Unforgiven = I can't forgive them for what they've done
Unforgiven II = I can't forgive you for what you've done
Unforgiven III = I can't forgive myself
And that "you" in The Unforgiven II is his mom. James mentioned she in the lyrics and also the video shows the umbilical cord that maintains James connected to the stone that represents his mom's grave. Just an amazing visuals and lyrics!!! 🤘🏼🎶
unforgiven III is not as good as unforgiven I and II...because there is no Jason 😁
@@MkF3175 I don't agree my friend, but of course it's a matter of taste, it's subjective. I must say that I miss Jason because of his performances on stage, his charisma and his vocals. That's it!
Robert is a better bass player and he also contribute to the songs composition. Keep rocking my friend!!!!! 🤘🏼🎶
I feel like I'm in the minority but part 2 was always my favorite, and I can't pick which is better between 3 and 1
Thank goodness a sane person, Jason was badass for shit like Orion, but rob holds his own and it's good to have some new blood in the band to keep things fresh and heavy, this work on death magnetic was badass
It's 2022, it's time to admit that "Load" and "Re-Load" were fantastic albums. Not as heavy as the big 5, but they illustrate Metallica's ability to adapt to the times, to grow as musicians and people.
They absolutely weren't. Too clean sounding and it just doesn't have that same amazing song writing construction metallica was known for. I can accept hardwired to self destruct as a good modern metallica album though
Facts. I hated growing up hearing oh load sucks. I loved every album including St.Anger.
@@jakecarroll5 I bought st. Anger and listened to it til it no longer annoyed me lol. I gave it an honest chance, but still is my least favorite. Not horrible, just not an album I'll willingly listen to 🤷
The way I see it is the good songs off of Load and Reload are really good, if not great (even fantastic is some cases), but the bad ones, are pretty goddamn bad, cringey, or at best, extremely forgettable. If you take the best songs off of both albums (which is subjective) you'd have the perfect '90s Metallica album
Let's admit it. Not the best of Metallica. But it's like going through a gold mine. Not all of it's gonna be 18k. Load and Reload might only be 10k gold. But it's still gold.
Such an under-rated song.
Agreed. It was one of the first Metallica songs I heard and it's to this day one of my favorites of theirs
I agree it's my favorite out of the 3
Jane: “This kinda sounds like country.”
Me: “If you want to hear Metallica’s country-ish song, listen to “Mama Said” then”
Actually love that song.
@@jakecarroll5 It’s really good!
Or their cover of "Tuesdays Gone"
@@justahologram2230 Yup!
Mama Said is country AF
The lyrics describe an introverted guy who finally finds a girl that understands what it means to be lonely.
The "door" spoken of in the song is the guy's soul, and the girl is the only person who has ever been able to make it "crack open." She dies ("The door is closed, so are your eyes"), and he goes on waiting for death, alone again, because she was the only one with the "key" to his soul. I can almost relate to this song...I've yet to meet that girl.
I read this same exact comment on a website lol are you the guy or just copy and pasted it?
@@danieldemayo6209 Yup
Really?? Wow, so that's what this song was about. I got it eventually. Thanks, man! At last, I can die peacefully now. lol
I think the line "I take this key and I bury it in you, because you're unforgiven too" doesn't really imply that she just died but more specifically that he killed her, whether that be literally or metaphorically. I think burying the key represents him leaving the idea of what could have been (them being together) in her memory, knowing that now it won't happen (hence why it's buried) because he can't forgive her, just like the rest of the world.
Another great banger off the Reload album is "The Memory Remains". The video is a trip!
3 will not disappoint. I would say the general interpretation is that the original is about being resentful of being forced out of a normal childhood due to strict conformity, the second is growing and realizing others who love you have similar demons in their past lives. 3 is the recognition in understanding that going through life as resentful and bitter from childhood was a choice, in a sense coming to peace with that the person who kept him shackled with resentment was he himself.
Production is so ass in that album, it hurts.
@@Metalovai the whole idea of this music is to not be overproduction, its the songs that matter, and the songs are still good. If you happen to be talking about Reload, it has some missteps with songs, sure, sure but complaing about production is a bit contrived. If the music itself and the songs are not what is or a primary appeal to you, then your standards are off.
@@feardabrood I’m talking about DM. If you know, you know.
@@Metalovai I enjoyed that album a lot actually and maybe whatever production dissatisfaction you have with it is bothersome to your overly puritanical approach to music but for most people it's just great music and that's still more important. When someone says if you know you know, it just means they don't want to elaborate on their opinion they're just stuck in their ways.
@@feardabrood It’s fine that you don’t know.
You're not wrong, the Load and Re-Load albums were both filled with songs that had a country/rock vibe to them.
Yesss continuing on The Unforgiven trilogy, I'm here for it!
It’s very nice to see young people getting into music that I love and that was out probably before you were even born. I love it and please keep up the good work thank you.
Agreed!! Seems like yesterday when ReLoad came out, I was a sophomore in high school.
Luckily I had parents with good taste introduce me to Metallica and I'm so happy they did, metal is my favorite genre of all time now
Load and re-load shows their versatility. James is a great singer. The Tone , the powerful Tone.
... The door is closed, so are your eyes, but now I see the sun.
He managed to move through everything, he learned how to use the key. And he discovered that the others are struggling too, and suffering too, trying to move through. So, when he can see the Sun, he no longer need the key: "I'll take this key, and I bury it at you" - he goes through the opened door to the Sun, and leaves the key, so that the others could open that door to light. He could not go, holding that key.
And there's one more thing, very deep and complicated to understand. Last words "Never free, never me" - you are not you, but a person, who you suppose yourself to be. And you're not free, until you open you true self
The last few lines explains the meaning of the song He found someone he trusts and relates to after thinking he would never find love or someone who understands him.
He gave her the key to his heart "I take this key and I bury it in you, because you're unforgiven too" after he thought he
Lay beside me, tell me what they've done
Speak the words I wanna hear, to make my demons run
-
He meets a woman who had a similar childhood to him.
The door is locked now, but it's open if you're true
If you can understand the me, than I can understand the you
-
He has closed himself off from the world and is considering opening up for her, as long as she is “true” and not like the rest of the world.
Lay beside me, under wicked sky
The black of day, dark of night, we share this paralyze
-
He believes he has found someone he can open up to, that they can be two against the world.
The door cracks open, but there's no sun shining through
Black heart scarring darker still, but there's no sun shining through
No, there's no sun shining through
No, there's no sun shining...
-
Sunlight is symbolic of purity and safety. He opens the ‘door’ to his heart, but she betrays him like the rest of the world, being impure like the rest of the world. ‘Black heart scarring still’ is saying how when he thinks that he cannot have anything worse happen, it does.
Come lay beside me, this won't hurt I swear
„She loves me not, she loves me still“, but she'll never love again
She lay beside me, but she'll be there when I'm gone
Black heart scarring darker still, yes she'll be there when I'm gone
Yes, she'll be there when I'm gone
Dead sure she'll be there...
-
In a sudden rage, he kills her. He tries to justify it by saying that she never loved him, but he realized that she did love him even though she lied / cheated / whatever. The meaning of ‘She’ll be there when I’m gone’ is pretty obvious; he is saying that he’ll see her again in heaven / hell / afterlife.
Lay beside me, tell me what I've done
The door is closed, so are you're eyes
But now I see the sun, now I see the sun
Yes now I see IT.....
-
After killing her, he closes back up and sees the sun. He feels safe being alone and closed off from the world, the world is only there to hurt him.
I take this key (never free...) and I bury it (never me...) in you
-
Is symbolic of killing her for betraying him. He takes the key to his heart and buries it along with her.
Because you're unforgiven too....
-
Is referencing the first song. In the first song, he called everyone who wronged him “Unforgiven,” so now he says she is “Unforgiven too”, the same as the world, out there only to hurt him
This is probably the best break down of this song I have ever read. Having been raised on survival meeting and trusting people is very hard. When someone betrays you the thought of that person dies in your mind. My life long experience matches perfectly.
@@roberttest4250 I’m sorry to hear that your experience in life has been filled with so much pain. Unfortunately, putting trust in people and things of this world will almost always lead to letdowns and pain. That’s been my experience as well. I’m learning to focus my trust in God and maybe you can seek that as well. It really is the only true word that is fully trustworthy. Keep your head up brother, this life is short compared to eternity. There is so much more to look forward to once we pass the life long journey in this world.
To my recollection, James himself hasn't described what this song is about. The closest thing that I've been able to find is that it's very possible that it could be about Hetfield’s search for reason, truth, and love. Would also like to see more Iron Maiden reactions in the future. Number of The Beast" "Aces High" and "Wasted Years" are definitely worth checking out.
What a great interpretation of the song! 🍻
This is the best one of them imo :)
Absolute masterpiece!
Had to sub, love the Metallica reactions! Hope you will be exploring more heavy bands in the future.❤
He uses a Fender Telecaster with a B-Bender (look it up.on TH-cam). Gives a country feel to the clean rhythm guitar part.
Lyrically, the first song was directed at his oppressive father with the religous stuff... this one is directed at his first wife.
Song that made me sing for a while in my band
This song is very underrated
I love how they took a few of the lines from The Unforgiven I. It truly feels like a sequel.
There is a song from the previous album "Load" called "Mama Said" which sounds even more country.
One of the greatest songs that will ever be.
You said a country vibe, yes there are undertones of country and blues all throughout Load and ReLoad. And, also the fact James used a telecaster guitar with a b-bender in it for this song. Those guitars are known for their twangy sound, used alot in country music.
SUCH A BEAUTIFUL KILLER SONG!!!🤘 IT'S A MASTERPIECE AND A RELATIONSHIP SONG.🤘🎸🥁😎🙏🎶🎼💯
personally I liked this one more than the first unforgiven since I've never heard the second or third.
Cant wait for the third keep it up Lilly love your reactions❤
my favorite song
I love how different all three Unforgiven are.
Please, please do The God that Failed and Disposable Heros
😘
The first is great. This one’s pretty good. But the third one is my absolute favorite!
You're getting a country vibe because of the country style writing in the musicianship, no matter how mad fans get about either of us saying that, Lilly. :P
Disposable Heroes 🔥🤘🏼
I love your metallica reactions!!!
Love your comments your spot on love how you break down the song love this band need more you rock and are way cool love your hair too keep rocking
love unforgiven so much
huh! country vibe? very insightful of you.i hear it now.
I want I felt, I've what known‼️🌉
Can't wait for 3 to me the best one
You got a country vibe because Load and Reload have a lot of country vibes
She loves me not, she loves me still, but she'll never love again
She lay beside me, but she'll be there when I'm gone
Black heart scarring darker still, yes she'll be there when I'm gone
Yes, she'll be there when I'm gone
Dead sure she'll be there...
Lay beside me, tell me what I've done
The door is closed, so are your eyes
But now I see the sun, now I see the sun
Yes, now I see it
I think the song is about trying to open up to someone and they betray you so now the main character in the song has killed the girl. That's why there were snakes in the video. He's sure she'll be there when he's gone and her eyes are closed because she's dead.
I can't wait for your unforgiven 3 reaction. Its my personal favorite
James has said he was definitely going for a western feel with the Unforgiven songs
How is no one talking about the intro? It's like mix between Pink Floyd and Metallica 🔥🔥
Unforgiving 3 is my favorite
I don't know for certain, but I always thought that Kirk was using a "B bender Fender Telecaster " guitar during that "country" part when you mentioned that it sounded like country music. Please respond all you guitar nerds! For Lilly, a "B-bender" is a guitar that has a mechanism in the body of the guitar that is attached to the "B" string of the guitar. When you bend down the neck of the guitar while playing the "B" string it creates a pitch shift. Much like what a whammy bar would do. I never saw the point of it. A whammy bar (tremolo bar) or any number of effects pedals could give the same effect. Actually, now that I listen again, the b-bender is very useful when combining notes. I guess that's it's purpose.
Time for the final chapter as it comes full circle.
Unforgiven I: the verses are rough and the chorus is soft.
Unforgiven II: the verses are soft and the chorus is rough.
Loved load.and reload great albums
The Tone ,The Tone. Load and Re-load are great. I think he killed her.
JH used a Fender Telecaster wth a B bender for this song.
It's interesting to hear all three parts together, while reading the lyrics, a bit of a repetitive theme but it's what James wanted to talk about back then. And yes, it's Country Rock, something most Metalheads don't know much about, or don't like, because 90% of Metalheads don't like anything outside of Metal. That's why most Metalheads hate Metallica because they experimented with other musical styles and marketed themselves in the 90's by moving away from Thrash Metal, cutting their hair, becoming famous and making more money.
It's HIS story‼️
This song was on the Re-Load record. That record with the previous record, Load, had a mixture of hard rock, blues, and country.
Unforgiven III has more of the metal you'd be looking for in a Metallica song but revisits the tone of the first Unforgiven. I like this version, but it is my least favorite of the Unforgiven Trilogy.
Another song I would look into that is on the Reload record is Fuel.
Thank you for another Metallica reaction and keeping with "the Unforgiven" trilogy, they make beautiful music and there's no other band like this one 🖤🤘 #LillyJGang
Ha, i forgot! I had heard a couple theories...
Continue with metallica.
A lot of people criticized this song for the country sound, but I don’t think it was a bad thing.
Please be happy! ❤
Awesome reaction 👍
Lilly Jane, yes Load and Reload have different vibes than the rest of Metallica 's albums, but they are great music. Check out "Where the wild things are" from the same album Reload. It's kind of haunting. Great song.
Darlin' he's the unforgiven one.
Yes! A great song man, for your next reaction anything from "...And Justice for All" is killer, the tracks are pretty long but they never disappoint!
That's why there's UNFORGIVEN 3
James is from down south texas way, hence the country sound
You need to check out MAMA SAID off LOAD if you like the country experiments....Outstanding video.
Time for part 3..;)
This song is tough to interpret, some say that it’s about him not being able to forgive her, others say that it’s about them being perfect for each other because she’s unforgiven like him,I think It tells a story,it starts off with him thinking this relationship can’t work cus something about her reminds him of his past,of what others have done to him,so he views her as being unforgiven like them, but as time passes he realizes that the reason why she reminds him of that time,is because he sees himself at that time in her,he realizes that she’s been through the same shit as him,so it transitions from I can’t forgive you cus you’re like them to u have similar experiences to me you’re like me,you are also unforgiven.
He kills her. That's why she'll be there when he's gone.
Read the lyrics. He killed the girl.
“She loves me not, she loves me still, but she’ll never love again”
“The door is closed, so are her eyes”
“Black heart scarring darker still, but she’ll be there when I’m gone, dead sure she’ll be there”
YES! Someone else has the same interpretation I do. This is what I thought as well. "I take this key; and I BURY it in you...because you're unforgiven too."
@@LeeB41 Not really an interpretation. James has confirmed this in interviews.
load and re load were much maligned by many Metallica fans they got experimental with their sound so you got bluesy vibes alternative vibes and yes Country vibes too "mama said is almost a total Country song" but that experimentation proved to me their fearless approach to their music that I still love after nearly 40 years being a fan
Unforgiven: Blames the world. He is an angry and disappointed man.
Unforgiven 2: He is looking for someone to blame. Like a big shadow following him. So are you with me or are you unforgiven too?
Unforgiven 3: He understands that he was the one that caused trouble to the ones that loved him. He now blames himself for the things he said and done.
What others are saying. Listen to Mama Said by Metallica.
So little bit of info for you, the Creeping Death live in Moscow 1991 was to a crowd of 1.6 million people. I have been a fan since the late 80's. A good reaction video for you to do is a popular choice and can be found all over youtube is Jinjer- pisces live at Napalm records. Another good band to react to is Tool. These are all good rock bands and there is a LARGE list of bands you can react too. Enjoy!!!!
Load reload era does have some country aspects to it
It sounds country because he is playing a b bender guitar
This is a good song, but the unforgiven III is the best one, deeper.
Metal bands such as Guns N Roses that have songs with country vibes was pretty common.
After this trilogy you should visit megadeth because the lead singer dave mustaine had a role in the older metallica songs. If you do decide to check it out I would start with the "symphony of destruction"
Yeah, Load definitely has some country vibes mixed with metal and hard rock. Really good album, though (imo).
Hi lily, jump to the black album through the never song..very impressive track
Nothing else matters please!!!
Make a double reaction….”Disposable Heroes” followed by “”Damage Inc.”….it will blow you away 🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘
Hetfield is a huge southern rock guy
Great video
The Unforgiven 1 is abt his first years and his parents and abuse
The Unforgiven 2 is abt him starting to love someone and move on..
The Unforgiven 3 is abt his life after him being famous and rich and how that could ruins his life
sooooo
1 is abt society
2 abt gf
3 abt himself
Yeah, country vibes. Try ‘Mama Said’!!!!
Low man's lyric after unforgiven 3
This album was made after he got out of rehab
James struggles to forgive his people who neglected him‼️
HEAR TRAPED UNDER ICE WILL RIPPING IT AN RIDE THE LIGHTGHTENINING YOU WIL LIKE THE LYRICS LOVERMAN TOO
Can you PLEEEAAASSSEE react to Beth Hart's "Am i the one",live at Paradiso Amsterdam,2004?
Her vocals and stage presence will blow your mind!
And all the band too!For me,it's one of the greatest performances in the music industry ever.I'm telling you,you won't regret it.
This album made me think Metallica was heading for country music in the 90's. I liked it👍
Metallica - Turn the page is one of the best song for me, so i suggest you to do teaction
🐇
The sadness of this song is very suitable for Iran's current situation😔
Next react to jmara mahal kung pilipinas official music video thank you 🙏❤️🙏🙏❤️
Metallica doing something new .... James is kind of a country boy... old schools fans hated it.... but that's their issue ... unable to grow up
Great reaction could you react to billy idol cage or running from the ghost 👻
