    A few tips, try to find someone who is local or from near the area who knows people, then buddy up on finding a flat together... Also it's helpful to have at least one flatmate who is taking same/similar courses. If it's your first year, Uni halls may be the best bet... Find a larger flat, you can split food costs, buy in bulk and save some money. Lastly, you might want to try home brewing, kinda fun and for me was surprisingly good ;-) Oops, almost forgot, one of my favorite frugal tips, snarf up a barely used bread making machine, can regularly be found for 15 quid or so. It's really easy to make great breads, pizza dough, and other mixes. Mix brown/white/bread flour, add herbs, nice olive oils, veggies. Cinnamon-raisin, carrot, zucchini, ... are trivial to make and very tasty!!!

    This clip is really helpful for me, esp for cost of living calculations. I will start my phd in Veterinary Medicine program in 3rd of February, so exciting! 😊

    Interesting. I was a student in Glasgow 1970 thru 1973. The first year , I stayed in uni halls. Second and subsequent years, I shared flats. As I recall, renting a flat on my own was a complete financial impossibility. Nor did I know anyone who could afford to rent a flat on their own. One of the flats I shared was in Southpark Avenue, Kelvinbridge, about 150 metres from Glasgow University. ( I was doing engineering at Strathclyde ).
    Re: "...... the drinking culture is quite big in Glasgow....". Er, yes.

    With the cost of EVERYthing increasing at the moment unfortunately this video is already kind of out of date - accommodation is seeming impossible to find at a normal price - but some things like your data plan, food costs etc. still stand.

    This is kinda off topic but is it better to live in a larger or smaller flat in a uni hall at Glasgow?

    emmm, the real case is --a 1000pcm rent is the lowest price near school since the school sent the "no school accomodation" e-mail

    Hi there,
    Where are the areas in the UK that have clearest easy-to-follow english accent for international students ?
    Hope to hear from you soon .. thanks

      in my personal experience, Nottingham/ i grew up in Nottingham, got my undergrad in St Andrews and am currently doing my masters in Edinburgh. My sister went to Cambridge about 2 years above me, so i visited her during her time at uni. I can confidently say that (while i adore Scotland) University of Nottingham has the best accents to understand for international students. Cambridge also has very clear pronunciation, but i find it more 'sophisticated' compared to Nottingham's neutral but clear accent (which is probably easier to understand for nonnative speakers). Hope this helps!! (- from a english/burmese speaker)!

    what are good places to look for private accomodation?

    • @172Break
      @172Break 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you are in the West End of Glasgow next to the University, it is expensive. If you stay in a place in the south of the city such as Cessnock, Kinning Park or Ibrox, you will find rent is much cheaper. These places have underground stations which will get you to the west end in 10-15 minutes. The University is between Hillhead and Kelvinbridge. These two areas are the most expensive. If you want to be near it but pay less rent and still be within walking distance, head west to Partick or north to North Kelvinside or Maryhill.

    Hello! I am coming to the University of Glasgow in SEP 2022. I can not find any accommodation nearby, can anyone help me by providing me the information for the right private accommodation near the university? or contacts of those who may be willing to take me in as their flatmate?

    This is exactly what’s wrong with Glasgow. Glaswegians cannot get decent accommodation for love nor money. All these students
    piling into Communities creating this mess, sky high rents with greedy landlords and it’s the sheer volume of students that’s created this Mess. A recipe for disaster.
    Glasgow has enough student accommodation. We as Glaswegians want our City back and our right to Homes.
