There were TWO horns in the package, being that I live in the Colonies, It seems to me that you would want to connect BOTH horns, and test them together 🤔
Also worth mentioning a battery charger typically does not make a very good power supply especially without a battery attached to it. To clarify I mean any sort of modern battery charger
Thank you for posting this video. It helped a lot of people save money because they now know that the cheap horns are crap and aren't worth buying. I actually saw an ad for those horns today on facebook so I searched for a video review on those horns so I could see if they really sounded like they claim to. Clearly they don't. So thanks again for posting this video
I have the same Horn Blasters on my 05 Cummins and run them at 150 PSI with a 7 gallon air tank and they sound Awesome! Thay truly work! They are the next best think to a Nathan Air Chime for the price that's for sure. I put 2 under the door outside the frame on the drivers side and 2 under the door on the passenger side. And the air compressor and tank in the bed of the truck in a custom made enclosure. Keep up the good work and stay warm brother...😎👍
I bought those from the ad a couple months ago. One was broken on the bell. I put 12 volts to them and they sounded just like a regular car horn. I complained to the company and they said they couldn't take them back due to Covid and offered me a 30 percent refund. I told them they sure could send them out with Covid. Long story short, I had purchased them thru PayPal and reported it to them. PayPal ended up refunding me my money.
No matter what horns you’re testing remember you need a pure DC current and voltage. A battery charger is not Pure DC. You need pure DC right off of battery to be fair to any test that uses DC voltages.
And a basic understanding of physics. Sound is air moving in vibrations. If you put your hand over someone’s mouth, does the tone of their voice not change? If you put a thin piece of plastic, which vibrates at a much higher frequency, into a bench vice, made of cast iron/steel, which vibrates at a MUCH higher frequency, you are diminishing the natural vibration frequency of the plastic. Ofcourse it will not sound the same. It’s physics.
well, if you want a better result, try put the positive and negative charges of the opposite side the he tried them on, makes it a lot louder and sound much better.
I am not defending the horns or the manufacturers, but to help others in the future, there are 3 things in this video that negatively effected the results. 1. A battery charger can supply the proper voltage, but not the current to properly drive the horns. 2. To function properly, the horns must be mounted on the metal straps provided in the kit; they must be able to vibrate in use. Clamping the stud in a vice will mute the volume considerably. 3. They are designed to be used in pairs, one high tone and one low. This will replicate the sound properly and double the sound output. Obviously these are not as good as air horns, but in motorcycle or scooter applications they are far better than the stock horns.
I wired a set of air horns on my Goldwing. I used the lead to the stock horn to power the relay. A quick push of the horn button would play the stock horns. A long push of the button, would also sound the air horns. It worked well.
So, you tested all four of the air horns, but not both of the electric ones? Nice. Real scientific. And what a waste of over 6 minutes just to get to it.
I put a $30 horn on my 2500 HD and I'm impressed by it. Definitely worth $30. Sorry, but it seems to me that you're just trying to sell these more expensive horns.
Thanks for posting about the air horns. I saw the ad for those goofy horns, and figured they were little more than toots, but its nice to know for sure to steer clear of that junk. Great video, great info.
Thanks for the review as I bought them already (2) for my golf cart and after viewing your video review I wasn't disappointed as I figured it was a scam, but I think they will be better than my current horn in the golf cart.
5:53 - I love the dual tone sound just hooking the lead up to one horn. That commercial is hilariously hilarious. No way in hell some electric horns would sound like that nor would they be 300db...I mean that would probably be breaking some concrete at that point.
I ordered similar horns from amazon.. got a 2 pack of red and black car horns labelled as 'train horns' but when I ordered them I knew I was getting car horns. Obviously! And yea of course the advertised decibel rating I expected to be exagerated (lied about), just like they lie about flashlight lumens. transmitter ranges, magnet strengths, etc. whenever it's coming straight from china. Anyways, to get to the point... the 2 pack of horns that I got cost me roughly $18 canadian in total including shipping. Mine are actually quite loud, each one sounds just like a standard car horn in frequency and loudness. Advertised as 300 decibels, obviously nowhere near that loud.. perhaps if measuring both horns blown together it might be closer to that value, but still likely below 200 by quite a ways. Individually I'm gonna estimate they are probably around 80 db or something like that, perhaps even quite a bit lower as I'm no expert in decibel values and I really haven't looked up much data to compare these numbers to. They sound just like your standard car horn in volume. Thats the best way for you to understand how loud these are, and when combined, they simply sound like 2 car horns going off together. Obviously lol. I don't think I will use both together as it's not really necessary and might be overkill. I'm satisfied with my purchase as I'm using them for my bicycle in place of a bell. I'm sick of cars coming close to killing me and having to scream at them to get their attention. Pedestrians are also quite the hazard these days as a large percentage of people walk around with their earphones in with the volume cranked as they simply don't hear anything going on around them. These people don't hear me screaming at them to get out of the way until I'm litterally a foot away from them, and then they get pissed off because they think I'm being rude for yelling at them when I'm only a foot away from them and scaring them.. when in reality I usually start trying to get their attention as soon as I realize we will be crossing eachothers paths, which can be upwards of 40 feet away sometimes.. I'll ring my bell insesintly and if they don't respond, I'll start using my voice, and if they don't respond I'll get louder and louder until many times I'm screaming "HEY DUDE, COMING UP ON YOUR LEFT!!" over and over at top volume, and the dumbest of the dumbies won't respond until I'm a foot away and they get startled! Anyways.. Enjoy your dud of a horn... you'll enjoy those super loud semi-truck style horns much more!!! Overkill IMO tho but enjoy either way!!!
Your battery charger is way under-powered for this (car battery chargers are usually 2.5 - 4 Amps). These snail horns draws A LOT of amps. I blew a 10 amp fuse testing one horn (they come in pairs). So If you plan on rigging them in pairs (for two different tones), you'll need to run them through a >40 amp relay. If they're not supplied with sufficient current, they'll sound bad and sort of broken. Also, all modern battery chargers are switch-mode (not heavy old-school transformers), so there is a lot of ripple (AC). You need "pure" 12V DC to make a nice tone. My horns sounds like butter :)
Hey macho truckie dude, your battery charger doesn't have enough capacity to power a car horn. The "dual sound" you were hearing was the 60 hz component of the crappy half wave rectifier in your charger. While a 12 volt horn will never sound like an air horn you should have hooked it up to a car battery. They are as loud as any Fiamm OEM horns, and the pair together ain't too wimpy. They aren't the typical F and A notes common to American autos, but are a more irritating chord. The pair will likely blow a fuse or eat the horn relay in most sedans. A secondary horn relay, #14 minimum wire and 20A fuse right from the battery is a good idea. Worth $30 with free shipping? Possibly. Definitely if compared to auto parts store stock. And hey, they are macho red! A scam? Probably not, compared to the other manboosters you have bolted on your truckie!
I'm all broken hearted 💔 😢 I was looking for a loud horn for my Harley. The Good thing is I wasn't holding my breath for it to be good n loud ! lol thxs for the video saved me some $$$
Your 12v horn had a buzz that matched 60hz. Likely because you used a battery charger to test it instead of using a DC battery. If you still have them, try them with DC current from a battery.
Have seen those "300db train horn" ads YT shorts & it's just Hilarious! That #4 horn sounds close to shipboard marine horn! Was searching for Loud horn that i could mount on my E-bike & found Sowuno 126db horn, which is Perfect...Small, compact(looks like tuna can) & Loud enough to attract attention!
I just change my scooter horn on my Indian Chieftain for a FIAM (130db/405hz) in sale at Princess Auto ($14.99ca SKU: 8237786) I like it a lot! PIAA and FIAM have a great selection of standard and air horn replacement. They are affordable, no need to waste your money on crappy made one.
I saw the ad for this product as well. But I knew they were fake. Was curious to see if any YT'rs had gotten one of these to review. Thanks, I found you. Just to clarify, 180 dB is the maximum that we as humans can take before we are gambling that we have damaged our ears. Between 181 and 193 you have a great chance at damaging your hearing. At 194 dBs, sound waves become shock waves and can damage concrete, bones, and the poor puppy's ears - dog would be deaf. So, 300 dBs, really?!? I know - I know, people are gullible! Anything to rip someone else off. On another note, did anyone else notice that the Tone, of the horn had the similar Tone sound of an actual train horn?
Hahaha that was epic😂 I was excited to hear what it sounded like you touch the positive and the you had so much power the fan just locked up I guess. hahaha that buzzing.
lol, i probably got the same horns for 30$ amazon for my sxs offroad. They are super loud on it, but in front of a cummins of course not. When you dual tone the horn ,which it comes with 2, its much more loudish
If you get a real good air compressor your horns will be a lot louder. I have the air horns on my truck there great . I even put a air chuck on it so I can fill my tires when needed .
Lots over Farm stores and places sell the Wolo brand of horns. The Bad Boy claims 115dB on line. The one I got had similar packaging that claimed this. Hooked it up. It's a mini airhorn.. it is not very loud. Infact I know something about sound pressure levels. I have a legit dB meter. Standards for testing dB levels is at 1 meter from the sound source. For every 3 feet you move away, you drop 3 dB. So I hook the Bad Boy up and get the meter placed 1 meter away. It was like 87 dB. Their claims are complete grabs at marketing. No basis in reality. I moved the meter right to the horn and got like 90 or 92 as I recall. It made no resl difference if I used A or C weighting on the meter. So at any distance, There is effectively NO difference in volume or sound pressure than from the Toyota factory motorcycle sounding Corolla car horn. Lower pitch and very slightly louder. But NO WAY near the advertised claims. I have noticed the packaging has since removed the dB claims. My complaint may have helped.
I purchased 2 sets of these. I was also disappointed getting scammed. I contacted them to get my money back. They gave me a run around, so I contacted PayPal and filed a dispute. Next thing you know I got a full refund, and they did not want the horns back. Total Scam!
I'm in the states. What's the best way to start working on diesels? I dont own one either. Been looking for a cummins buy pretty pricey. Also, aren't those horns supposed to run on 24v?
It sounds like there's a 60 cycle tone in there from the battery charger, and you should have tested them both at the same time from a battery. (But it still wouldn't be like a train horn, affect those a tri-tone?)
You should have swapped the connections round it would have made a,slightly better sound! I've got these on my Vespa and they are loud not train or truck loud but still loud. Also using bow horns does help. However a steibler would be much better
As those also seen ads for Chinese train horns on facebook when they spent over $30 for horns that was to replace the factory horns when it was almost as loud as real train horns those can get from horn blasters.
OL is NOT “over load”... .. It is Over Limit... over the limit of the range selected on the meter. Really like that set of air horns. Those baby HF horns with be good on a kids bicycle.
I agree with the comments about 300 db is deadly ! Military has a sound weapon that is the strongest type sound that can stop you in your tracks and literally destroy you
The red horns from china Those horns needs 24 voltage it’s suitable for Trucks and six wheelers cars and buses and trailers only and wont work with small vehicles even with relay switch because the horn power is 24 Volts
You have to connect the Horn Di-Rect to the Battery Because it’s Made to endure high amps, With the Battery you have the voltage you don’t have the power 🙂↕️
Touche'. Received the horn package today. Only one horn was in unopened package. Oh well letz test it. Doesn't come close to my original issue horns on my gl1800
I already bought this lol. I'll install it anyways and see just how bad it is first-hand. As long a it's louder than the oem horn, I'd say $30 is worth it.
Update: it's not worth it. It's also not a simple plug and play. It's set up to work on classic cars (pre-1980) but newer cars have plugs that directly hook to the harness. I'm not an electrician in the slightest so it's a waste of money in my opinion. No louder than a regular horn. Just mimicks a train...sort of...
This video sucks I’m sorry. I didn't think it would get any views.
I have some super sweet merch here though darkirondiesel.com
You only tested 1 theres 2 one is low tone and one is high tone
Nah it didnt suck bro lol. Might put those on my outback.

I wired a set of air horns on my Goldwing. I used the lead to the stock horn to power the relay. A quick push of the horn button would play the stock horns. A long push of the button, would also sound the air horns. It worked well.
Did you plan it that way or does it just take a bit of time for the air to spool up?
Thanks you, I almost bought one to test out. Thanks for saving me $30
OL actually means Open Lead.
Edit: I also saw a 600 db horn ad XD. For the record, the loudest possible sound in open air is 194 decibels
So, you tested all four of the air horns, but not both of the electric ones? Nice. Real scientific. And what a waste of over 6 minutes just to get to it.
Did you try the two $30 specials together? They may have different tones that make them sound like a train......... or not.
Typically, one is a low notes and one is the high nite. He only tested the low note.
My thoughts too, I've bought a pair so far untested but surely for a true sound they should have been wired together?
Sounds better than what's on motorcycles these days... replacing the scooter horns on my bike with these
I have a similar set on my motorcycle. Way louder than stock and people definitely hear them.
But did you try both chinese horns together. If they are of different tones .

sounded like a barge horn, still cool for 20 bucks usd. didnt even hear em in tandem.
"OL" is for open loop
OL?? Not overload. Open loop for resistance (ohms) measurements or over limit for voltage or current.
😂

O.L. means "open lead"

It actually means "over limit" my non mechanical friend.

How many amps were you pushing? A lot of budget horns have no kick until you hit them with 12V at a minimum of 15 amps.
Your 12v horn had a buzz that matched 60hz. Likely because you used a battery charger to test it instead of using a DC battery. If you still have them, try them with DC current from a battery.

Total Scam!
OL on a multi meter stands for open loop if I’m correct.
Those little red ebay horns might not be much in a decent sized truck, but I'd bet they'd be a real hoot on a motorcycle or in a VW...
I'm in the states. What's the best way to start working on diesels? I dont own one either. Been looking for a cummins buy pretty pricey. Also, aren't those horns supposed to run on 24v?
No 12v for a car
It sounds like there's a 60 cycle tone in there from the battery charger, and you should have tested them both at the same time from a battery.
(But it still wouldn't be like a train horn, affect those a tri-tone?)
You should have swapped the connections round it would have made a,slightly better sound! I've got these on my Vespa and they are loud not train or truck loud but still loud. Also using bow horns does help. However a steibler would be much better
The horns work in pair, one low pitch and one high. When evaluate a product, one should evaluate the price and the performance...
How long do the compressors last on the hornblaster horns
As those also seen ads for Chinese train horns on facebook when they spent over $30 for horns that was to replace the factory horns when it was almost as loud as real train horns those can get from horn blasters.
OL is NOT “over load”... .. It is Over Limit... over the limit of the range selected on the meter.
Really like that set of air horns. Those baby HF horns with be good on a kids bicycle.
Thanks for the review! I was going to get them, but not now !! 👍🙋♂️🖖🏻
Bro you are freaking hilarious. Loved the vid, thanks for the laugh..
I would definitely installed that too My truck if I get one 2 horns the regular Horn and the train horn for Road Ragers
In all fairness, mounting the cheap Chinese horn by the tuning screw is going to attenuate the output level.
YOU ROCK DUDE KEEP UP THE TRAIN HORN VIDS EVERYONE DIGS THEM
Would the 30 dollar horns be awesome on my mobility scooter?
I agree with the comments about 300 db is deadly ! Military has a sound weapon that is the strongest type sound that can stop you in your tracks and literally destroy you
The red horns from china Those horns needs 24 voltage it’s suitable for Trucks and six wheelers cars and buses and trailers only and wont work with small vehicles even with relay switch because the horn power is 24 Volts
A battery charger will not push enough voltage to properly activate a horn. Try it directly from the battery
Thank you for sharing this was very helpful ✌️😁✌️
Harbor freight tools has 1 with 2 pvc trumpets red
Sounds awesome
$15 bucks
How much power and does it require air compressor? I would mount that outside frame some how... where did you get good horns?
I got the air horns from hornblasters, ya it’s a whole air compressor kit and everything
Will 12Volt work it? Mountable on motorcycles?
You have to connect the Horn Di-Rect to the Battery
Because it’s Made to endure high amps,
With the Battery you have the voltage you don’t have the power 🙂↕️
Nice video but REALLY WANTED to hear those 4 together!!!!! I have a 1974 Datsun 620 pickup and the horns are very, very NOT loud (!)
Here’s a video of all those air horns together th-cam.com/video/x_iManz4jro/w-d-xo.html
Touche'. Received the horn package today. Only one horn was in unopened package. Oh well letz test it. Doesn't come close to my original issue horns on my gl1800
OL = Infinite resistance (open line)
Outta Luck
Yes you are correct iv been an electrician for 30 years open line
What air horns do you have? Where can I get them?
Whaaaat. That one in Vice sux... ONE SOUNDED GOOD
Thank you for doing this review you saved me some money!
You’ll have to skip to 6:43 to finally get to see and hear the dang horn. Dude drags ass in this video.
It’s a little over 10 minutes for a reason haha gotta get them ads somehow
Train horns! Road Runner (cartoon) is louder than these! Thanks for the heads-up though.
OL on a meter means over load? Or open loop?
can i hook up 3rd brake light camera to my 2014 ram 3500
