Samsung Galaxy Watch ECG test by Afib patient on Tikosyn

  • Does the electrocardiogram (ECG) feature on Samsung Galaxy Watch work for patients with atrial fibrillation? Is Tikosyn (Dofetilide) able to sustain sinus rhythm after trail riding on a mountain bike?
Afib condition implies heart valves are out of sync for these smart watches to measure heartbeat correctly. Tikosyn and similar medication slow the electrical signals to put the heart valves back in sync. This video is an unscientific check to see if mountain biking causes either the medication or the Galaxy Watch to malfunction 10 days after Tikosyn loading. (And what not to do with the watch.)

Actually the reason the watch needs to be on your wrist is because it has two metal electrodes that take a part in the EKG reading.

The ECG requires two points of contact, one on your wrist and the other on your opposite finger. You can't get an ECG reading with only one contact.

The watch is measuring electrical transmissions. I think holding the watch in your left hand with your glove on may have been interfering with electrical conduction.

Hi, so do you recommend samsung galaxy for checking afib?

Yes, I have upgraded to newer Galaxy Watch 5 Pro and loving it with reliable AFIB test. If you get one, I'd stay away from the magnetic band as it will stick to your car keys, paperclips, coins. amzn.to/3DkYwKm

Thanks for the video. My cardiologist recommended a Apple watch for afib detection.
I have a Samsung phone though and was wondering if it detects without having to do it manually like the apple watch does?
Can you answer that for me please?
I'm trying to avoid buying a new phone and watch.

Galaxy Watch requires manual ECG reading holding index finger on the sensor for 30 seconds. Fitbit Sense 2 provides continuous ECG if you pay monthly subscription. amzn.to/3S7Mf24

I know, right? This is what happens when you ride your bike for the first time in a while and your 3 brain cells quit working. ;)

@@Chris34720 Just to let you know this happens with apple as well. Sometimes you just need to clean the watch, restart and start all over again.
