Been there. Don't want to scare you, but you will be almost as anxious as birth approaches with any additional children - Dad's worry. My kids make fun of my worries and cautions, and my pat response is "But you're still alive, aren't you?"
A Hail Mary to You & Yours. Rejoicing with you. You are never alone on this project. Bless your Baby and consecrate his or her constant care to St. Joseph and the Blessed Mother.

LOL...Depending on the size of the church, the heating costs during the winter can vary. Here in Canada in an average size church it cost about 10 thousand a month to heat the church in winter. It all depends on the parish donations to pay the bills.

The touching to the head and the wrapping of the amice while saying the prescribed prayer calls to mind when Jewish men do a similar motion with their tallit (prayer shawl) as they prepare for prayer. I can just picture our Lord doing the same as he prepared to pray in the temple. The link between Judaism and Catholicism is so beautiful!

The chasuble is made of a seamless garment, as an additional sign that the priest is alter Christi. The dalmatics worn by deacons have two seams going down the front (often covered with decoration these days).

Although basically all Church vestments are the same, but then you find a range of varieties from to time, and from one country to another. I’m publishing a weekly TH-cam video on episodes from the life of Don Bosco, entitled ST JOHN BOSCO by JOE ZAMMIT. In this series I’m narrating events and miracles from the splendid life of Don Bosco. St John Bosco used to perform a miracle almost every day, through the intercession of Mary Help of Christians. From the lives of saints we can learn how to love God more and draw closer to him. Thank you.

He was staying at a smart hotel somewhere for a conference, and when he went up to his room the first night he found it was twin-bedded.

In newtown, a very secular and promiscuous city in Sydney, there's a priest who stands by his Church always wearing a cassock. He's a fairly burly man as well, so the long black garment draping over his frame makes him stand out like a Lion amongst hyenas. All of the tiktok lgbtq affirming liberal girls and male girls quiver with fear at the sight of him.

I'm surprised you didn't show us the cope. It is a pity that Catholic priests don't seem to don copes any longer....though the Anglican priests often wear it for Evensong/Evening Prayer/Vespers/Compline.

    • @davidbraun6209
      @davidbraun6209 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

A purple cope and stole were de rigueur for the Great Vigil until near midnight, when, after the first half of the litany of the saints (after the OT readings) the sacred ministers returned to the priest's sacristy, the priest changed to full white Mass vestments and all returned from the sacristy to the sanctuary to do the Gloria in Excelsis, the Epistle, Gospel, homily, and the 2d half of the litany of the saints and the blessing of baptismal water, after which Mass resumed. (That was in the old rite.)

Seems to me that the cassock is traditionally the priest's street clothing -- not a vestment, per se. Therefore, a white cassock is not interchangeable with an alb, and even in tropical areas, an alb would still be required.

Interesting information on the stole when a priest (and I'm guessing a deacon) who is serving at Mass. Since I was raised with the EF, and while I accept the OF, any cleric including a cardinal (and should it occur a Pope) who was in the role of an acolyte, serving wears a simple cassock (color of his office) and surplus, but no other insignias of his office (except the episcopal ring, or if he has a doctorate in Theology that ring) no pectoral cross, or anything else. Clerics in choir (the space in the sanctuary, not necessarily singing the Propers and ordinary parts of the mass) would don the stole either from the start of the Mass, or during the Canon until after communion and reposing the Most Blessed Sacrament in the Tabernacle, depending on the local custom.
In the Byzantine Rite unlike the Latin Rite, a cleric does not sub for anyone else. So while in the EF a priest may take the role of a Deacon or Sub-Deacon for a Solemn High Mass. In the East if there is no deacon, then there is none and a priest or bishop in the absence of the deacon would sing those liturgical parts of the Liturgy as well as the censing. In the OF the Latin Rite has come back to this practice.
None are wrong, just different rubrics which have developed over the centuries. While I've yet to be asked to offer the OF, and have only offered the EF and Byzantine Rites, I do sometimes attend and assist at Diocesan functions like ordinations etc., and dress in Cassock Surplus and Stole, taking my place with other priests and deacons in the choir. In some of the older missions on American Indian Reservations in Arizona and New Mexico, where they still utilize the indults given to Spanish and Portuguese priests, I've been vested in Blue Vestments on feasts of our Lady.

Thanks for showing us the reasons for wearing the different vestments. I am catholic and still learning about things I never questioned. I really enjoy your show, God bless.

I've been waiting for this one! I know all those pieces of clothing must mean something, but don't feel right asking my priest to show me his wardrobe. :-) I feel like I've been missing out because I don't know what they mean. This was soooo interesting. Thank you so much for doing this! Now I know that my priest isn't just a clothes horse.

I was put off a bit at first with your choice of heavy metal music with your intro but glad I stuck it out to reap the many benefits of your podcasts. You give such fact filled instructional info for all Catholics to know details and traditions of our faith. Thank you.
I’m always looking forward to your next post.

Also, the amictus should be first touched to the top of the head before resting upon the shoulders, and it is done at the time the priest says "helm of salvation". And the stole should be worn crossed over the chest.

Eastern Catholic priests wear a different kind of chasuble. I forgot the name of it but it looks like a cape with a hood, and it has a gold fastener at the neck.

Well said! Thank you.
