefore making it as heavy as a large moon. The massive amounts of mass on it would rip apart entire portions of the crust, ripping into even the mantle. Even with this ship defeated the entire world would die as we know it, with so much magma being ripped out from the landing and the mass so steadily moving to earth, the leaving of the mothership could even cause more harm by removing the earths mass. That's what makes no sense in this scene, we know the aliens are bad, don't take a 10 second countdown, you're giving them an opening to attack first, instead of us, when we knew they was there, the battle should have started at the moon and then continued on the way to Earth with some new space jets from Earth, defending us, us losing the battle in space, but taking some of them down as well, with the Mothership taking some big hits, but still not being enough to stop it, continue to Earth, and the battle gets worse, they take revenge and hover over a important city, London, Madrid, Hong Kong or Rome, and nuke it like they did NYC, LA and Paris. That is how you do it!

@@SoldierOfFate I think the Death Star "Primary weapon" can destroy entire planets in a single shot, so it effectively is a race between "Who can shoot first". I would add though, that I think in Episode 4 (A New Hope), it is suggested the Death Star does have an energy/magnetic shield of some sort which only the fighters can penetrate with difficulty. Indeed in Episode 6, Return of the Jedi, it is shown the Death Star II is protected by an energy shield purely because it is not yet complete and still under construction. Would the second Mothership cause damage to the Death Star? I think so. But I think the Death Star would instantly kill any target - except another Death Star that happens to fire first. On the flip side, if one were in a small set of fighters/ships, that the Primary weapon cannot easily target, then it is possible to destroy the Death Star, provided one has either Force abilities, or able to gain access to the main reactor. The Empire would probably destroy several Motherships, perhaps lose one Death Star owing to an incompetent commander. So it would fight back by sending Jeff Goldblum and R2D2 in a stolen Harvester ship to upload a virus into the main computer, and destroy the enemy from within!
That's lame that they make all these new defences and then just have them instantly fail. What's even the point of putting them in to movie? They don't make the aliens seem scary, just the defences seem crap.
Plus couldn't the same virus trick work they didn't need to disable Shields but they could have caused some Havoc throughout the systems I kind of get the feeling as advanced as they are I still don't think they have antivirus software
IMHO it should of been made into a series similar to Stargate. Certain movies should only be limited to one movie. I know it's a movie but the storyline was just plain ridiculous. Battleship had a better storyline than this!
yea in most sci fis it is just not a good idea to make a ship that is over a certain size in this case same size as earths moon.... in other sci fis for examle like the death star is only 160 km. even the super star destroyers are only 19km. the death star would've blown this sucker up . one shot.

At first I thought the ship was in cloak but then I realised it was colored black so it matches the color of space.

Counter yes, but not likely destroy. The Death Star doesn't have energy shields and is a sitting duck against the Mothership's weapons.

@@SoldierOfFate I think the Death Star "Primary weapon" can destroy entire planets in a single shot, so it effectively is a race between "Who can shoot first". I would add though, that I think in Episode 4 (A New Hope), it is suggested the Death Star does have an energy/magnetic shield of some sort which only the fighters can penetrate with difficulty. Indeed in Episode 6, Return of the Jedi, it is shown the Death Star II is protected by an energy shield purely because it is not yet complete and still under construction. Would the second Mothership cause damage to the Death Star? I think so. But I think the Death Star would instantly kill any target - except another Death Star that happens to fire first. On the flip side, if one were in a small set of fighters/ships, that the Primary weapon cannot easily target, then it is possible to destroy the Death Star, provided one has either Force abilities, or able to gain access to the main reactor. The Empire would probably destroy several Motherships, perhaps lose one Death Star owing to an incompetent commander. So it would fight back by sending Jeff Goldblum and R2D2 in a stolen Harvester ship to upload a virus into the main computer, and destroy the enemy from within!

Plus couldn't the same virus trick work they didn't need to disable Shields but they could have caused some Havoc throughout the systems I kind of get the feeling as advanced as they are I still don't think they have antivirus software
IMHO it should of been made into a series similar to Stargate. Certain movies should only be limited to one movie. I know it's a movie but the storyline was just plain ridiculous. Battleship had a better storyline than this!

And weren't powerful enough. They're extremely tiny compared to the ship's shielding.

yea in most sci fis it is just not a good idea to make a ship that is over a certain size in this case same size as earths moon.... in other sci fis for examle like the death star is only 160 km.
even the super star destroyers are only 19km.
