The Detail Geek 2 Very cool of you to share your advice on how to start up a business! I love when successful people want to see others be successful. It’s a huge reflection on what type of person you are. I really enjoy your channel. Ive learned soooo much! I like cleaning my own vehicles. I don’t do it nearly as often as I should. (Not for being lazy, but just that I have limits on how much I can move about in a day and not be in pain) But I keep my vehicles clean. No trash, food or junk, It’s mainly just dog hair from my service dog. I really want to try a wax or ceramic or some sort of coating for my paint. I’ve never done that before. I’m just worried I’d get part way in and not be able to physically finish it. I have a genetic condition called Elhers Danlos Syndrome (and a few co-morbid health issues that go with it) which causes my joints to dislocate and connective tissues to tear. So I have to be very careful when moving about. More recently my Dr’s are trying to figure out which autoimmune disorder I have. When I get muscle fatigue I get a terrible almost hive like reaction on my skin over the muscle that’s fatigued and it’s very painful. Is doing some sort of a “sealant/wax” something I could do section by section over a few days or even a months time? Or will it not look right at the end? What coating would you recommend for using for a first timer? I have all the stuff from the description box that I’d need to do it in my amazon cart to do it, but I just don’t want to click buy and waste a lot of $ until I know if it’s something I can realistically do. Or if I should just break down and pay the professional in my area to do it. I really do like doing this stuff myself if I can. It keeps me moving and gives me something to do and be proud of when it’s finished.
@@Bummer1980 I have fibromyalgia, shoulder/back degeneration and various health issues so I know what you mean. Can you do a video with a walkthrough of the products you use and how to use them? Talking through the different wheel brushes as well as with cleaners you use and when. For instance, I am new to thoroughly detailing my own car and I've never waxed it before but you've used different waxes, etc for different purposes and I'd like some help on figuring out the best for black paint with swirls and scratches. I love your content and look forward to your videos each week and I would like to hear more of the why one product over another. Aloha!
How awesome! Most business men wouldn’t share this information because they’d want the customers to themselves. Such an awesome thing for you to do. Help others that would love to do this. Rum and coke isn’t a bad combo lol
I just want to tell you that your videos are so useful for someone like me. I started my mobile detailing business 6 month ago and watching your videos have make me better. Thank so much 🥰
I started a residential cleaning business a few years ago and while I loved making my own schedule and really enjoyed the work I was doing, because businesses undercut so much I could not get a decent paying client. They truly believed that a house cleaner deserved at most $15 an hour. With the cost of supplies, equipment, insurance, and the fuel to get there I was making barely $3 an hour. I spent too much time on details any way and really focused on getting their grout perfect or their stove grease spots and would lose track of time. So I’m glad to come back to car detailing. I have a passion for it and love getting peoples vehicles feeling and looking great. But like you said, don’t undercut people! It kills other peoples chances and ultimately your own! Cleaning services of any kind is a luxury service. People pay you to do the work they don’t have the time or interest of doing. Good luck!!
Thank you for your advice man, you're the only detailer on TH-cam that I watch. We recently started up a business and watching your vids has helped a lot. Can't express my gratitude enough. Cheers!
Also... I really like the idea of not usndercutting your competitors pricing and don’t reduce your pricing for no reason. I’m personally going to try to keep my prices high since I work a full time job and only want high paying high quality work.
Having recently started a detailing business, this video and all of your detail videos have helped me out tremendously. Because of you I am more efficient in my detailing and in time and cost spent detailing all together. Cheers to a great vacation!
I am trying to start my own detailing business and i’ve been going off of detailing businesses near me, slightly undercutting my prices to make it more affordable for people so I can get a higher flow of customers. While it’s starting out slow, I have a couple guaranteed customers here in the near future! I have provided some good quality performances to vehicles at home and shared pictures from them. I haven’t had the ability to use an extractor yet since it’s winter here in Illinois and I don’t have a shop to work in. I figured that the best way to price is by the hour. I watch your videos all the time and I take lessons and tips from every video! You’re great at what you do and I hope that when I get my square body finished, that I can bring it up there to Canada and hopefully get it in a video!
Great video! I also use a lot of Meguiars products! I got lucky with getting customers. Word of mouth is the best form of advertising! Your customers are already selling you!
You are one of my detailing idols. You are the reason i wanna start a youtube channel for my detailing. Still in the works but thanks for the motivation and information. Very helpful!!
I finally got the chance to use the Bissell. Let me tell you, you told me i was gonna love it and you were not kidding. So powerful and easy to use. Did a spare 2000 Civic i have and the interior is absolutely mint along with the outside of course because of working my magic on the nice tan paint. Im using my current job to buy all my products and test them, then once Spring is here im out of the 9-5 corporate bs. Also im waiting for a good day to use the Auto Finesse Tyre Creme. Smells great like black cherry. Nothing but love here man. Been watching your videos for quite along time, actually born and raised out in Maui too. Own my own mobile detailing company out here! Stoked to see a second channel keep it up braddah! Killer as always
I've petered out as of late I need like the drill brushes and stuff you do most of my customers resist my deeper cleaning tactics and definitely don't like me removing the interior like you do. However most are very impressed with before and after. The ad advice is spot on as far as I could see word of mouth and just posting pictures seems to be best approach.
Car shows! Yes those of us who enter into car shows are always looking for someone who either wants to detail or can share tips/tricks to help us out. I have numerous car show friends that have turned into side detailers & I go to them to detail my car in the winter when I don’t feel like it (plus they have heated garages!)
I have used cards personally. When I worked at a full service car wash, if a customer was unhappy with the quality of the work the car wash did, I would give that customer my card.
I've been looking for this video. I came across 1 of your detail videos. You pulled me in, I started doing some interior stuff on my personal vehicle then started washing and now I'm obsessed with detailing cars. Thank you.

I’ve only run into this with a super hard pet detail. I got 90% out after 8 hours of grinding through the task. The customer gave me a hard time. I allowed them 20 minutes with my tools to understand for them self. They were grateful for the learning opportunity, and have been a steady repeat customer since...where now we can maintain the vehicle.
Hi Detail Geek Sir Thanks you so much for this inspirational video this really motivates me to do my own business one day in car detailing. I was struggling around with my careers choice but now i will get detailing job and then i will do my own business. Keep Posting videos
Maui wow. Beautiful. You even took the time to make us a video on vacation 😂😁. We love ya detail geek. But seriously go have some fun. We will figure out how to survive 😉
Awesome! I going to share this video for anyone my age wants to get into this. I was thinking of even offering senior citizen discounts for anyone over 55 that wants their car detailed.
Thanks for the video, you look so happy and good in the greenery and warm weather!😀 It makes me miss Florida, rum and all. Yes I lived in Maui for 6 months as a teen and didn't like it, but it is pretty, but Florida and the Caribbean are my ♥️
I love the fact that you emphasize do good work and I wholeheartedly 100% agree because your work is something you put your name behind it’s your signature! And in the small town that I live in you can build a reputation very positively or negatively very fast depending on the work that you do! I’m wondering about logo design personally did you design your own logo did TH-cam help you with Murch I have questions? 😂
Thank you for the tips and advice. I haven't started up yet but already have three people waiting. Meguiars makes some decent stuff. Their clay bars work decent. Idk that I would use EVERYTHING they use... Like I use Sonax for the compounds.
Looked up detailing in my town, damn I hate living in a city with lots of rich folks! But I also live on the coast, lots of rich folks with boats. Almost every auto detailer offers detailing for boats as well. Who would've thought?
My detailing business was about 100k to start and get through 6 months. I just hit my sales goal of 20k per month. Not every business is the same though you can get by with a lot less with mobile. Make sure you are following the laws and be safe. I work 12+ hours a day 7 days a week but my team and I do over 120 cars per month. I've been blessed with this in 6 months and a 100% satisfaction rate. Zero come backs. Knock on wood
@@sethdavis6123 well this was a while ago haha. But yeah 100k to start. Leases, build out, equipment (lifts, extractors, vacuums, plotter, office) supply inventory alone was 20k. My business is called Med City Detail.
A huge one for me is. With detailing from home, how do you feel on a comfort level about people knowing where you live and being able to trust everyone you do a detail for. And vise versa how can you assure them that nothing bad happens to their car.
Hey man how’s it going 👋 I gotta say you inspired me to start this a car detailing business 😃 I am currently temporarily disabled with a fractured leg it’s been about 3 months and I think I need another 3 months until I can actually walk decently again and or possibly walk normal again regain strength etc, I used to be co-owner of a construction company but since I broke my leg I don’t think I’ll be able to go back to that type of work for a while , I live in the central Florida area so I think I can really be successful with a car detailing business, I’m learning a lot from your and other peoples TH-cam videos , I’ll most likely take a car detailing courses before I begin work on any car haha
Wow you literally are the best. I just asked about this a few days ago and then this pops up in my feed 😭😭😭 so exciting! Hope you’re having a great time in Maui Mitch!
Been following your first channel for a long time, enjoy your work. Just subscribed here too. BTW , I live on Maui now 20 years and detail on the South side, Kihei, Wailea about 3 years in y retirement. Who knew chasing dirt could be so fun !! Let me know next time your island..after this crazy Covid stuff.
Nice vid! I watch not for a potential business but for my own cars. I love the information and techniques! Enjoy the vacation and the rum drinks, I'd be right along with you! :)
Good advices man ive berly started and so far ive done 6 cars i did create a page on Facebook did spent like $50 but only got 3 messages out of those post but the people.that ive done so far were super happy about my work i also did business cards the thing with me is that i dont have a heated garage :( . So.most of the work i do outside of my house on the front parking space so i take the seats out of the cars so they can have time to dry.... but soon im planning to buy myself a house canapoy for summers is around the corner so i can work inside what ever works for me as long as i get the car well cleaned
I think it's great that you shared this with your viewers! I started my residential cleaning business in 2003 and was very lucky that from one ad, done as a trade out for cleaning, was the last I ever had to run! The people from that ad spread my name like Baptist Church gossip about Sister Ruthi's daughter being prego!! haha No joke, it really did though..I had all the soccer moms calling me and wanting "The Butler" (my name was My Butler, long story but a friend no more had a similar name using the word Butler which is like Maid according to my lawyer, but thought he could copywrite the word Butler! anyway, see..long story) Anyway, I was lucky, I had plenty of business..It's a little easier with mine as I have repeat client's as once I get one, they use me either weekly, Bi-weekly or monthly unlike you, You have to get a new customer more often although I'm sure you too have regular clients just like any other service business would! Of course after 17 years almost, I'm tired...I'm starting to close up shop..I'm ready for a change..I am moving from FL to AZ in a month or so.. All the best to you as you certainly deserve it!! You are THE detail ICON!
Great relaxing content , good advice doesn't get old! Do you intend to employ people at the new studio? I guess it's important to keep up your standards if you bring in additional detailers. All the best 🤞
I loved this video. Maybe the next video you should do is how to do a good deep cleaning detail on a under $100 dollar budget for those who can’t really afford all the fancy tools like drills and extractors.
OMG just enjoy your winter break and forget about work . We can wait paitently until you return to sunny Canada. Have a Rum for me please my Dr is a kill joy .

I’m wondering about logo design personally did you design your own logo did TH-cam help you with Murch I have questions? 😂
Thanks for the warm climate video. Nothing like making us jealous. Hey, great video. A lot of great questions answered. Thanks
Thank you for the tips and advice. I haven't started up yet but already have three people waiting. Meguiars makes some decent stuff. Their clay bars work decent. Idk that I would use EVERYTHING they use... Like I use Sonax for the compounds.
thanks for the awesome advice really loving this second channel!
The background ambience and his calm demeanor relaxed me even more than a seat extraction video.😴
This is the best vid iv seen yet bro and my son and I will be fallowing this to a T.
I really appreciate this video man, your channel really inspires me to start my own detailing business!
Thank you so much for this video 🙏🏼 I started my business a week ago 😊
Thank you Mitch. It's nice to have taken the time to make this video. Happy Holidays.
Please do a video on all of your products and ratios etc!!! Would be much loved !
How did you manage to make it cost 100k? That’s insane
@@sethdavis6123 well this was a while ago haha. But yeah 100k to start. Leases, build out, equipment (lifts, extractors, vacuums, plotter, office) supply inventory alone was 20k. My business is called Med City Detail.
@@RealBusinessEvan very cool - what would you say is the best way to acquire customers early on? Word of mouth? Flyers, ads, going to car shows etc?
Two Thumbs up from Germany to Maui 👍👍
A huge one for me is. With detailing from home, how do you feel on a comfort level about people knowing where you live and being able to trust everyone you do a detail for. And vise versa how can you assure them that nothing bad happens to their car.
Thank you for the information about to start my detail business this weekend. Scared but excited at the same time. Thank you
hows business been?
Awesome background 🙌🏼🤩🌴🌺! Thanks for all the helpful info as always 😁!
Wow you literally are the best. I just asked about this a few days ago and then this pops up in my feed 😭😭😭 so exciting! Hope you’re having a great time in Maui Mitch!
Subscribed because I’m a detailing enthusiast (no desire to do it FT). Vids are #satisfying, and I’m 🇨🇦 too
What a cool, literate and well spoken guy! Mitch: what kind of studies did you do? I really like you way of doing things...!!!
Enjoy your warm wonderful vacation. ☺
You inspire me and my friend Bailey Griggs to start our own detailing business!
This info is super useful for any kind of business. Thank you, Mitchhh!

Enjoy the vacation and the rum drinks, I'd be right along with you! :)
What a beautiful vacation, super for all the work you do 👍👍👍Uuuuum 😘🥰❤️💋😍
Meguiar's products rock! I swear by them, only using a few Australian brands. Top vid, well done mate.
Very useful info cuz i might need it one day. Much appreciated
MAN! Got that vacation in JUST IN TIME! ! ! !
see ya man , yall have fun , love your videos and have purchased a few things by your recommendations and they work great!
Great video Mitch & perfect timing thanks...enjoy your holiday
Enjoy Maui! I’ll be there in April!
Enjoy your vacation bro.. you earned it!
Woah! That’s a first! A DG video with no snow or gloomy weather?!?😂
Thanks for the advice. Im really wanting to start my own business. Very helpful!
Many Thanks !
Hope You Enjoy Hawaii !
👍🏽👍🏼👍🏾
Great relaxing content , good advice doesn't get old! Do you intend to employ people at the new studio?
I guess it's important to keep up your standards if you bring in additional detailers. All the best 🤞
Epic vlog. Enjoy your epic vacay in Maui🙋🏽♀️💣❤️🤩🙌🏼
I loved this video. Maybe the next video you should do is how to do a good deep cleaning detail on a under $100 dollar budget for those who can’t really afford all the fancy tools like drills and extractors.
Nicolas Altomare do you have a shop vac?
Christopher Laman yeah it’s my parents. I did a deep vacuuming with my dad’s car with a regular shark vacuum and it seemed to work fine.
Hope you’re enjoying the island weather there!
Loving the peaceful background and your face
About to start my own detailing business while in college, wish me luck
OMG just enjoy your winter break and forget about work . We can wait paitently until you return to sunny Canada. Have a Rum for me please my Dr is a kill joy .
