Thank you for sharing this Ajahn. It indeed has been a journey for me to tame the mind. Keeping the eight precepts has helped me grieve the loss of my pets in a much calmer fashion (as opposed to when I lost my father and had no training). I still struggle with my issues regarding food but fasting regularly and eating before noon has also helped me reach a point where my mind itself says it does not want any more food. Deeply grateful for the knowledge and wisdom you share regularly for folks like me to stay as close to the practice as we possibly can, while being engaged with the world. 🙏
Developing Brahmavihārās (and Jhānas) is like losing weight: you don't DO "losing weight", you apply proper diet and exercise consistently over a long period of time, and then the loss of weight is the result of that. Bhante Thaniyo would do comedy quite well (the intro...) XD

Dear sir, thank you for the great instructions. A question: is it a wrong view to assume that one can partially tame the mind and be restraint partially? Will the mind stay wild to full extent to all possible level even if one engages with even small amount of sensuality?(ie. even a small amount of sensuality will keep the mind wild to extent where one can get depressed or engage in sexual act or act in self loath, laziness, and anger comes out) Thank you as I keep trying to imply instructions in my daily life.
Theruwansaranai Bhante! Ajahn seems to say that Brahmaviharas start with seeing one's own mind as a thing/phenomena to be tamed - basically that brahmavihara practice starts with the Right View. However, you see plenty of times in the suttas (if my memory stands correct) - sages, ascetics, and even kings who leave the royal life to go forth BEFORE the Buddha/outside of the Buddha's discipline - abiding and dwelling in the brahmaviharas. In fact, it seems that the brahmaviharas are probably the most practiced meditation (at least if you consider it from the Suttas pov) of outsiders. So can brahmaviharas really not be practiced WITHOUT Right View?
Who cares about the frenzy or spasm of the mind? Do you want to become a "manager" of the mind or be free from psychological/emotional "management"? In any case, the mind spins around meaninglessly "for" or "against", for no reason. She plays that way. Take that game less seriously. Let it swirl around and look at it with disinterest.
