    I've bought some replicas of Red, Yellow, silver and Gold in Ali Express, and none of them works in my pokemon stadium 2 cartridge. You are so lucky to make your replica work.

    Some bootleg cartridges are not recognized at all and can't be used in Pokémon Stadium 2. The game shows a grey Game Boy cartridge and says that "this Game Pak can't be used" or something like that.

    This looks like a potentially interesting series. Maybe you can look inside the Pokemon Red that you have and compare the PCB with other bootlegs. I think this would help us understand why some replicas work and others don't. I'd be interested in getting Pokemon Yellow so I can have the Surfing Pikachu, since I've already done almost everything else in Pokemon Stadium with my original Pokemon Red.

    I have a VERY old spanish red pokemon that is replica and works just like yours in my stadium 2.
    All functions except GB tower
    And for those looking for the Aliexpress REPRO, don't do that because you will be throwing your money away. These Aliexpress games do not work in stadium 1 and 2

  • @thogameskanaal
    @thogameskanaal 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    These games are battery powered. The battery makes sure the SRAM on the cart is always powered on, so your save data stays on there. Once the battery's dead, your save game and ability to save dies with it.
    The reason your Red cart still works but Crystal doesn't, is because Gold/Silvers and Crystal have a clock feature built into the cartridge that is also powered by the save battery, and since the clock is always ticking, even if the Gameboy is turned off, it'll eat up your battery even faster. The best way to ensure your data is safe is by transferring to Stadium like you did, of utilizing a third party save backup device that saves to flash storage, so when you manage to replace the SRAM battery, you could in theory restore your game to it's old state.
    A better solution would be if someone designed a mod that allows you to save directly to flash, and then use the save battery for in-game saving, as well as connecting to Stadium. But that would require some engineering that these repro bootleggers won't bother to do...

      If there's a decent market for it some could put the effort into making something like that. Maybe not your average jo shmow selling a bunch of random repros for $20 each, but a passionate fan could.

  • @yosoyalucard3619
    @yosoyalucard3619 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    The problem of the reproductions is simple, the pokemon cartridge to recognize the game of any pokemon game does it through the battery of the cartridge, if it does not recognize it it cannot access your game, exactly the same happens with the reproductions of the third generation at the time of wanting to transfer your pokemon to the fourth generation, I hope you have understood my explanation since I use a translator to be able to explain all this.
