I ggot mine in the fall of 2022 and I love it. Not only do use it for books, but I also use it as a Braille notebook for documents I want in braille. Not only can you read documents and other things in Braille in terminal mode, but you can use a USB connection to a computer, a USB flash drive, and an sd card to get documents of all types on the unit, even though it doesn't have a text editor.

Hey Jess, it’s Ashleigh Piccinino here. Right now, I am in an assistive technology course for my masters of special education. This video will help me a lot, as I am supposed to research new technology for one of my assignments. The hour start taking down now, as I am supposed to fill an assistive technology field experience log, so I will put the royalty reader in there for research in new technology. Thank you for the video, and I look forward to what you have to say.

I have both the slate and stylus and the Perkins Brailleer and your right, that card stock isn’t cheap. That’s why I use it sparingly and try to use other alternatives such as the braille E-reader for writing and reading braille. I can also read print but it’s gotta be 25 point or bigger.

Back in the 90s, I used to use the braille and speak. So, yes, I am familiar with cording on the unit. I am currently using a focus 40, fifth generation will display. It needs to be repaired, so that’s why I’m looking into this e-reader.

A good source for braille literacy, is hadron institute for the blind. They have both braille by sight and braille by touch workshops.

I had to contact the Utah library service for the blind to get mine. I hope i can learn something from this video.

Especially for if you want to write something down about what you’re reading. That might help you understand it better, and it might also help you keep going in the book, getting your own ideas for a story or two. then, you can switch back-and-forth from the book and what you’re writing about it. I could see that being used in class, like you’re writing about the chapter of “assistive technology: access for all students, “that you don’t really understand. You’re right about that chapter in your own words, summarizing it for a future test or something. you don’t wanna have to pull out your focus 40 blue tooth display just to write some thing that you’ll probably never use again.

Hello Jessie, my name is Dat. I really like what you say about needing a note pad to get braille literacy up affordably, I'm very sure they're watching your video and will make it batter in the future. Question for you: Do you know if this e reader works with braille music? My musical life would be much better if this works. Anyway, thanks for another great video.

0:13 your video has very good, except I wish you had described the brail cues better I have never used a keyboard like this with a T and a I know where mine to three are and I know where 456 are but I don’t understand the seven and a T few could’ve described those better. Otherwise I agree with you. I think they should put more options to use, with this reader, like taking notes in a book or other types of note writing.

After updating the Braille dissplay, you get to hear the Acapella TTS voice! What do you think about that, BGFH?

Can you answer me this question? How do I get the human war version? Do you have to be with a library that supports it? Because when I tried asking for it, they said that the national library service does not support it. But how could I get one of these?

One last comment, and please read the very first one first, go across. Is the braille display set up for you EB? Of course, this is the United English braille code that was adopted here recently in the United States. Most everything should be translated into UEB at this point, so I am wondering if this display, and the other one from APH, is in your ED format.

I don't know how to use computer Braille. All I know is cap is dot 7. I'm unable to connect to my display.

Could you could help with that through your local library? I know you can’t tell them your password and stuff, but you can at least tell them that you’re having trouble and what they would recommend.

The only real Bible I have, the New Testament from the king James version, it’s like four or five books. They’re tall, too. That’s why I got a wonder Bible, we’re both old and New Testament, and of course, no braille but audio.

Because all my library support is the zoo max version. Which I like but my first one has already malfunctioned, and the battery has been dropping so fast. I would love to get the Humanware version, but my library is not supported. What can I do?

I have this now, And you mentioned that it can be connected to a mobile phone or computer, I wonder if it can be used as a notetaker on that? Like open note pad on the phone, could you type a note using the keyboard on the brailler that way?

    • @EminayDrackoness
      @EminayDrackoness ปีที่แล้ว

The answer is yes, I am able to typoe notes into note pad when the brailler is usb connected to a laptop, I would imagine a rasberry pi could be attached for portable notetaking. -update- It does have to be configured using either NVDA or JAWS to work as a braille typer for note taking, haven't finished testing it with mobile. does support 8 cell computer braille.

Too bad that this E-Reader does not allow the user to take notes, or to use it as a small Word Processor.
A feature that I would Love to have on this Loaner E-Reader from the Library.
Humanware might be worried about missing out on a few sales, but let's not forget, I figure the Library paid money for the E-Reader's they are using today, and I doubt if Humanware would have sold that many Units if the Library had not made their purchases.
I know I'm not going to spend 2 or 3 Grand for an E-reader that gives me the ability to take some notes.
I can purchase a small Lap Top, that runs a full copy of MS Windows, and can run any Windows program. I can load a Screen Reader, and use it to do most anything I do with my Home System. But, now I have a portable Note Taker for just a few Hundred dollars or less.
Braille would be nice, but I've gotten along for a lot of years without it. And if I need to spend up to 3 Grand just to take notes in a Lecture, then it isn't going to happen. Instead, I'll take my Audio Recorder, and record the entire lecture, take it home and transcribe it, or take notes on my Home Windows based System. Think the Recorder cost me around $70.
And I do understand the cost of developing these Braille out put devices, and those same Companies need to also know there are much less expensive ways of taking notes, or obtaining an audio recording.
I'm thinking most sales are bought by some Government Rehab agency for some Student some where; I speculate few sales are to a person using their own money.
Hey, I might even purchase a full blown E-reader if I am charged $500 and the rest of the price is subsidized by the Government.
How about sending one less Tank or Airplane to Ukraine, and use that money to subsidize these E-Readers?

Sorry I’m putting all this down here, however, I saw some thing on TH-cam about the shortage of braille instructors in the United States. It’s sad, and I think more people should be teaching braille and learning at an early age, at least for the learning. also, what is the audio and braille crapped out on you? You would have nothing, they would be back at square one. I do agree that audio would be nice, but if the audio failed, and you still have braille, you would still be able to read.
