I love anything that improves energy efficiency since those improvements have a lasting effect on our monthly bills while also helping reduce my environmental impact. A few improvements that have saved me money this year are going all electric with our vehicles and charging them daily using our solar panels. Our gas bill went from $400 a month to $0. We've tried to seal air leaks in our home, jumped on a variable rate electricity plan, and will pre-cool our home ahead of a short window when electricity gets more expensive, and that's saved us about $50 per month in electricity. And whenever a major appliance dies, we'll replace it with an EnergyStar efficient upgrade. Our home is slowly becoming cheaper to operate and more comfortable.

Don't skip the doctor. Go to the dermatologist, get your skin checked, it can save your life. Teeth cleanings and check-ins are important since you have them the rest of your life. Get your eyes checked, reduce strain by seeing if you need glasses. If you're only looking at it from a financial standpoint, it is much cheaper to catch something earlier than deal with a bigger problem later.
Yep. Wise honest advice from my dentist: Your teeth are one of the greatest investments of your life. 1) Not going annually will just make it more expensive when you do go. 2) Your teeth are directly connected to your brain health, which is obviously extremely important.
Teeth health is related to heart health. Wild when I learned this. Also, workout and try to eat well per your budget. Google healthy foods on a budget. There’s lower cost ways to eat healthy. Do the things that preserve your health that are free
If you are healthy, your body heals. No need for a doctor unless you have an issue. Basic math: if you eat carcinogenic foods, you have a high chance of cancer. If you eat anti-cancer foods, your chance is almost non existent.
The barter system is great. My husband is a carpenter, my babysitter had the supplies for a new roof but couldn’t afford the labour to get it done. So she watched our son for free after school for years and he did the roof. It saved us both a ton of money.
I hit a big rock and crunched my transmission pan. My car has a sealed transmission. I went on TH-cam, ordered parts and fluid, and borrowed ramps. Replaced, refilled, and that didn't work. More TH-cam, and i fixed a loose wire. Zoom, zoom! Less than $150. My regular mechanic wanted $800. I did it myself for the first time!! Oh, I'm a 63 yo woman. Everything is possible.😊
I wont skip doctor visits. My dad finally went to the doctor after 20 years of not going and within months they found out he had stage 4 terminal cancer. He just made it to retirement age and he is in hospice because he is at the end of his life. Dont skip checkups even if you think you're healthy. Women should be getting cervical cancer screenings and mammograms from their 20s. Men need to be getting colonoscopies. Dont take the chance of cutting your life short by not getting preventative screenings. If they had caught my dads cancer early he might have lived to 90. Now he's happy he got 6 years and made it to 64. Without that blood test where they found he had anemia and detection he would have passed away already. We got 4-5 more years with him because he went to the doctor (finally) but we could have had way more.
I couldn't agree more! My dad died last Tuesday, just 1 year into his retirement and it was due to not going to the dentist for years. He ended up with myocarditis, 2 ruined heart valves and kidney failure.
He is so right about the cleaners. I work retail and see people spending a small fortune on cleaners (and also on Febreze). It's insane! I work in a low-ish income area and I swear a lot of mid to low income people would be financially comfortable if they made consistent and modest changes to their buying habits. I'm not saying skimping in these areas will make you rich, but 20-30 years of just skimping on stuff like this would put you in a different financial league.
My father was a man who never went to the doctor. By the time he finally did, he was diagnosed with metastatic liver cancer. He died 3 months later at 60, never having retired after saving all those years. Don’t do that.
I love that you break your videos into different chapters. Probably takes a lot of time, but that one feature got you a new subscriber. Thank you for the great content.
I saved myself $ by replacing the alternator in my car myself and I’m not a mechanic. I also recently replaced a hose to my mom’s car windshield wipers that only cost $2. Now the water squirts out perfectly! Thanks for the great tips!
I bought a giant gallon of foam soap concentrate from Amazon. I no longer buy little bottles. I got foam dispensers from Amazon and now I take my gallon of soap and dilute it 3:2 water to make foam soap and it goes even longer!
Speaking of haircuts, buying a nice set of clippers and learning to cut your own hair can save you a ton of money. I bought a $50 set of clippers from Costco about 14 years ago and the amount of money I've saved on haircuts is pretty substantial!
I cut my hair yesterday and i was shocked at the price the barber charged me, i said I'll buy my own clippers and will never go to a barbershop again cos i cut my hair once every few years lol but my nrothers can use it coz they cut every month.
Been cutting my own hair a very long time. Started in the Army. It was dead simple there. Eventually the mirror thing went away - I know where my head is. Must be okay, since my brother recently asked where I get my hair cut.
I have to disagree with you about yearly doctor and dentist visits. Early detection is key for almost everything. It's your life, but I don't think that's good advice to share.
Been "scared" into going to the doctor and the dentist by small things myself and I'm very glad I did. Nothing bad was going on (thankfully), but having the routine and the confidence that things are at least looking good from a medical perspective is great. Also, having an oral hygienist complement your flossing is a small euphoria I always enjoy haha.
He was just saying to stay healthy. He didn’t say to avoid the doctor. He was giving his example of making good food choices and exercising which he feels has helped him not have any medical issues.
So this is the mentality of a young person and works for a 20 something year old. As you age you need routine screenings, cleanings, images etc. Medical expenses become necessary for preventive measures as you get old. Eating healthy and exercising has nothing to do with it. A visit with your primary care is free and it’s very important you go. I found that segment to be terrible advice. 8 years he hadn’t been to the doctor?!?! 5 years without getting plaque scraped off his teeth?!?
I bought a gallon jug of Dr. Bronner‘s soap. I add one tiny little cap full of that to a large spray bottle and then I put in about an eighth of a cup of rubbing alcohol. I use this to clean everything and it sanitizes it as well. I also invested my time in learning how to make colloidal, silver and colloidal copper. I use those sprays as well and for many other things.

NEVER skip having physicals with your doctor. We just lost a great friend at 65 years old. He had undiagnosed high blood pressure for years and years. He ended up in kidney failure and his body failed before he could get a transplant. If he had seen a doc on a regular basis he may be here with us today.
My one regret is that I did not become much more serious about savings when I was in my 20s or 30s. Being closer to 50 has me a little worried. Even though I do have some savings, it could have been more.
sometimes i felt, no matter how much you save, an unexpected life event will drain it away... just that it will hit you less hard (e.g. a soft landing).
Gabe your video shocked me in a good way. When you showed that calendar with the weeks remaining of your life and then talked about the freedom you can gain saving money it blew my mind. Had an aha moment. Thanks!!!
When my kids were smaller we also saved 50% butttt they’re almost adults now and eat like adults, need clothes in adult sizes etc. To have 4 adults in the household with ”only” two salaries have proven to be tough when it comes to saving money. My kids pitch in with cooking etc and we love to have them home, of course but it’s not cheap. I did check some grocery prizes and for example butter is up 50% and potatoes are up 100% compared to pre pandemic so it’s seems to me like ”inflation” but mostly greed makes a huge difference in our grocery budget each month. We do already follow almost all of your tips as well. We do grow some food at home and for next year we really need to grow more with these prizes. We’re living in Sweden 🇸🇪
Same here (Germany) - and our eldest is just turning 8, but already eats like an adult 70% of the time. When we go out to eat we start at 70€ for us 4 and that's not fun. I love making things from scratch and when I get milk from the farm and we make our own yoghurt, we can save about 50%. Also the bread maker paid itself by now, the ice maker still has another season to got. But who wants to buy ice cream at 2€ to 2€50 a scoop when you can make it yourself for a fraction of the price with real ingredients and pick the exact flavor? Clothes are still though, so we will go to a flea market for kids cloths again for the next season.
@@abm672 they have had jobs over the summer but now when school started up again they commute which means not enough time to both work and study. It’ll work out for us, it’s just difficult to save money. We have everything we need 🙏
A quick way to save - stop comparing yourself to anything. Be happy with what makes you happy. Want to eat broccoli and rice everyday? go for it. Want to have an e-bike and not a car? go for it. Want to play 40 hrs of video games as opposed to going to the latest (fill in the blank)? Go for it. In 6 months no one will even remember what they did, let alone what you did. Live your life to your standard. The endless comparing leads to hollow consumerism.
I agree with buying lower priced food products and store brand products as long as they are of quality ingredients. Many times higher priced items include better quality ingredients and the lower end are packed with things like artificial flavors/colors and sugar, sodium, high-fructose corn syrup, corn, wheat, soy, etc. If the ingredient list is the same, then I grab the savings!
So true. Sometimes you can tell the difference in the taste, I stopped buying regular chicken and only buy free range now, you can see and definitely taste the difference. I also have a couple of pasta brands that I like, but I wait for them to go on sale and then buy several packets at a time. I recently swapped from the brand name dishwasher tablets to the store brand and there was no difference in how well they cleaned the dishes, so I now buy the much cheaper version.
I always had my raise money auto-put into the Credit Union. Since I was used to living on my current wage, I didn't miss it. We like generic food from Aldis and our meat from Kroger. We retired at 60, but I worked two days a week for nine years, making 1k or slightly more a month, and invested it. You don't have to be cheap frugal will get you far.
I won’t go on without doctors because everyone already has, but I will say, even if you are healthy, it’s good to create a relationship with your doctor so when, and if you do need them in the future, you are comfortable with who you have.
I feel like we’re really just glossing over the whole “other people’s money offsets my housing costs” thing as if that’s not by far the most impactful part of his strategy
When you’re looking at your insurance, make sure you aren’t over or under insured. Insurance is there to protect you, so take the time to figure out exactly what you need and make sure you are comparing apples to apples. Some companies might offer a lower rate, but that often means less coverage. Saving a bit of money now won’t really help if you end up underinsured.
On paying the mortgage twice a month. Don’t do that!!! What you want to do is make extra PRINCIPAL PAYMENTS every month (if and when you can). Don’t make extra principal AND interest payments, just the principal. Use an amatorization schedule to tell you how much of your payment is principal and how much is interest.
Yes. This. Always make the extra payment on Principal only. Many finance company websites, where you make your payment, allow you to direct it to Principal Only. And if they don't - call customer service and tell them that you want your payment to be allocated to principal only, and they can switch it over.
Nah, man, they just underpay and over work their understaffed stores and as a result the tags you see on the floor aren't always the price the company is currently charging for something, and then you guys give the employees a hard time and force them to change it to the price listed on the floor instead of what it rings up as by pitching a fit about it. This is just you being an AH, it's not you being in on some grand grocery store conspiracy.
I bought 2 hand at Christmas at 99cent per lb. I thought…. Thankfully I was watching the register and they both rang up at over $17 each! I brought it to the cashiers attention. She then informed me I had to spend $35 not including the hams to get the price. This despite the fact that the hams were actually marked at the lower price. I had her take them off immediately. I was short $1.35. So I bought a pack of gum to get up to the $35 minimum. Then added the hams back. I’m so thankful I was watching the register!
Here’s one. When you need to buy something, look for a second hand option first. If you have 1 or 2 thrift stores you go to, look there first for an item. Housewares, clothes, tools can be purchased new or like new for a fraction of the new store item cost. Some items there are junk but some are brand new with tags attached.
Not getting a yearly check up with your PCP is extremely reckless advice. There are countless conditions that present with no symptoms that be easily identified by a simple blood test or EKG/ECG. These conditions can be found in perfectly healthy people.
“Perfectly healthy” people don’t have diseases or problems. They may look thin or normal… but truly healthy people (which there are few these days) have no diseases. Just as you can reverse cancers and diseases with lifestyle.
7:43 the savings with drinks is shocking, not just in restaurants, but at home. Not only are drinks expensive, but they're just bad for you. The sugar content in most drinks is insane. My wife and I went to just coffee, and ice water with a splash of lemon juice and it cut our drink spending down by almost $10 per day, and lowered our daily calorie intake by hundreds if calories.
I just went to my auto insurance and asked about our 4 cars. I switched some deductables and lowered some coverage and instantly saved iver $400. It was easier than working for $400. Now I am on to my cable/internet bill.
I am new to your channel Gabe. i have to say I can't wait to go in to the next one. These are helpful! Your speaking and information content is right on.
I don't know. I like working. I just don't like dealing with the crazy people. For me, it is an opportunity to do something different, and sometimes interact with people. If I wanted to just work from home, I suppose I could do it, but I could see myself becoming an extreme hermit.
Heh, I have $1115/month. Saving half would get me evicted or very skinny. But my main saving opportunity is to cook and bake everything from scratch. I know it's expensive, but buy quality clothes. One quality shirt that lasts 10 years is less expensive than 10 cheap ones that fall apart each year. Same with shoes. My shoes are over 20 years old. Buy real shoes and TAKE CARE OF THEM! If you can store it, when food is on sale, buy a stash! Yes you might have to eat boring food the rest of the month, but when you keep doing it. In time you're going to accumulate a variety of ingredients. I have a ridiculous variety of dry goods, a freezer full of food and a large dresser with home canned food. While others with the same income as me are struggling.
There was a one month period I saved $2,000 in new appliances or repair costs. I watched TH-cam videos. Yes, I'm really good at recognizing good videos (I really just need to see how it works to fix it) and I'm highly mechanically inclined.

Pay your mortgage every other week. Moetgage companies caught on and offer twice a month which is really just splitting it in half. That doesn't make an impact. 24 payments vs 26.

Yeah. These are powerful..ive been doing this for a long time. For me. I do occasional no spend months. Had one in july recently. But also... Every month i have a no spend week. Only essentials. I have some slight exceptions. But the point is the bar is set extremely high and "no" is my favorite word that week. The thing you have to watch out for is that first day afterwards... don't go blow a bunch of money. If the no spend is just causing you to bunch up your spending habits its not helping you. You may need to work on those spend habbits first.

3:30 For phone plans and such, a lot of people fall into the trap of looking for 'deals' that get very expensive after the deal period. That only works if you're happy to switch plans every year or two. Another one is paying for faster internet than you need, I live with my partner, no kids, and use quite a lot of data (movies and games) but 100mbps is still plenty comfortable for our house. If it's not, most likely you need a signal booster/repeater or better yet wired (ethernet) connection

I have the apps for all stores now and I cross check prices between them. Especially grocery stores. I also break down the cost per oz if its something I use a lot as usually buying in bulk is cheaper but not always!
I used Gas Buddy for a little while several years ago, but quickly decided it wasn't worth it. Nowadays I drive a hybrid and get 50mpg, and my car only has an 8 gallon tank anyway, so it definitely isn't worth it. Even if I save 50 cents per gallon, that's 4 dollars for an entire tank fill. I only fill my tank like every other week, I'm just going to stop at the most convenient station and not worry about the unlikely scenario where I save 4 dollars. Oh, and I specifically chose my car because it is reliable, affordable, and fuel efficient. I don't need to scrimp and save on gas costs because I already chose to save so much more money just by choosing my vehicle rationally.

My dad always told me that before buying something to think of the money as your time. For instance if I make $20/hour and wanna buy something for $20 think of it as I’m working a hour for that item. And ask if it’ll be worth it. If you wouldn’t exchange working a hour for the item then don’t get it but if you would then get it as it probably is something you’d value.
@@carsonlink5885 He is spot on. Also ensure you account for taxes. If you earn $20 but the government taxes you 50% then it really costs you 2 hours of your time! Also you can account for holiday pay too, which goes in your favour👍
My favorite is the pause. I pretty much never purchase anything immediately. Some exceptions. I add it to a list. Then i have shopping days where im allowed to buy & i have a budget. I get to choose from the items on that list which are most important ti me. And i buy those first. Its pretty common for me to remove items because i no longer want or need them. For me this serves a slightly different purpose. I hate spending money. I really really hate it. So the spend days are periods ive given myself permission to spend. And the budget is money ive "divorced" myself from. The purpose behind it is different. But the effect is the same. I still do get carried away with thinking of that cool new toy. But left to my own devices.. i don't rush out to the store to buy it like you might. Ill go to the store 500 times. Drool over it. Carry it to the cash register. Then bail and put it back cause i don't want to spend. 😂😂😂 its such a time waster.
*LOL* "Stay healthy" says the healthy young man! Some of us (as in those of us who have lived more than twice as many decades as you have) simply DON'T stay healthy. I do CrossFit. I eat a low-carbohydrate, moderate fat, high protein diet with virtually no ultra processed food. My blood work is phenomenal. I don't drink or smoke. I am in a new town but I am diligently working on volunteer opportunities to build up my social circle. YET I still need more medical care than I did decades ago. I still need hormone replacement therapy, I need and will always need daily thyroid replacement. I still need Metformin, even after losing 200 pounds and an insulin habit (I am a recovering diabetic). I CAN'T save money by being healthier (unless you produce a Time Machine so I can back up a few decades, to pre-diabetes). So, thanks, but no thanks.
Yes, a rag and water can do an amazing job!
@@susanoline5823 And baking soda and vinegar if necessary. Both are cheap and more environmentally sound.
My father was a man who never went to the doctor. By the time he finally did, he was diagnosed with metastatic liver cancer. He died 3 months later at 60, never having retired after saving all those years. Don’t do that.
Ssoooo spend it all, in case you die, and then end up surviving, with nothing?
That sounds worse.

I saved myself $ by replacing the alternator in my car myself and I’m not a mechanic. I also recently replaced a hose to my mom’s car windshield wipers that only cost $2. Now the water squirts out perfectly! Thanks for the great tips!
If you can get to the alternator it is almost as easy as changing a battery.
You go, Kat! I removed my exhaust system on the side of the road! Muffler and all. I mean it was dragging. Sounds cool now!
The hand eye mirror coordination takes a couple of tries to master 😂. Been cutting my hair for 6 years
I’m 18 months in myself. Total savings for sure. I used to go get it done every 2 to 3 weeks, now, doing it every 7 to 10 days.
I cut my hair yesterday and i was shocked at the price the barber charged me, i said I'll buy my own clippers and will never go to a barbershop again cos i cut my hair once every few years lol but my nrothers can use it coz they cut every month.
Sometimes i don't miss having hair. 😂😂😂
Esp since American healthcare doesn’t function and bankrupts ppl with serious illness/injury
I regret not going to the dentist. The cleanings help you keep on top of things. Decay can go a long way before you feel any pain.
Can you suggest some good sources to learn to make your own Colloidal, silver and copper?

I agree There will always been something but it’s better to have a soft landing then crash
Yes that is correct, but being in depth cost more. Maybe you should consider to make more money in a month?
The kids could get some kind of part time jobs?

A quick way to save - stop comparing yourself to anything. Be happy with what makes you happy. Want to eat broccoli and rice everyday? go for it. Want to have an e-bike and not a car? go for it. Want to play 40 hrs of video games as opposed to going to the latest (fill in the blank)? Go for it. In 6 months no one will even remember what they did, let alone what you did. Live your life to your standard. The endless comparing leads to hollow consumerism.

Maybe consider an annual health check up, blood and urine tests. Think of it as an investment in yourself. Whats that ultimately worth?
I'm still trying to digest the time chart comparative to your money. When you put it in those terms.........that's motivating!
I won’t go on without doctors because everyone already has, but I will say, even if you are healthy, it’s good to create a relationship with your doctor so when, and if you do need them in the future, you are comfortable with who you have.
I learned some of these later in life but it’s helping us get out of debt. Also buy gas on Wednesday or Tuesday, this is when it’s cheapest.

I got a huge tip. Grocery store chains consistently overcharge on goods. Gotta check receipts 💯

Tbh i find a Balance allways helpfull like sure dont waste mony but when going out (on a date or with youre spouse) or with friends i belive the experience to be more valuable than the money spent now no need to get a table and bottle service in vegas for a couple grand but maybe tonight you allow that glass of wine or a soda etc.
You can make your laundry soap with baking soda and washing soda and salt. Majority of laundry soap is just water.
And by this logic, what is powdered laundry detergent made of? Definitely not just baking soda and salt, brother. 😂 If you've ever made actual soap, you'd know this isn't what soap is made of.
I have the apps for all stores now and I cross check prices between them.
