I gotta say, this game takes multiple steps backwards from the last Endless Ocean game. No interactivity with creatures, no shore life, no aquarium mode, and it just feels like a great big slot machine and an absolute drag across the floor seeing that you have to explore 80% of a procedurally generated map to find a UML that you probably already found before.

1:48:32 Fun fact about the Hallcigenia: These creatures can't move back or side to side, they can only move forward until all his enemies are destroyed
Another "fun" fact: For a long time, paleontologists were baffled at what appeared to be a bulbous protrusion on one side of the creature's body, and there were heated debates about what this body part was actually for. Then after careful study, it turned out that the "bulb" was actually just an impression, likely left behind by the creature's body fluids during or after death, and that it had a very worm-like tubular body. It's gross, but also kind of hilarious that for over a century, paleontologists had basically done the zoological version of thinking a coffee stain was part of the blueprints.
Let's give our condolences to all the legends who could've appeared, yet don't: Ailouros Pearl Golden Catfish Mama Cortica Leo Hopefully, new updates add them. We're overdue for some returns. Plus, the UMLs are such letdowns. We could've gotten way more interesting designs than mere 10.
On top of that, some of the UMLs are more like crappy fantasy animals than something that's atleast realistic. That's another problem I have with Luminous, it leans so hard into pseudo scientific fantasy with the Veiled Sea, UMLs, Living Prehistroic Creatures, The World Corals and whatnot that it strays just a bit too far from reality, and in my opinion that's what made the first 2 Endless Oceans so great, it stays for the Large part realistic while still dabbling a bit into fantasy with its Legendary Creatures. (and even then, The Legendary Creatures are still for the Large part fairly realistic in that creatures like them could potentially exist in real life even if the chances of that are low to near zero)
I recognize some of these creatures from these shows: Tanked The Aquarium Our Planet River Monsters Monster Fish Sea Monsters (the one with Nigel Marven) Walking with Monsters Life on Our Planet
I wish they had a “filtering” option where you can sort them from None (which is Normal), A-Z, Z-A, Real fish only, Fantasy fish only or prehistoric only.
I only played 3 maps, but are they randomly generated like Minecraft? I got the same trench and Thanatos sunken ship but in different locations each save file.
Alright so I gotta ask some advice from the Endless Ocean peeps out there: For someone whose never played an Endless Ocean before and only knows a little bit of it from like, that one game grumps lets play of the first two wii games, is this a good game to get into? I know a lot of fans were dissatisfied by this entry. But as someone with no prior knowledge and experience, is this good? Because I gotta be honest, a game where I explore the ocean in bed while sleep deprived sounds fun, but not if the game itself is flawed for everyone regardless of prior history.
Do you know any tips on finding the variants for the UML creatures? When I look for help the strategy is always vastly different. I can only imagine how rare the spawn rate is
honestly, you need to just hope they show up on UML encounter 2 or 3 during online swims, but you can just roll indefinitely if you do a solo dive i believe the third roll's odds are on every roll after that! it's a little slower than online, but you WILL get the variant after enough tries
Seriously? They just slapped a crown on a seal and called it a Legendary. I mean, Fishing Master World Tour did almost the same thing with the Princess Trout, but that was just a fun fishing game that you didn't need to take too seriously... which ironically, was also released the same year as Endless Ocean: Blue World. This is Yo-Kai Watch all over again. 🐳

On top of that, most of the creatures look unfinished, graphics-wise. Some more polished textures would do wonders.
