I only backroll the sealer coat, and pretty much only if it's new plasterboard. Existing painted surfaces, unless they are bad, no backrolling. Definately no need on finish coats as the sealer has done it's job and you have a perfect surface.

Yeah bro they have to, says in the drywall guidelines. I'm sure the plasterers want that, hides so many defects and you can make it more consistent

@@jorisw3617 My experience is mainly drywall, but when we painted plaster we didn't backroll, only sprayed. Exterior painting is a different animal.

Why backrolling. If it is nice prepared walls and ceilings and after every coat is sanded surface then we do not need back rolling . simply airless spraying looks clean and smooth, but if we back roll we see roller's lines. I tried both ways and never banckroll after airless spraying. Never.

Especially the first coat. And the last coat.Read the manufacturer specs of the drywall. How will you touch up and blend later? Bring a spray gun back in to get the same smooth texture? No.

Just curious but why would someone spray and backroll when they can just roll initially? It would seem less work with masking to just roll 2 coats. Does it leave less stipple with the spray or something?

To paint the perimeter, sometimes I just spray the perimeter and roll to minimise spray in the air

Spray gets the paint on the wall fast. Rolling evens it out and pushes it in. It is far more work and time to just roll, unless you are doing maybe just one room.

Use microfiber pads, a velcro attachment, and an extension pole. Wipe everything down a few times.
