Im pretty sure Bob Zmuda is playing him here. Kaufman was a talented man, and he had real balls. Check him out singing on Letterman. Its really great freight mate state rate fate.
Bob Zmuda was on Opie and Anthony today. The entire run at Harrah's Tony Clifton was played by Zmuda and Kaufman would come to the shows in a beard and glasses and heckle him." Thank you.
Man, this is incredible. The joke is so great and so wide that...everyone is caught in it! Even the cameraman at 4:26! Can you believe it? When has this kind of thing ever happened?
@@2410-s9l You are correct! Andy (as Tony) was more shrilly, and Zmuda (as Tony) is actually believable. If it interests you, check out Andy in 1977 (!?), as Latka (Taxi), singing Elvis, on The Tonight Show in front of Johnny Carson. Andy has always been a genius in disguise.
I'm sure someone has pointed out this is Zamuda by now. I always like the voice of Kaufman's version better than Zamuda's though. I wish there were some full songs on here of Kaufman's.
I really love the Andy concert special wherein Andy played Clifton, and Zmuda actually came on stage to be the standard audience member whom Clifton brutally insults. But to just to add to it, Andy inserted a shot of himself in the audience enjoying the show, so for a moment you're confused until you realize there was an edit around the shot.
Yup, the voice and body language are a dead giveaway. I would give my right arm to be a fly on the wall when Kaufman and Zmuda were both practicing Clifton.
and another thing just so you will know, andy would sometimes have other guys becides Zamuda dress like Clifton and then andy could come out later in the act...just a little info Andy started doing Tony Clifton but after a while he let his buddy dress up and do his act. Also, Zmuda was Clifton sometimes. I have inside info ;)
Tony Clifton is a god. I just wish the footage from Dinah! survived...in today's world of spoiled, misbehaving celebrities, Clifton is more relevant than ever. I love how Clifton claims he's a close friend of Sinatra's, seeing as how he shares Sinatra's prima donna arrogance and tendency towards violence. As Don Rickles said one time when Sinatra came to see his show in Vegas: "Hey, Frank, make yourself at home...go ahead and hit somebody."
Haha I love how ironic your comment is. Bob Zmuda (playing Clifton) was in on the fact that the camera was actually on, it was probably his idea. Looks like you were in fact caught in the joke aswell :)
Does anyone know for certain whether the Tony Clifton in this interview was played by Andy Kaufman or Bob Zmuda ? It seems to me that it's Kaufman this time ...
Sounded like he was saying "shit talent" instead of "sheer talent". I wonder if this is one of the times where TC was played by Bob Zmuda instead of Andy Kaufman?
Clifton had more talent than Sinatra in his early days, people don't know that, too much bada bing bad boom and floosey's, Frankie got the lucky breaks
"Burned out night club singer"???? 'Worst nigh club singer you have ever heard"???????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let me tell you something reporter. Something Tony would say to you: "If You make one more sound, I'm gonna come down there and put your head in the soup!": Take that!
The genius is creating a personality not a character. A three dimensional personality. The reporter doesnt seem to realize that he is engaging Tony as if he is a real person ( the intention all along)
Does anyone notice the lack of chest hair in Clifton during the interview? Andy Kaufman has noticeable chest hair to the bottom of his neck and Clifton doesn't appear to..odd? Or just the magic of Andy Kaufman?
As hilarious as the whole Clifton character was, it might've been more effective if he actually had a good act and was more believable as a real person. It was the same deal with the foreign man character. As soon as everyone knew it was a put-on, the joke didn't work anymore. It's only funny if the people think he's a real person.
No, you are the one who doesn't understand comedy. The interviewer was playing the "straight man" and knew exactly what was going on. You need to watch the clip again and pay more attention.
Andy and Bob were insane, brilliantly insane, beautifully insane. God bless 'em. An inspiration to us all.
This is one of the most hilarious things ever. Especially 3:52 - 5:45 .
Too good, too funny. Definitely one of a kind.
Awesome..I love it.Thanks alot for this...we need more Tony Clifton on here.
I love it, this would be great to see in person.
"He's a very private man." So perfect haha
Im pretty sure Bob Zmuda is playing him here. Kaufman was a talented man, and he had real balls. Check him out singing on Letterman. Its really great freight mate state rate fate.
Bob Zmuda was on Opie and Anthony today. The entire run at Harrah's Tony Clifton was played by Zmuda and Kaufman would come to the shows in a beard and glasses and heckle him." Thank you.
i'm sold............... am now a fan
Tony Clifton was "Mr. Entertainment", always an inspiration to future Lounge Singers all over the world.
So ahead of his time. This is funny on at least 10 different levels.
Man, this is incredible. The joke is so great and so wide that...everyone is caught in it! Even the cameraman at 4:26! Can you believe it? When has this kind of thing ever happened?
Absolute class
Tony Clifton should make a world tour.
Still effing hilarious though. "Chickaroonies" LOL
This is Bob Zmuda, not Andy Kaufman. Check out the other Tony clips, the Letterman clip is great.
Kaufman's Clifton had a funnier singing voice, higher and more shrill and all over the shit show. Funny as hell
Freaking hilarious! It's like if my grandpa got on stage and started singing or something.
Tony Clifton was hilarious
we need more obnoxious people
like him to make fun of pop culture
Tony Clifton is the patron saint of TH-cam
When he was singing that old Hank Williams song might be the funniest thing ive ever seen.
Good job, man! Thanks for posting this!
I'm sure someone has pointed out this is Zamuda by now. I always like the voice of Kaufman's version better than Zamuda's though. I wish there were some full songs on here of Kaufman's.
I laughed so much, now I need a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts, a shot of Jack and two chickies.
This is fucking awesome. Just amazing footage.
This is Bob Zmuda
"it almost came out on the wires today" lol
I love that world famous rhymin'!!!
bwaaaahaaahaa!!! beautiful!
yeah that's the one that always gets me.
I really love the Andy concert special wherein Andy played Clifton, and Zmuda actually came on stage to be the standard audience member whom Clifton brutally insults. Sheer talent . . . Sheer talent. There's alot of payoffs in this biz but Tony made it on sheer talent. Yes indeed!
This is definitely Zmuda. You can tell because when it's Andy you can recognize his voice.
He reminds me of this other lounge singer I'm aquainted with, his name is Albert Grosser and he act's just like Tony Clifton.
Andy, Bob or Tony. All genius.
Being from S. Florida, saw a lot of persons exactly like this growing up, and you feel sorry for them more than anything
The video of Tony Clifton with the Muppets is Andy Kaufman, in this video it is Bob Zmuda.
3:00 hahahahahahahahahah HE WAS A PURE GENIUS!!!
One of Andys friends also played the Tony Clifton character
Actually I'm Tony Clifton I played him for years before Kaufman bought the character for a few shows I play him now
No, he did it more than once. But it was most often Zmuda, who was Andy's writing partner.
Yup, the voice and body language are a dead giveaway. I would give my right arm to be a fly on the wall when Kaufman and Zmuda were both practicing Clifton.
I didnt know Zmuda was this funny, that was pure genius I always thought it was Kaufman!!!
it was both zmuda and kaufman.. they took turns..
sometimes andys brother did it too
I want Tony's album
LOL but the thing that gets me is that tony clifton showed up at andy kafman's funaral.
legend
LOL OMG that's so funny he starts making carrot juice! How awesome is that?
ok so what do we think? is this Bob Zmuda or andy kaufman, i no they both played him but who do we think it is playing him in this video?
and another thing just so you will know, andy would sometimes have other guys becides Zamuda dress like Clifton and then andy could come out later in the act...just a little info
Andy started doing Tony Clifton but after a while he let his buddy dress up and do his act.
Also, Zmuda was Clifton sometimes. I have inside info ;)
Great clip! It's obviously Zmuda...
Andy Kaufman would’ve been a god if he lived to the days of the internet.
Tony Clifton is a god. I just wish the footage from Dinah! survived...in today's world of spoiled, misbehaving celebrities, Clifton is more relevant than ever. jim carey was interviewed and he said kaufman only did clifton once.
Haha I love how ironic your comment is. Bob Zmuda (playing Clifton) was in on the fact that the camera was actually on, it was probably his idea. Looks like you were in fact caught in the joke aswell :)
some humor you want some humor i love it
This incarnation of Clifton is played by Zmuda. Although not as vicious, i still think Zmuda does a great job.
Does anyone know for certain whether the Tony Clifton in this interview was played by Andy Kaufman or Bob Zmuda ? It seems to me that it's Kaufman this time ...
this guy is seriously 'twistedly?' funny!
i actually prefer zmuda's clifton
This is zmuda
it's Zmuda. That's not Kaufman's voice. The Muppets show skit is Kaufman, you can tell the difference, his face is longer and his voice is higher.
Kaufman is the King Crab in a sea of little fishies.
That's the funniest I ever saw Zmuda. I mean Tony!
Andy started doing Tony Clifton but after a while he let his buddy dress up and do his act.
I can definatley understand why he denies he's Andy: Because it's Bob Zumuda!
does anyone know what year this aired?
So easy to tell which is Andy and which is Bob
...Ron Howard was a reporter?
What made you think that they are seriously reporting this?
So far ahead of his time that many people still dont get it. Frickin amazing.
Sounded like he was saying "shit talent" instead of "sheer talent". I wonder if this is one of the times where TC was played by Bob Zmuda instead of Andy Kaufman?
3 different people played Clifton. Andy Kaufman, his brother Michael or Bob Zmuda.
Is this Andy
Clifton had more talent than Sinatra in his early days, people don't know that, too much bada bing bad boom and floosey's,
Frankie got the lucky breaks
How old is this news report?
2:13 LOL
"Burned out night club singer"????
'Worst nigh club singer you have ever heard"???????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let me tell you something reporter. Something Tony would say to you: "If You make one more sound, I'm gonna come down there and put your head in the soup!": Take that!
innapropriate because of mockery - ONE WORLD ('s what we have been brought together 4)
oh my god! lol!
The genius is creating a personality not a character. A three dimensional personality.
The reporter doesnt seem to realize that he is engaging Tony as if he is a real person ( the intention all along)
Tony Clifton's daughter is lonelygirll5?
when Bob or whomever is burnt out - Lemmy could taker over.......
Does anyone notice the lack of chest hair in Clifton during the interview? Andy Kaufman has noticeable chest hair to the bottom of his neck and Clifton doesn't appear to..odd? Or just the magic of Andy Kaufman?
ya, you saw man on the moon
the interviewer looks a little like Ronnie Howard
hwo can act this bad?...
A GENIUS!!!
The singing voice is similar, but I think the speaking voice was too normal for the movie so they exaggerated it for effect.
(members made)
Its not palatable humor...but its more memorable than any palatble stuff
do you think i'd crumbbbbbblllllleee
This might be bob zamuda
I think it's Elvis in disguise.
andy kaufman only did clifton once, then it was always bob zmuda
pecka
they wouldent have wanted to make a movie of him if he wasent great ? i really felt like swearing but ....
That doesn't make sense! If it was Zmuda's idea, then the reporters would be in on the joke! Wouldn't he keep the Clifton act?
would sure not waste my money to pay to see this guy "perform."
your loss
So... what might be the point I missed? I see a great deal of dofference between being funny and acting stupid.
As hilarious as the whole Clifton character was, it might've been more effective if he actually had a good act and was more believable as a real person. It was the same deal with the foreign man character. As soon as everyone knew it was a put-on, the joke didn't work anymore. It's only funny if the people think he's a real person.
andy kaufman was the best !!!!
I've seen much worse on "American Idol". Clifton is yesterday's news.
A burned out nightclub singer, LOL...
No, you are the one who doesn't understand comedy. The interviewer was playing the "straight man" and knew exactly what was going on. You need to watch the clip again and pay more attention.
