I think that's because the guy raised by grandparents inherited a tradition of progress, if you think about it. Like, Teddy is an example of someone who absolutely loves people with all his heart, trying to see the good in everyone, and even with things he doesn't understand, being compassionate and caring. Like in the one where he is talking to his gay friend, and the twist is he just doesn't know what bottoming is, it's clear Teddy's view of traditionalism doesn't include fear or hatred of that which is different to him. Whereas self proclaimed traditionalist is absorbing from a 50s vacuum commercial view of society. He believes in unnecessary hierarchies, or bringing back the weird societal exclusions of people. He's using traditionalism to mean regressivism. I like to believe love is the true tradition that will endure. I hope it will.
