I really like Monsters University, but I'm pretty sure that isn't the message. The message was that your dreams aren't always achievable regardless of how much you want them, not that it's fine to drop out of university entirely. Sully was expelled for cheating in the Scare Games, whilst Mike was expelled for going into the human world, not because the world of academia 'wasn't for them'. If anything, the success of the rest of Oozma Kappa proves that an institution like Monsters University really is the best choice as it grants new opportunities to even the most unlikely of candidates. Meanwhile, had Mike swallowed his pride, he could easily have changed to something that utilised his impressive scaring knowledge like a teaching course. He could have still been involved in the scaring profession he loved so much by becoming the next Professor Knight, and he would have passed a course like that no problem. Likewise, Sully could have aced the scaring program had he swallowed his pride and put in the effort instead of constantly relying on his family name. University 'not being for them' had nothing to do with it as they had all the tools they needed to succeed at their disposal. The pair of them were just too stubborn to accept their shortcomings until it was too late. Trying to teach kids that it's fine to drop out of the most prestigious educational institution out there to become mailroom clerks would actually have been a rather stupid lesson as real mailroom clerks would find it incredibly difficult to work their way up and out of a situation like that. It only worked out for Mike and Sully because the plot of the first film needed to happen. I think that scene was supposed to be a quick, charming way of wrapping up the film by demonstrating the value of both hard work and Mike and Sully's newfound teamwork, not the underlining message of the whole thing.
@@The_SafeKeeper the whole point is that some things you can't achieve, no matter how hard you put effort into it or try hard, BUT that doesn't mean you can't achieve other dreams that are possible, that's the what the movie's message is suppose to be lmao.
lots of people hate hearing that type of message because they're so damn used to hearing "your dreams are possible if you just work hard enough!" when that's just not sometimes true, not everything is sunshine and rainbows, some things you just can't achieve but it doesn't mean you can't try other things
The ending to this one was surprisingly strong. A main Disney character cheating, with lasting conequences, and we finally get to see the monsters bust out their skills on adults.
Regardless of your opinion on the whole movie, u can’t deny the whole third act, especially the lake scene and scaring the adults, is peak Pixar quality
I adore the entire movie, but those scenes go soooo hard. I can't believe people thought this was Pixar "falling off", it works great as a prequel while also introducing a whole new message
Hot take, if Mike started scuttling around on all fours and climbing the walls with his claws like a feral little one-eyed goblin man whilst screeching like one of the demons from doom he'd be just as scary as sully is
That's what's funny about this movie. It says that Mike can't be a scared because of how he looks, yet the pink blob guy proves that it doesn't matter. The reason Mike couldn't be a scared is because he never bothered to try a different tactic, like fucking prepping a place to make it scary. He would just go around doing what everyone else was doing
I never really bought the mike not being scary thing i be creeped out if i saw him in my room in the middle of the night. Also i never understood why he was the only ozma kappa member to be considered " not scary" when if anything the rest of the team (excluding sully) look even less scary than him, there gonna say mike not scary but not the purple guy who looks like he was ripped straight out of sesame street.
The scene where Sully and Mike scare the adults is genuinely so fucking awesome. That shit had me in awe as a kid. The perfect horror movie setup, playing on the adults paranoia, all culminating in one moment of pure terror!
It’s so weird to think that Pixar made both a “you can do anything you put your mind to” movie and a “you’re not always gonna achieve what you put your mind to” movie.
Watching this movie as a teenager, I didn’t really get it. But, after going off to college, and watching it again, I can confidently say that it is one of my favorite movies I’ve ever watched. I myself originally went to school to be a singer songwriter, but then Covid hit, and I ended up taking it entire year off of school. I used that time to figure out what really made me get up in the morning. Now, I’m a local television reporter working my way up to New York City. It is perfectly fine to not be good at something. But that means that you could be greater at something else.
I'm glad everything is working out in the end for you! Good luck and best wishes! I myself am approaching my 4th year in an IT Degree and I honestly can only hope everything also works out in the end for me.

I say the last 30 minutes of this movie after they think they won the competition are some of the best sequences Pixar has made. It doesn't deserve the hate some people give it.
The most interesting analysis I saw on this movie talked about how this is representation that disabled people need because it’s all movies about them doing the impossible and it ends up erasing the struggles they have and setting unrealistic expectations that they can do anything when the hard truth is they can’t. Seeing Mike struggle and put everything he has and still not succeed but find fulfillment and in being part of that dream in a different way is very realistic and much more comforting to disabled people.
The one flaw is that I highly doubt kids would find a horned, scaly goblin with one eye not scary, if anything his ability to blend in and pop out of a crevice gives him more jumpscare potential than a lumbering brute like Sully.

I always admired this movie as Mike is seen as an allegory for someone with autism and it legit got me through some hard times. You constantly get told you’re not smart enough but people don’t realize we can solve problems from an entirely different perspective. It’s the fact that Sully gives him that chance and prove he’s the soul of the team. It’s one of those messages where things don’t always get a perfect happy ending but you can still make the best of it and actually be happy. To add onto it I adore this prequel because like no one talks about specific college days unless you ask so it works perfectly and doesn’t break the lore of the first film. In fact I think it gives more light on the world in general for the first film and expands it which is a hard thing to accomplish..

In the new series they become the bosses of Monster Inc. without a degree!
The dean is probably the most realistic person in the movie when you sit back and think about it
8:55 "2319! WE GOT A 2319!"
2:12 probably the only disney product id wear inironically. This movie was awsome
Monsters University is one of the better Pixar sequels, it’s actually very good, and I genuinely think the Scare Games are entertaining
10:58 Weird chapter name, I wouldn't have thought anyone would call this paranoid. Actually, it's pretty cool that they even have the option. I don't know if our Roku TV has that option.
15:50 it's easy just use an acorn
SHOTS FIRED
13:16 Sulley caused a damn earthquake, holy hell
Imagine if the monsters took the screams of the Moans of people 😂😂😂😂
😂 🤣 omggg
2:00 Yep, that's me, when I showed the kids the f*cked up Hisashi Ouchi radiation story videos on the Chromebook when I went to school. 😁
3:54 that was just a pavlovian response, hes conditioned himself to say September elleventh when he sees a calander, like that wasnt intentional, he said that, the immediate second that the callender appeared
The part at the beginning the movie where Mike Comes back through the door as a kid looks like me looking at my dad when he came back with milk
“Yes, yes it is.” - Phineas Flynn
16:25 you know they scare kids for some reason I think it’s because scaring adults is nuclear
9:16 "Carefully on tiptoe stealing..."
I used to look down on it, because it felt like an unnecessary prequel that doesn't continue the Monster Inc story. But after Monsters at Work become a thing, I show way more appreciation to it and how it contributed to the world-building.
Tbh this movie was waaay better than the original imo
I never realized this movie was underrated, i remember it being well liked but not as much as the original (obviously). Thought everyone knew it was up there with the pretty damn good movies for Pixar
18:26 that sweet build your self up anthem is Gospel by MarchFourth Marching Band. One of the few instances where a licensed song fits in rather than sticking out of the movie 🎶🎷🎺 .
2:45 what college should you go to? I’m at college right now and our cafe isn’t all that bad. We even got a subway like a deli if you don’t like any hot food options, there’s always pizza who doesn’t like pizza
0:32 Kor looks like drinks a Boost for breakfast and an Ensure for dessert
Fun Fact: My sister was born while the DVD menu music of this movie was playing.
Most of the movie I consider a very by-the-books tropey college movie that’s just kinda eh but damn that scene by the lake is good enough to make me rewatch the movie occasionally
I know there making a point but so unrealistic Is that they did not freak out when they see this cyclops looking thing in real life that be creepy. If I had that thing in my closet ill have phobie 14:50
The main music theme is an absolute bop.
Every time I watch this, it’s better than I remember it being
Never thought I’d see a kingdom hearts reference in this episode.
I love the message at the end with mike failing to scare someone but then still putting his knowledge and talents to use
16:11 Mike be like “stay strapped or get clapped” -George Washington probably
