I lived and played in the East Village from 1982-1989. My wife made some clothes that Iggy liked. I painted his home (half of an old gymnasium) and built him a sound proof room so he could play and write without disturbing his wife. Got to hang out with him, he was really cool.
Wow, that's cool! I saw Iggy Pop live in Mannheim on end of this years June. It was a great show and I sang with him on several songs and also with some Red Hot Chili Peppers songs, as they were headlining. Mars Volta played before them and I love all of those bands! 😊😇
I miss "this" NYC, when it had soul. Those were fruitful times filled with creativity and adventure. That landscape has become a giant, sterile frat party. A lifeless shell of itself. Guess all things must pass.
I lived on this block in 1993: I hit the roof when I saw this, because I walked by this very interview with Iggy walking down East 9th Street (how could I forget), I was hoping to see my much younger self walk by but I didn't make the cut. But the bakery (I used to play the NBA Jam game with neighborhood kids), Chico (I had a t-shirt of his),all of it is in this time capsule that brings so many memories back! It was still a little rough in '93, but it was also fun, relaxing and genuine.
I was buying shoes, that's me blabbing away, totally unaware that Iggy was doing a video. Ave C on Saturdays and Sundays was a big ole flea market of cool clothes and all kinds of shit. LES....RIP.
I'm childless, just like Mr Osterberg. I'm the one with shoes in my hand and shades on my head. A friend emailed me this video and asked if that was me. I never saw it until that day, and yep, it was me, on Ave C! Iggy lived at the Christadora, a beautiful old building that was pretty ritzy for the Lower East Side of NYC back then, and to a lot of the people who lived there, it stood for all of the gentrification that was going on at the time, but it's nothing compared to how bad it is now. Iggy was above reproach, of course. ;) Ave B is about his experience living there. Too bad this scene is only history...
+Doe Cavalera ___I take it your 'rebel' attitude towards a stopping police car has mellowed somewhat ? Bytheway ...Jim is not 'childless"....and is blessed with a son ,who takes care of his business.......
A really funny thing is that Iggy mentions 'Coffee and Cigarettes' in this video, and a lot of people probably searched for that while watching this. TH-cam started to notice that patern, so if you're watching this video and you type in 'coffee' the first thing you see is 'Coffee and Cigarettes'. That's really neat.
The documentary begins with the procession of the Lord of Miracles , also the first days of October will be held in Lima. Lasts the entire month of October. Greetings to everyone in America.
It's cool that he points out and appreciates stuff like those Chico walls. I bought a book of photographs those murals in the mid '90s in a London art gallery and would read it over and over, it seemed like another world at the time.
It's funny how he walks past the gutter punks and they don't even look up and realize who just passed by them. I got to see Iggy play live around the time of this interview and he was amazing. It is great to hear his take on various musicians like Ice T and the Dylan bootleg stuff.
This is a cool as iggy always does great great interview his life is an open book , hes always so nice & personable ,& always laughing and smiling i totally love this dude hes a sweetheart & very talented !& intelligent
21 years ago, Iggy Pop lived at the Christadora House, on the very block I live on, just around the corner. So all of these old scenes are taken on my block, 9th and 10th Streets Avenues B and C.
That guy who killed the Swiss woman, his girlfriend, was this dude named Daniel. I def remember him. My former neighborhood. I remember when Iggy lived in the Christodora House on Avenue B. This was the year he played the infamous gig at The Continental. Killer show!
Iggy probably couldn't pay for a lot of stuff until they used his music in commercial. Lust For Life I think. Then Passenger. Maybe more but fuck, if Iggy didn't pay his dues i don't know who did so, what I'm saying, is it's probably a habit. No more Consolation Prizes!
I saw Iggy way back in the early 80's in a Lexington KY. (best I remember) seemed like a highschool gym! One of my all time favorite live shows! Ig danced like he was hypnotizing chickens!! 💕🙂 Love that man!!
And people from the 70's and 80's said that NYC had more soul in that era than in the 90's. I think the neighborhoods change but NYC always has something going on somewhere. Brooklyn had the grit that the East Village lacked in the 2000's and maybe BK is becoming sterile now too with all the gentrification. Another hood will pick up the slack.
My last show at The Paradise I had to warm up Iggy Pop and I said oh no not Iggy I just read shit about him and never thought I'd be into his music yet here I am at the Paradise Club here in Boston and he was really interesting we got along well I offered to by him a drink he refused told me he was on the wagon. I don't know if he listened to my music or took a peak of my show! But from that day on I bought his music and really dig it . I had been booked each time he'd be booked I was happier the next time however , fans it's about gaining more and Iggys fans are a bit out there yet all have great good hearts . I'm really glad I had my Iggy days if I had to pick who I liked playing with better between Iggy and Aerosmith I would say Iggy anyday ! Every member the two utes LOL- hahahaha- one named Steve the other Joe the attitudes man pretty fked but it had also been when they had been into there drug payday they might actually be nice to work with now! Oh if The Channel dressing rooms could talk to bad the club is gone now it was a great place to play ! I really loved this interview you did a awesome job very casual and personal just how Iggy is down .
the 70s and 80s were the best days for LES and Alphabet City. Iggy is funny talking like he knows the hood. Not exactly an authority! But an interesting vid.

This is the most expansive and articulate i've seen iggy. He enriched my life no end, still does at 60
Check out his interviews on youtube, there are lots. He's always open, sincere, articulate, endearing. A very charming person.
LOVE 90s NYC. Such a magical place. This vid brings back such fantastic memories of the visceral, vibrant LES.
Damm Iggy is looking good and just walking talking about the love of NY how cool is that.
A really funny thing is that Iggy mentions 'Coffee and Cigarettes' in this video, and a lot of people probably searched for that while watching this. When I lived in NYC in early 80s I learned very quickly "don't carry cash". I still don't.
It's funny how he walks past the gutter punks and they don't even look up and realize who just passed by them. I got to see Iggy play live around the time of this interview and he was amazing. It is great to hear his take on various musicians like Ice T and the Dylan bootleg stuff.

ye, me too, and i have no idea why
i used to love the street sales down there . i lived on 7th and c back then . i chatted with iggy a couple of times .
I lived on that block in 1990. My bedroom window is visible at 3:00. I went to that bar (Vazac) and bakery (Pedro's) more than once.
STREET MARKET.. selling on the street
great upload..really appreciated this
This is great. Thanks for sharing.
The don't come more genuine as Iggy. Don't be fooled, this guy is extremely smart.
Lou Reed thought he was dumb, but I guess that was Lou's problem.
He's very smart. It's obvious every time he opens his mouth. 👋
He more recently did a great lecture on the present state of the music industry, well worth a look 👍

I've never been to New York, so I thoroughly enjoyed Ziggy's guided tour thru the city. Thanks, Ziggy!!!
Iggy never carries money. Most of the time when we had 2 am breakfast with my friends and I , he would never have money to pay the tab.
Correction: daniel rakowitz went to the "Psychedelic Church" only a few times, decided it wasn't for him and went on his dark way.

RIGHT ON. Could not have possibly said it better! I can't wait for the day that the City returns to some new incarnation of its glory.
Thanks for posting
and American Caesar is right up there in the top five Iggy records.
5:52 - "It's beautiful here" - walks passed 50 bags of rubbish on the pavement. Yeah Jim it's great. I love what they've done with the place.
Dammit, how I miss the 90's. I wish I was old enough to stroll through the area as much as I do these days...
It was the 2000s
lmao iggy forgot he doesn't carry money and gets the cameraman to pay for his food
Rockstars don't need to, they get things for free, the manager pays or some cameraman from my home country, haha.
I just watched an interview with the Doors' keyboardist, and he was saying the same thing about Iggy Pop, that he doesn't pay for anything.
