      I'm not a Marlins fan, but when I woke up this morning to the ESPN update I just hoped it was all a dream. So much talent. It's sad when anyone dies like this. It's even worse when the person has been a stand up person and has helped so many young people from his home country achieve their own dreams.

      Unspoken He probably would have been great. But you never know. Doc Gooden started out tremendously but then fell due to drugs. Same with Darryl Strawberry. Some players have a few great years and then become mediocre (Hideo Nomo, perhaps).

    I am not much of a baseball fan though i have watched some of his highlights in the past.As a Cuban myself i respected him a lot just like i do with other Cuban athletes.I wasn't born in Cuba but my parents who came here in the mid 60's would tell me about the struggles people face in Cuba.My parents where huge baseball fans and my mom would tell me stories about Cuba how in Cuba the kids would have to make baseball gloves out milk cartons because they didn't have any in Cuba unless you were wealthy.I can picture Jose going through the same when he was young living in Cuba then coming here to the states living in a completing different world .I am sure he had those dreams when he was little living in Cuba and through tough times and hard work he made them true,it's to bad his life was cut..RIP my Cuban brother........

    Now Jose Fernandez was a special player with a lot of talent, but the biggest thing about him that I loved was his attitude towards the game. He loved the game and was always happy and passionate about doing what he loved. A very sad thing has happened, he was taken way too early. RIP Jose you will be greatly missed!

  • @graysontong4224
    @graysontong4224 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I wrote this for a previous tribute, but I feel it's necessary to post this so others can see.
    Words cannot describe how distraught the entire baseball community is over the loss of one of the best and brightest pitchers in the MLB. Jose was a leader on and off the field; its a tragic loss for baseball. He will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to Jose's family, especially his grandmother who was one of his biggest inspirations. Just a devastating loss for the sports world. We lost more than just a pitcher. We lost an incredible role model, a tenderhearted giant, and a friend who just so happened to be a pretty darn good ballplayer. Again, thoughts and prayers go out to the family and the Marlins organization. Rest in piece Jose Fernandez; you may be gone, but your impact on the lives of everyone you encountered will never be forgotten.

  • @Y2JWannabe93
    @Y2JWannabe93 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I still can't wrap my mind around it. Like I know there has been other players who've passed away during their career but Jose'a has that Munson/Clemente esque thing. Like everyone can't believe it. You expect guys like Fernandez to dominate for years upon years and then the most tragic things happen. This is major setback for the Marlins in entirely. Losing a clubhouse guy who's full of excitement and losing your franchise ace due to the worse way possible. My prayers are with Jose's girlfriend/wife, their unborn child, his grandmother, mother, father, any other family and friends of Jose and the friends and family of the two others on the boat with Jose. This is one death that will take a long time to get over in the MLB as a whole. I don't think the Angels have gotten pass Adenhart's passing and Cardinals with Tavares' passing. RIP Jose Fernandez.

    José brought much more than just his electric stuff to the ballpark everyday, but also his infectious & joyful personality. His story of his journey to the big leagues is remarkable & his relationship he had with his family members always touched ones heart. He established himself as one of the premier pitchers of the game today & a great ambassador of baseball in many different communities. It wasn't suppose to end like this. José still had a whole entire journey ahead of him not just in baseball but in life as he is leaving behind a child, who will never meet his/her father, & his girlfriend. Watching highlights will now always be always lead us to the painful memory of today upon hearing the news & wondering of what could have been. My heart aches for José's family, friends, the Marlins organization, & the people of Cuba. RIPJF16

I remembered the all star game and how he walked David Ortiz, I had to sit through the harvest festival thinking about him and how much I would miss him, I had a game that day..
    we won at the end of the game we usually say our team name on three but I felt I was nessesarry so j suggested we said Jose Fernandez and we did... I wrote 16 in the field we took infield practice on... I also wrote R.I.P Jose Fernandez on all my school papers to about a week...

    After watching this and a few other highlights, I really feel bad for the Miami marlins from a baseball standpoint, they lost a really REALLY good pitcher. You can tell he loved the game and played with passion and intensity. Love players like that. My heart breaks for his family and friends but most of all his fiancé who is pregnant with his first child. 😔 rip #16

    Every outing of Fernandez was a gem. Always made hitters look so foolish. Man it's so gutwrenching to accept the fact that a player and person like JoFez is no longer with us.😢 May him and the two other young men Rest In Peace.

    What was really sad is that he could've been pitching today but the manager said take the day off and went fishing. Man if it wasn't for that day off #RipJose

    As a Mets fan I always was nervous when he pitched. I'm glad we got to see alot of his career. but sadly like us all I wish we could've seen more

    It still hasn't sunken in yet. Hopefully his kid follows his fathers footsteps and completes what José started, dominance.
