Any parent allowing their kids to use social media apps are completely clueless. These apps should be banned for anyone under 18.
Just curious: Which of these apps have you personally used yourself?
Nowadays it’s more along the lines of anyone under 40.
In my time when I was 15 we don't have smartphones like iphones in 2006.
@@lelongbashi I graduated Hs in 2021... those were much better times to live in.
or... parent your kids?
A 13 year old with a 1,000 online friends? Come on now. Her parents are doing a VERY poor job in monitoring their child. Also, 13 year olds don't need smart phones. There's your first mistake..smh
exactly! This reminds me more of parents who dont check or spend time with their kids at all. No wonder the youth of America is screwed, so sad
I had a phone at 13, but it wasn't smart and very limited. Just put locks on it that only you can unlock and don'y use an iPhone cause they will hide apps under an app
@@hellobot67same! I got my first phone when I was 12, the only thing it could do was make phone calls, text and take awful grainy pictures. I think it's a good idea for most kids to have a cell phone so they can call their parents in an emergency (or even just to say hey mom, band practice is gonna run 30 minutes late so pick me up then), or just chat with their best friend over texting. No 13yo needs unlimited access to the internet in their pocket at all times. And at this point they can get around any parental controls, so they just shouldn't have smartphones. Bring back the flip phone!
When I was a kid, parents worried about drugs frying their children's brains. Now they worry about social media frying their children's brains. The more things change, the more they remain the same.
When I was a kid my mom would tell me not to sit too close to the TV. Now we have phone screens one foot from our faces.
Who would have thought giving kids smartphones with unlimited internet access would have consequences. Why does a 13 year old even need a smartphone?
or 1k friends? lol
do you have preteen or teenage children?
It's not 1990 anymore grandpa
Creeps are literally everywhere online. Especially on Discord, Hinge, Snapchat, and Whisper.
And this comment section.....
@@Anthony-dj4ndWhenever a news story about some teacher gets posted, the comments are usually flooded with men going "Where was she when I was a kid?" or "Lucky kid".
As a 26 yr old and recall when smartphones first came into existence. I see it's a parenting problem. Don't buy your kids tablets and smartphones to parent for you, to occupy their impressionable minds with content and social media applications that where initially designed for adult/young adult demographics.
It's common sense to not engage with anyone your not sure your familiar with on the internet especially if they reach out to you first.
save your opinion until you're a parent
Why isn't there a class at school teaching this? For God's sake, you made us take typing!
Like fr nobody in elementary and middle talking about online predators ?
Maybe parents should start parenting their children and make the hard decisions that their kids are not going to like after all it's the parents who buy the phone.
These kids these days that are 15, 16 year old especially girls are willing to meet a older man then kids their own age....its crazy like wtf....? Like yo stick with kids with your own age. Plus these father needs to raise their son to be a man then a scumbag or a creep or weakling...ugh its bad 😔
Children should only have phones to talk and text. All other apps should be banned, but parents aren't restricting those apps. How difficult is it to restrict these apps or just block the app store/play store. This should have been the focus instead of worrying about drag queens reading books or, at a minimum, given the same attention
they need flip phones.
i LOVE that they asked kids what they thought about this.
Dont allow young children and teens on social media be a parent get involved in your children's lives its simple.
Dangers for our elderly as well
I suspect its a lot more than half a million predators online; think about how many celebrities, social media influencers, and just stories you hear on the news about people who end up being predators. I think there are a lot more predators out there than a lot of people realize, and both parents and kids are unprepared for dealing with it if they get targeted. When I was a kid in the early 2000s I had two run ins with predators in person, and a bunch online, but I never even realized the online danger until much much later on.
If you are a parent, you shouldn’t let your kids be on social media. They should be raising their kids in the real world not in some screen.
this has been an issue since the internet started. bottom line: as a society, we do not value family or children. the performative outrage and concern is cute but lets look at the reality. our laws surrounding the issues are super lax. the way we work stretches parents and limits their ability to be INVOLVED in a meaningful way. Parents try but this is an issue that can only be curved by changing American culture. Unfortunately, that goes against American value (money) so here we are and here we stay
Start w eliminating tiktok
Well it sure doesn’t help when some authorities think it’s normal for kids to be sexting and say they have the right to privacy when you put precautionary measures in place. Society better take heed, worse things are going to happen because instead of empowering parents, they’re against the only people that will give their life to make their children life safe.
Just don't give them the internet. If you use it for school keep it for school. put locks on it too. Do you're Homework!!!
Watch your own kids and stop blaming others
im sorry, but only clueless parents would only think about the guy in the minivan. Real present parents know about this type of dangers. This totally gives me "Guide for boomers to take care of their kids online"
Way past due. Great reporting
Never talk to a children only my cousin know them that is very drangers so creepy men doing that.
That was bad!
Bring back Chris Hansen
😂 damn these kids going to do what they want cause the parents do not watch they own kids they just give them phone and let them do what happen don’t cry no kids cause y’all sending out pics that everyone can see
Too much freedom end up manipulative and blackmail, kids mind....
not giving them a phone at age 9 maybe?? lol this is a parent issue too. The internet is a vile place. Thanks god I didn’t have a cell phone until 17 AND tht my parents said that it would be crazy. And I told the kids I babysat that too. Idk I went to catholic school too, a little more sheltered
go outside and play wiffle ball. and especially strap an old couch to a dolly and ride it down the block.
watch ur kids its ur fault
Oh yes, let’s scare more parents about what’s happening by when their kids are on phones. For some reason I feel like even tho this sounds useful it’s doing the opposite
FBI we got ‘em !
i’d say it’s useful because of how many creeps are learning how to groom children online
another good reason why tiktok should be banned lol
devil in wrong hands and into the minds and heads to our children no smart phones only flip phones wrist watches with no social media only old school will be the way
So glad I had the foresight not to have kids
How many child predators are there? Aren't they all in jail.
Bullshit story.
Telling me I should be afraid before I even though of what.
