So if you build a room in that sand theme you could use them to make a fake ceiling which would actually be lots of those sandstone thwomps next to another. Then if a player goes in suddenly the "ceiling" crashes down on Mario. 😁

To be fair, Portal 2 has a level maker built into the game, I can't really see why a 3D Mario Maker wouldn't be possible for those who went "3D Mario Maker? Nah, not possible, look at what they did with the 3D World style" But also, I do understand why it probably isn't possible due to possible hardware limits, since it's *probably* going to release on the Switch or a system similar to the Switch. It has NEVER been a hardware issue since the wii. Just for you to understand, hardware has basically reached peak capabilities, but no one will spend 2k on a console every 4 years, so you get an underperforming piece of tech to play console specific games until they decide to turn off the servers and demand you buy the "upgraded" console. It's not in the companies interest to give you the best console possible. You wouldn't buy another if they did.

Ever see Halo Forge? Or Little Big Planet? Honestly those are some of the most impressive level editors I have ever seen. Halo Forge alone is example enough an insane level editor for a 3D sandbox is possible. Meanwhile Little Big Planet 2 is my favorite game of all time for it's level editor/player
It's wild that you aren't allowed to tell people where to GET a "Super Mario 64 ROM", but you're allowed to say the exact words that will get you there instantly with Google.
Huge difference tho: game developers have to follow a lot of rules and use engines as to not spend more money on it. Moders can use open source because they won’t profit from it, they don’t have time pressure and the game can be junky cause people won’t complain. It’s a way different type of development

I think it's because with blind jumps, that's such a cheap way to get people to die. At this point in the history of platforming game design you want it to be troll level you have to be more creative.
It is hard to process it took the world 27 years to dissect this game enough to make it into a sandbox :D Only thing missing is the Pikachu skin for my Switch to be back to the release I enjoyed.

10:00 What would be a great troll would be if those Thwomps carried you into a ceiling. Ceilings cancel Mario's movement unless there's a floor above them, so Mario would be unable to leave the Thwomp once he was up there.
My understanding is (based off what Carl himself said in this video): 1) it's a rom hack of a game, and Nintendo hasn't taken one of those down yet. 2) It's open source so as long as someone has a copy of the code and their is still an audience for it, I don't see how it can ever get deleted.
To be clear not only has Nintendo taken down a ROM hack they've taken down a site dedicated to ROM hacks even though they did not provide the ROMs for the games they were hacking.
I don't know the details of the situations you are referring to. Are both of the case you are talking about ones where the guy was trying to monetize the rom hack? Obviously they would take it down in that case. And if it wasn't, then that would mean there IS precedent for them taking rom hacks but that would also mean that there is a bajillion precedents of them leaving rom hacks alone (all the Super Mario World kaizo romhacks, many of which were popular enough to get played at events like SCGQ.

After a few hours in mario builder 64, I have created my magnum opus, and named it whomp suc probably my favorite thing about mario builder 64 is changing the boss theme to slider so that you can create areas where the music changes to the slider theme, such as the horrible anti I made that's required to beat the level. update: I have made an evil version that makes the anti far harder by raising the exit, removes all hints, gets rid of the recovery hearts, replaces all lava with quicksand so that if you fall you die, and makes the final jump require near-perfect timing or else you die. I will not be releasing it to the public, because it is not even remotely fun.
@@Brass319 The idea is to place a wood platform on a looping platform. At some point, make the looping platform go right under a tile. This will stop the wooden platform and make it fall on a red (or blue) switch, marking the end of the time limit. You then just have to use on/off blocks to prevent the level from being completed.
i love the fact that in super mario maker, you can opt to create hacks in their different styles, and it's no different with sm64, you can make hacks in it as well. so cool!
If you have pull with the community for features, should be able to effect the physics of parts. For instanced, if the trees were set to a "phased" position, you could use them as cover and not interact with them. Adding some bushes would be awesome as well.

I suggest using the wooden platforms jumping on the note blocks to clip the player into an upper section where they have to get back to the beginning to try again to go through the same section with the wooden platforms again. Could be great for a anti!
My biggest worry here is the music options. If the game provides those sound files instead of you providing the rom containing them like you are doing with the SM64 graphics then that could be a foothold for Nintendo to grab (in a legal sense.)

How can you not be? I feel like it would be different to do troll levels in SM64. I imagine the style of the trolls will be different. It really depends on if the level creators develop to the point where there are a lot of awesome trolls. One nice thing is that since this is a PC thing, presumably it's easier to access. And we don't have to worry about Nintindo deleting a level because it had yadayada glitch.

I'm scared of the idea of a Carl and SimpleFlips collab considering Simple's claim-to-fame in Mario Maker 2 was Desert Bus, a level where you had to make precise jumps while driving a Koopa car the entire time. He is no stranger to hot garbage.
