Prior to 2008 The men had never won any more than two gold medals at a single Olympics. They had only won a total of seven in the history of the Olympics. The women had never won any. Then all of a sudden in 2008 the men and women started dominating. By 2016 the men's domination was over. Had it not been for all the cheating the United States would have been dominating for like 20 or 30 years straight. I'm sure the Jamaicans are working on their next overly juiced Usain Bolt. Shelly and Frazier Pryce is getting faster at age 36 after having a child. That's laughable.

      @Joe Bloggs you really have no idea about track and field in Jamaica do you?

    • @KenpoKid77
      @KenpoKid77 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @Joe Bloggs You mention the rest of the world, but the rest of the track & field world knows about Jamaica's history very well. They've been competitive since 1948. Only USA has more total track medals. Average runner in Jamaica starts running in kindergarten, while the average American runner starts in high school. The Jamaican runner you see winning Olympics and Worlds events were the high schoolers who used to dominate against America in high school meets like Penn Relays in years past People in Europe knew about Usain Bolt's greatness since he was 16, while the U.S. casual viewers only started paying attention when they started losing to him the Olympics.
      In other words, a Jamaican sprinter testing positive for drugs would have made international news. The size of a country and its population has nothing to do with this. US lost in skateboarding to a 13-year old from Japan, another small island...so was he doping too?

  • @kidproduction6720

    When you don’t realize he was in a bad shape, bad enough for him to say he’s not running the 200 and still get top 3 on the 100, is incredible. This race won’t affect his legacy

    • @cerebra2276
      @cerebra2276 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Personally, I think it was positive for his legacy, because it doesn't leave much room for doubt about his (early-ish) retirement. People would have said "why did Bolt retire after 2016", "he won every major final he set foot in since 2008", "he could easily win gold in 2020" etc. etc., and there'd always be a lingering doubt. It took a Bronze medal (and a slow finish for all athletes involved) to signify to the world that Bolt was ready for retirement, and no longer in his prime.
      It's just a natural stage of life for an athlete, especially given his unique build, his body's way of responding to injury, and his faltering motivation to keep going for the sake of extending his record streak. Bolt's legacy in athletics was already unbeatable before this 100m final in 2017. Until his world records are beaten or his 3x Olympic double is matched by another athlete, he will continue to be the most dominant sprinter of all time.

But to me what is more important than his win is the fact that he never gave up. And as a Jamaican I truly respect that!
    In the grand scheme of things Bolt did not lose. He STILL holds all the world records, he STILL has 19 GOLD medals and he STILL is the FASTEST man!! His legacy is certified. He is a true legend. I hope he enjoys his well deserved retirement.

    I think what is perfectly clear here is that the Media and the general public have absolutely no idea what it takes to be an athlete of this level in terms of mental and emotional strength. The assumption seems to be that two fierce competitors on the track can't have a professional and courteous relationship off the track. Clearly, Bolt and Gatlin talk and discuss issues behind the scenes. They are obviously on the same page n a way the press isn't expecting, as is evident from the way they interact with each other in this interview. The press seems to expect that they must hate each other. These two grown men are obviously more mature and professional than they are given credit for.

      Notice how they tried hard to drive a wedge between Bolt and Gatlin. That didn’t work. They tried painting Gatlin as the “bad boy”. He stopped the reporter in his tracks. Then one woman had the audacity to accuse the entire sport of doping. I was happy to see Bolt summarily shut her down, but I wish he had given a much stronger denunciation.

They will tell you exactly how they feel if you ask them a question, which I find very refreshing. Americans on the other hand usually take "the high road" to avoid any controversy which is a smart move but it's no fun to listen to.
