As a native to Morgan County I grew up in Rutledge my Mama’s family has roots there & while we moved when I was just a child we never left the county just went south to Godfrey where I still live today but we had horses as did my godparents who live less than a mile from the park we were not very well off back then so every weekend my parents & godparents got off work we would all go camping & take the horses back then (1979-89) the park wasn’t super busy except for locals who visited to swim, or ride the horse trails but the summer did sometimes house campers from elsewhere and they did film Both Friday 13th p6 & Poison Ivy but not the well known Poison Ivy 1985 this movie started Michael J Fox & several locals for to play extras in it including a few of my cousins and friends! Anyway we would go camp there and ride horses we had a tiny used camper that slept me & my parents with an extra spit for my sister who was 10 yrs my senior & HATED both camping & horses so she never came but my Godfather was very stingy so they had a pop up camper which leaked badly when it rained he and my dad had to sleep in the bed of our truck pulled under the stable with the horses (thankfully back then there were no rules or people preventing it ) & my Godmother her & her 2 boys 1 of which was my age would sleep with us anyway because her oldest was nearly my sisters age he got the single while us 2 youngest had the tiny bed that was too small for anyone over 5’ to sleep but we hated that bed because 1 or the other of us always ended up with a spider bite making us both suffer from arachnophobia to this day! We are talking huge whelps that covered our entire side, or stomach or wherever they bit when we were only 2 -5 yrs old I. As my own pony but the boys had to share their horses so it took my parents 2 trips & my godparents 3 to get all the horses and campers a couple miles to the campsite & stables why we didn’t just go home when it rained was beyond me but those trips were so much fun the riduu is bf trails were amazing and I loved riding horses despite being thrown off on more than 1 occasion or horse I wasn’t afraid I would dust myself off & demand to get right back on & my parents would even take me on 8 - 12 he long rides many times I’d have to ride with 1 of my parents if the ride was too long for my pony but they still would have to let me off no matter how long we’d been in the saddle because I would ride forever if they allowed it. My Daddy’s horse was mean & a bit crazy he’d bite you if you turned your back on him & your leg if you didn’t watch him when you got in the saddle & he hated being saddled up or trailered every time daddy would have to let him have his fit he’d walk up our 1/4 mi long drive that was all up hill he’d go up it saddled on his hind legs with daddy on him after that he’d calm down & be fine he was a leopard Appaloosa named bandit & I loved when I got to ride him be despite his craziness it was his wild nature that made me an excellent rider. I also learned about their nature and connected as my dad did with the app’s attitude my ancestors were of Native American decent on my paternal grandmother & maternal grandfather’s side so the horses wee we te what we connected with because of that I believe either way I learned what I needed to about them like humans some preferred women handlers some men but all were very intuitive and could smell fear a mile away & if you are scared they will take over & do what they want because they know they can get away with it . They also can sense bad & mean people they will thus fight to keep them away which is what bandit had before daddy bought him he eventually calmed and began to trust him and me but he could tell my mama and sister feared him and would act out because of that. Also loved my godparents horses and would ride with thh go en they were huge horse lovers and still own them to this day they would allow me to come ride after my folks sold our horses and moved. It was my godmother and mine’s connection with them as well as our tender hearts for all animals that brought us close she was amazing my father and I also held a close bond due to our love of nature I was like the son he never had because I was such a tomboy but he became very protective of me as I became a teenager I wasn’t allowed to leave the farm & go in a real unsupervised date til I was 16 & even then He picked who I was allowed to date & if I wanted to date another boy I could I just would not be leaving the farm with him so yeah I dated his pick who luckily was my high school sweetheart or else I have no clue what I’d have done!! Anyway I am so sorry to drift off topic back to the equestrian center & trails they are AMAZING we went to ride there nearly every weekend we could throughout the year and sometimes during the week & we a lil quays had a blast with the trails playing in the beach area & swimming when not trail riding it was pure bliss I highly recommend it to y’all as I hear it is even better now than it was back then & as we are about to get a camper my mama & I (we lost my Daddy and Godmother a few years ago) plan on going there on our 1st trip I’ll try to update y’all when we do but til then come enjoy go out to RTL be sure to eat at the Yesterday Cafe & enjoy some ice cream or lunch from the caboose one day too. Madison is only a few miles away & offers tons of activities as well as beautiful old antebellum homes & tours of their insides just about every season check the chamber of commerce for tour dates and tickets as they sell out fast!
Headed back in April. My favorite site is... I'll never tell. Naw it's #40. Only one other site in that loop and your right next to the creek and plenty of room to set up your tree hammock and I can also launch my kayak from my campsite.
I really do love campground tours. Especially fond of state parks and Corp parks.
We try to stay at state parks in what ever state we are in. Thank you again for watching and commenting, We will be watching more of your videos.
Another video full of good information. Thanks for sharing.
Thank You
I really want to go here for spring break and just swim lol, sucks living far from the ocean but we still got a beach 😂

This is also where Friday the 13th part 6 Jason Lives was filmed.
Very cool! I didn't know that. Thanks for the information and thank you for watching.
Little Darlings 1980 was filmed there too.
This is where Fear Street Part 2: 1978 was filmed
