In his draft of the Declaration, TJ wrote "we hold these truths to be sacred and undeniable." It is believed that Franklin substituted "self evident."
Waiting to hear about how TJ fought...

Great Britain was not the most free country till the 1800s...it was the Netherlands...the American declaration of independence is practically a copy/paste of the Dutch 'plakkaat van verlatinghe'...their declaration of independence from Spanish rule...
So shameful Americans like this don't know the importance of the Dutch role in their fight for independence...it has cost them a lot of colony's....cause England declared war on them cause they refuse to uphold the trade embargo imposed by the British...they kept supplying arms to the French and Americans...

Likewise, most Americans (and Brits) do not know the Dutch influence on England in the 17th century, culminating the so-called "Glorious Revolution" in 1688/9, which installed the Prince of Orange on the throne with his English wife, Mary. Book recommendations: "1688" by S. Pinker. "Going Dutch" by L. Jardine. This was when the first Bill of Rights was written, and England adopted the Dutch model of political economy and deposed the French model of authoritarian, centralized political economy being imposed by James II.
