I am so so very happy Moby became successful. He went thru hell, and came out the other side. This Extreme Ways is one for the ages. They will be playing this 100 years from now.
Well...I strongly believe that the on stage violin player was present to "better represent" the playback of the original synthesizer patch that Moby recorded himself for the first "IDENTITY" film & was subsequently used again for the many updated versions he was asked to record & freshen-up for each following films. Each recording was slightly different, but that original synth (violin) patch track, he moved over to each new version. Here we see as "part of the visual production" a sole violinist "sync" to the recorded track on stage, at this concert. If his violin was, or was not, directly interfaced or microphoned up to the mixing console and amplified throughout the concert hall, we do not know. But by listening to the violin track intently here, one can make the overwhelmingly obvious distinction that the original pre-recorded violin (synth) cue, is what we are hearing in this "live" mix. Believe me, ONE SOLE VIOLIN could not possibly sound EXACTLY like that classic, iconic synth "violin" patch Moby used for all his "BOURNE" main title contributions. Indeed, it "looked good" to have the string player on the stage replicating that part, but his contribution was that of "stage presence", and not much else. Remember, in "The Wizard Of Oz" there was a certain reason Mr. Wizard had his curtain closed to his production booth & his voice vastly altered. I.E., things aren't always what they seem to be, BUT, I gotta admit, having the violin player on stage, recorded to camera & cut into the video post-production, was a SUPER KEEN IDEA, on Moby's part; "The Wizard". @@Shimauta6669 Indeed, if I read & understand you correctly, we collaborate our findings; on the studio recordings of the "Extreme..." piece, it was Moby's "Extremely" talented work as a very well seasoned & experienced musician/arranger to write and lay down that iconic "violin" intro in his personal recording suites, using his myriad of keyboard software patches...but DANG...it sure LOOKED GREAT...to have that violin player on that stage "synching" to that previously pre-recorded sampled keyboard patch. For sure. 2023 and STILL mega epic. As a 70 yr old woman who has lived through heaven & hell, fire & ice, and endured, you can believe I agree 💯% with you.
The perfect dramatic end to every Jason Bourne movie which always also ends dramatically but uplifting! :-) I always wait for this to come on before leaving the cinema.
It comforts me enormously that there are people on the planet like Moby who emanates his creative genius and compassionate consciousness toward all living creatures l-touching and inspiring us on vast, subtle levels. Thank you for being you Moby.
I just watched the Bourne Ultimatum last night for probably the 3rd time. I don't know how I missed this song at the end! I ended up watching all the credits to see who the musician was and the name of the song! Love it! Better late than never! I'm 59 and also happy to find music I like in this day and age of so much pop instead of rock! Thanks Moby! Awesome tune! ❤️
When this song came out on the PLAY album back in '99, I had never heard anything quite like it. Loved it, and still do, it's brilliant and it rocks! Back when artists wrote their own lyrics and composed their own music. Moby always write great lyrics, a lot of his other songs are very poetic. No garbage here, he's a real talent.
This song sends me to another dimension that has not been established in this world.....it is smooth powerful and makes your mind feel free...IF THERE WAS A BETTER WORD THEN 'THANK YOU 'I WOULD USE IT.......THERE IS NONE. .."THANK YOU"...

IT WAS A VIOLIN!!! Oh my God I love this! No electronic effects just a violin, made of wood! What incredible these instruments are!
It was highly an effects-processed sound, but yeah it was great.

Extreme ways are back again
Extreme places I didn't know
I broke everything new again
Everything that I'd owned
I threw it out the windows, came along
Extreme ways I know move apart The colors of my sea
Perfect color me
Extreme ways that help me
That help me out late at night
Extreme places I had gone
But never seen any light
Dirty basements, dirty noise
Dirty places coming through
Extreme worlds alone
Did you ever like it then
I would stand in line for this
There's always room in life for this
Oh baby, oh baby
Then it fell apart, it fell apart
Oh baby, oh baby
Then it fell apart, it fell apart
Extreme songs that told me
They helped me down every night
I didn't have much to say
I didn't get above the light
I closed my eyes and closed myself
And closed my world and never opened
Up to anything
That could get me along
I had to close down everything
I had to close down my mind
Too many things to cover me
Too much can make me blind
I've seen so much in so many places
So many heartaches, so many faces
So many dirty things
You couldn't even believe
I would stand in line for this
It's always good in life for this
Oh baby, oh baby
Then it fell apart, it fell apart
All day, all day
Then it fell apart, it fell apart
(Falling apart)
It's a Monday morning, it's everywhere
Oh no I can't
All day, all day
Then it fell apart, it fell apart
All day, all day
Then it fell apart, it fell apart
All day, all day
Then it fell apart, it fell apart
All day, all day
Like it always does, always does
