When you talked about people thinking romance readers taste in their romances equals their taste in real life I had to laugh because I don’t even like men but my romance taste would say otherwise 😂
Same, I'm aromantic so I don't even want a relationship with anyone, and I'm also demi grey ace... but I like to experience both of those things in fiction. That are things that I like or I'm ok in fiction but irl is a big NO. And I 'm not talking obvious things like murder, but kinky things.
As a romance reader i read things that i wouldn’t necessarily want to have in my real life! I love taboo romances but i would never want to actually have a taboo relationship. 🤣
I've read monster and paranormal romances and I can admit, I've never wanted to be with a monster irl (if they were real at least). So I agree with this statement 😂
As much as I liked Chloe Brown's book the first time I read it, once I read the other two books in the Brown trilogy I never went back lol. Each book gets better (3rd is best imo) :)
YES FINALLY SOMEONE SAID SOMETHING ABOUT THE BROWN SERIES SMUT. I’ve only read Eve Brown and was honestly appalled lmao. Especially since everyone talking about it were like “Omg it’s so cute and wholesome” apparently we just have different definitions of cute??😂😭
gotdamn we're getting so much content 🙌 so excited to get home and binge these romance reading episodes while i tackle an embarrassingly large pile of laundry
I pass ABSOLUTELY no judgement on the romance that people read. Things can be super harmful and toxic in real life, but just *chefs kiss* in romance books. But I also separate traditional romance from smut. And there’s NOTHING wrong with enjoying *questionable* smut 😂😂
Never thought I’d see you read a Mariana Zapata, but I’m here for it! I love Wall of Winnipeg and Me, but I feel like you’d maybe enjoy All Rhodes Lead Here (there’s hiking 😂) or if you’re feeling more sporty vibes From Lukov with Love or Kulti are both good picks!
I appreciate how transparent you were about the weight shaming in The Wall of Winnipeg and Me. I have seen and experienced the same thing in too many books ive read.
This might seem crazy but I kind of want to see when you read all these books. Kind of like a timeline for each of the romance books. I think it would be fun to see how it all went down through the year because you definitely switch from different challenges.
Book Lovers was amazing, and I hope you love that one. The banter is fantastic. I know some people were disappointed in that one, but I was not one of them.
I can’t explain why, but the videos where you get recommendations from professionals are ALWAYS favorites of mine! I love watching to see what they might pick for you. It is so fun and interesting! So glad you did it for this romance series. ❤
Kayla every time you talk about the sex scene in a book I find it the funniest thing ever thank you so much. Also: I was playing Typeracer today and I remembered that years ago a passage in Typeracer (the passages are usually from books or songs users upload to the site) singlehandedly made me pick up The Goldfinch. Anyway, I thought that would be a fun way to pick a tbr since you're not told from what book the passage is from until you're done typing, and sometimes I'll type the most gorgeous sentence ever and it's from somewhere totally unexpected.
I love to read monster/ creature romance! I.e. Ice Planet Barbarians, The Dragon’s Bride 😂 the weirder the better and personally I’m sure people are very concerned about me and my preferences when I share them. 😅 but honestly that’s just none of their business, and whyyyyy I’m into creature smut is between me and my therapist.
On a previous episode of this series you talked about how you like it when they have a goal outside of the relationship and that is why I think all my fave romantic plotlines have been in non-romance genres. Watching you explore this genre though has been fascinating and it is making me consider branching out. You have made me incredibly interested in Honey and Spice though so I'm going to be reserving that from my local library.
I didn't really like Get a Life, Chloe Brown but the other two books in the series are absolute favourites of mine, so I hope you end up enjoying Eve Brown! Loving this video series 😀
hahahah "How do you look each other in the eye?" Girl, we have a whole book club where we read nothing but spicy romances (usually with the cutesy illustrated covers) and then talk about it over wine every month 🤣
I identify as asexual but read mainly romance, so sometimes I might read about a hero that I would find aesthetically, emotionally or romantically attractive in real life, but most of the time it's more reading for the fantasy of it. Sure, some parts might be appealing in theory, but I don't have to see the relationship as something I "want". For example, I loooove reading about smut, but that isn't something I'm attracted to in reality (I more find it fascinating to explore that aspect of relationships without it being *me* actually exploring it lol). I also love reading about monster and alien heroes, but idk how I'd feel if that minotaur or purple-skinned alien showed up in my doorstep in real life XD
I'm so so late to this video, but I loved it. I also gave Chloe and Kiss Quotient 2 stars. I continued with both series and it never got any better lol. I also am obsessed with Honey & Spice. 5 stars. Didn't want it to end. 🧡
This is such a fun series. I think the only way I can enjoy romance books is vicariously through someone else who doesn’t enjoy romance books?? This is great ❤
I love that you mentioned seeing "which video wins" because I'm expecting all the statistics, pie charts, and tier ranking things at the end of this week!
This is definitely the one I’ve been most excited for. Also for me personally I definitely read what I’m into; ie soft and nice boys/relationships haha.
The pig sweets we have them here in the UK, we call them Percy Pigs and you can get them from a store called M&S, and there are so many varieties and they’re sooooo good 🤤
Love this series! This video made me realize I prefer books that more more romance-heavy than spice heavy. I liked Chloe brown and the kiss quotient but I felt like it skewed more towards smut than getting me invested in their relationship. 🤔 you’ve also convinced me to finally pick up honey & spice, I love the author and can’t believe I haven’t read it yet!
Ohmygod I want you to try Nalini Singh so bad!! The covers are so corny (that one is like the least corny lol) but her books are so good! Smutty romance with great plot and action and regardless of relationship dynamics, consent is forefront in them all.
for the romances i read they aren’t always things i want in my love life, i actually dislike a lot of things that i do prefer. like i HATE friends to lovers in books but irl i’ve fell in love with like half of my friends.
My favourite romance of the year is The Charm Offensive by Alison Cochrun. It's M/M about a man who works on a show kinda like the Bachelor and has just been dumped, and the guy who the show casts as their Prince who has just been fired from his job. I'm bad at descriptions and don't think you'll like it because of the famous people factor, I just really loved it 😅
There are also rabbits from the brand you have the pigs from and I think they're even better (but they are very similar). They're called Grün-Ohr Hasen. But you're right the pigs are awesome :D
Honey & Spice has officially moved up on my tbr after this!! If you do revisit these authors I personally think you could possibly enjoy Take a Hint, Dani Brown because it's got fake dating and I think you might like their dynamic more. For MZ probably All Rhodes Lead here it's got hiking, a single dad, forced proximity, and a bit of a mystery side plot so it's not entirely romance focused. As far as for tomorrow I really hope you will like Part of Your World because I could see you enjoying it (plus dual pov) and Daniel is a sweetheart, but maybe you will get frustrated with Alexis not communicating. Also, maybe Book Lovers. I don't think you will like Love on the Brain or Hook, Line, and Sinker. I haven't read The Bodyguard but from what I'm heard it could be a good fit too. I love this series and your openness to trying so many different romances
The way I‘m impatiently waiting for a new video in this series every day… I‘m really loving it. And I‘m not even interested in Romance books. I just love this whole project, all the different parts of it, the thoughts that went I to this. I can’t wait for tomorrow‘s video obviously and I‘ve never been more happy to already be a community member than when you announced that spoilers video. I‘m so ready for it. 😁 (I would also love your thoughts on Nalini Singh some day. I‘m enjoying her mystery thrillers so much but since I‘m not into romance I‘m not interested in her romance series although everyone seems to be enjoying them a lot.)
I hope you enjoy Book Lovers because it has the banter from Beach Read that you liked and it also deals with people who work in the publishing industry so I think you'll like that aspect as well as it deals with books and book lovers 😄 I definitely think you won't like Love on the Brain so much because Ali Hazelwood is BIG on the "i'm so small and tiny, even though i'm tall" fmc because the mmc is "so big and huge and tall". I can't wait to see tomorrows video! I read 4 out of the 8 books so I really want to hear your thoughts! I'm enjoying this series of videos!
What I want in real life and what I read are absolutely two different things, especially because I read everything 👀 and some of it is truly unhinged. But I like reading pretty much everything, not just in romance, but across all genres. I look at it like a little adventure to find my next favourite read.
I do love a good love affair between Kayla and any floaty, but aren't we all? Also here for you calling out the heathens. Really excited for the Goodreads challenge video!
love and color is a fave of mine from this year, so I've been looking forward to honey & spice, glad you loved it! also for what it's worth, I hadn't picked up a helen hoang book for a few years even though people were loving the series, but when the heart principle came out, a bunch of romance readers were complaining that it was too real-world involved and not steamy enough, which is what convinced me to pick it up haha
I absolutely adore the Kiss Quotient series but I kinda expected your reaction on the first book. I love the next books so much and imo so much better than The Kiss Quotient. But then again I loved the next 2 books in the series cause they were very relatable and they resonated with me so much, so they’re really personal reasons 😂
I feel like From Lukov with Love (sports romance, enemies to lovers) and All Rhodes Lead Here (there is hiking, also forced proximity!) by Mariana Zapata would be more suited for your tastes. I gave both of these 5 stars. I gave The Wall of Winnipeg and Me 3 stars.
I loved Chloe Brown, a big part for me was the Fibromyalgia rep. This was the first book I'd read with fibro rep & the book where i felt so seen & understood. Definitely give the other 2 a go they're so good! Really enjoying this romance series Kayla, looking forward to the others 💜
Let me tell you I am not a romance reader, I don't have any real desire to pick up romance... but your enthusiasm and love for Honey & Spice is making me want to pick it up and change that.
Fav to read vs real life preferences: I think when you are talking to other romance readers we understand that fav tropes does not necessarily equal real life. But, with others I normally tell about the plot and not to tropes so I dont give the wrong impression
Phew you liked Honey and Spice! I was so nervous because I love that book. It's fantastic on audio! Now I can be nervous all over again for your thoughts on Part of Your World 😂
I was so excited to hear your thoughts on Chloe Brown. I also didn't love it. Think I gave it a 2.5 or 3 stars but I do wanna give the other sisters a shot. Also I ran to my shelf to see what scene you were reading and called us heathens 😂
I think this was my favorite episode so far! And I totally support a video having something to do with Reese's book club, there are a lot of great pics from them 🥰
Early instant click yay can’t wait hope you love get a life Chloe brown. I adored it. I am loving and living for this romance series ❤ Edit: aw no. I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy it. But I do recommend trying out take a hint Dani Brown and act your age Eve brown (Eve brown is particularly explicit)
I’d say that romance people don’t feel too weird about talking about the tropes they like bc usually if you’re deep in the romance sphere you read such a variety of weird stuff that it’s hard to be too ashamed about anything lol
Was waiting for this specific video all week and it definitely paid off as I have a new book to add to my tbr that was your 5 star read! Can’t wait for tomorrow’s video!
Really appreciated your thoughts on the kiss quotient! Consent is a must for me in romance haha! And it’s also the reviews where I can be the more ….intense with 😂i have love in colour too on my tbr !
The love interests I love in books often don’t align at all with my actual dating preferences! Lmao that’s so interesting and I’ve never thought about it like that before.
How can you remember something you discussed in a video from 2016 when I can't remember why I walked into a room?! 😅 Enjoying your analysis of what you do and don't like in romance. The tropes I read are not tropes I would want in real life.
Excuse me Fred Ferkel are a CLASSIC. If you like those, you might also like Grün-Ohr-Hasen (green-eared bunnies. Yes, bunnies!). Not sure if you can get them in Canada but they are EXCELLENT.
Lol mood
Lolz I thought almost exactly the same thing!! I’m not interested in women, but if you saw my kindle TBR you’d be calling BS!😂😂😂
Yeah, sometimes I feel like I'm reading wish fulfillment romance for somebody elses wishes 😂
You don't want to date a man, and then leave him for his father haha!? 🤣🤣🤣
Did anyone else laugh and feel called out when Kayla said is this what you Heathens have been reading and how we look each other in the eye ? 😂😂
Lmao!!! And then I started thinking… “wait until she gets to Eve Brown” 🤭
That made me laugh so hard
I laughed out loud because Get A Life, Chloe Brown is the only book I‘ve read out of this whole series so far 😂
I’m honestly cracking up so much at this moment in the clip 😂😂 I’ve rewinded it 5 times😂
LOOOOOOL yes. Kayla, we then recommend said book to all our friends. It's the romance way.
24:50 seeing Kayla realizing the deception of some of the romances with cute cartoony cover 😂 « you HEATHENS »
If you didn't like constant descriptions of how big and strong the male love interest is then Ali Hazelwood is probably not for you haha
100% my first thought too 😂
I was thinking the same thing!
THIS i have had to give up on her bc of the same thing. Also Tessa Bailey
24:53 😂 I wasn’t prepared to be called out like this
As a romance reader i read things that i wouldn’t necessarily want to have in my real life! I love taboo romances but i would never want to actually have a taboo relationship. 🤣
Nervous for you to read Wall of Winnipeg. I love book!
@@bookbarr-melissa wall of Winnipeg is one of my favs. One of the few books I reread
I definitely agree! And Kayla, the audiobook narrator changes in the second and third books and is so much better!
Now I want to read Honey & Spice! And getting a romance rec from you feels like an achievement unlocked 😆
I was so hoping that tomorrows video would be “My Husband Chooses My Romance Books” lol
jotting this down for 2023
gotdamn we're getting so much content 🙌 so excited to get home and binge these romance reading episodes while i tackle an embarrassingly large pile of laundry
I pass ABSOLUTELY no judgement on the romance that people read. Things can be super harmful and toxic in real life, but just *chefs kiss* in romance books. But I also separate traditional romance from smut. And there’s NOTHING wrong with enjoying *questionable* smut 😂😂
24:50 will go down in history as one of my favourite Kayla clips. I feel so called out.

From Lukov with Love for sure!
I appreciate how transparent you were about the weight shaming in The Wall of Winnipeg and Me. I have seen and experienced the same thing in too many books ive read.
This might seem crazy but I kind of want to see when you read all these books. Kind of like a timeline for each of the romance books. I think it would be fun to see how it all went down through the year because you definitely switch from different challenges.
yes I need this
Yes! I want to see how things went chronilogically afterward!
Okay I'll add this to the spoilers members video!! 🙌
Book Lovers was amazing, and I hope you love that one. The banter is fantastic. I know some people were disappointed in that one, but I was not one of them.
Omg the heart cutout in Kayla’s shirt in the first clip 💕💕💕
I can’t explain why, but the videos where you get recommendations from professionals are ALWAYS favorites of mine! I love watching to see what they might pick for you. It is so fun and interesting! So glad you did it for this romance series. ❤

It’s because they’re the best books to read😀😂
Kayla’s top from the beginning of the video is the cutest thing i have ever seen
On a previous episode of this series you talked about how you like it when they have a goal outside of the relationship and that is why I think all my fave romantic plotlines have been in non-romance genres. This did not go how I expected! Kiss quotient and brown sisters series are so beloved, I am so surprised
"This is what you HEATHENS! have been reading?!" 🤣
I'm so so late to this video, but I loved it. I also gave Chloe and Kiss Quotient 2 stars. I continued with both series and it never got any better lol. I also am obsessed with Honey & Spice. 5 stars. Didn't want it to end. 🧡
I am so absolutely obsessed with that pink top with the heart cut-out! Absolutely precious and lovely!
I love the change of seasons throughout these vlogs haha it’s so entertaining! Also I’ve never even heard of Honey & Spice but now I’m like whaaat 👀
you commenting on the "he's sooo big and strong" is so relatable
Lol I'm loving scandalised Kayla! Also the pink beanie plus braids is A LOOK, so cute!
This is such a fun series. I think the only way I can enjoy romance books is vicariously through someone else who doesn’t enjoy romance books?? This is great ❤
I love reliving summer and autumn through these vlogs!☀️⛱️🍂🍁
Pretty much an issue you have is something I have, which has me hopeful that I too will love some of the books you enjoy! Been loving this series
Come on honey & spice pull through, I’m rooting for youuuu ! 👐🏽♥️😭
Any recs? :)
Same 😂
The pig sweets we have them here in the UK, we call them Percy Pigs and you can get them from a store called M&S, and there are so many varieties and they’re sooooo good 🤤
The braids in the thumbnail are so good!
The cut after the "no notes" had me dying. Bestie, is ok to talk about everything in the romance community.
Absolutely slammed the Want to Read button once u started describing Honey & Spice
oh i think youll LOVE book lovers! very excited to hear ur thoughts on love on the brain, i love ali!
i love this romance journey so much. it's so nice to watch these videos with my morning coffee.
Stop absolutely everything, you're pink heart top is the CUTEST.
for the romances i read they aren’t always things i want in my love life, i actually dislike a lot of things that i do prefer. like i HATE friends to lovers in books but irl i’ve fell in love with like half of my friends.
My favourite romance of the year is The Charm Offensive by Alison Cochrun. It's M/M about a man who works on a show kinda like the Bachelor and has just been dumped, and the guy who the show casts as their Prince who has just been fired from his job. I'm bad at descriptions and don't think you'll like it because of the famous people factor, I just really loved it 😅
I get so excited with these notifs. Can't wait to see what you think about these recs. 🙌 Also, I love your pink top in the intro!
In other news, that pink shirt with the heart cut out looks absolutely gorgeous on you!!
agreed!!
living for this video series!! also that pink shirt looove
There are also rabbits from the brand you have the pigs from and I think they're even better (but they are very similar). They're called Grün-Ohr Hasen. But you're right the pigs are awesome :D
Definitely true! Recently they did these two with only 1/3 of the original amount of sugar...don't buy those...only the originals are good😅
THE SHIRT WITH THE LITTLE HEART 🥰🥹
I am LOVING this series!
Your reaction to Chloe Brown was exactly mine lol. Everyone who recommends that book series is like "awww it's so cute!" so I expected cute 🤣
I love this series so much. Everything about it, the sneak, the romance, the scope 😁
Currently PRAYING you love Part of Your World. Lol. It's one of my favorite books of the year. Also, you have me very excited for Honey and Spice!
The way I‘m impatiently waiting for a new video in this series every day… I‘m really loving it. And I‘m not even interested in Romance books. The heart top is the cutest top for this 🥹
I love how we all just decided we're now romance girlies. I love watching this!
this week has been so so fun i love this series!! you are such a mastermind planning these out i swear
So glad you loved Honey & Spice. I read it this month and gave it 5 stars too!
OMG, I related to Kayla so much. I am also a non-romance reader and when i read Dani Brown the first time, i had the same thoughts as her.
So cool to see the different hair color
kayla in her romance era 😂love it
I hope you enjoy Book Lovers because it has the banter from Beach Read that you liked and it also deals with people who work in the publishing industry so I think you'll like that aspect as well as it deals with books and book lovers 😄
I definitely think you won't like Love on the Brain so much because Ali Hazelwood is BIG on the "i'm so small and tiny, even though i'm tall" fmc because the mmc is "so big and huge and tall". I can't wait to see tomorrows video! I read 4 out of the 8 books so I really want to hear your thoughts! I'm enjoying this series of videos!

Yes. Love in Color is one of my favourite books ! 💛 and I don’t enjoy romance that much but I loved that
I'm loving this series so much!
I'm so excited for tomorrow's video! Some really good picks I'm hoping you'll like. Book Lovers is definitely a favorite of mine
GASPED when you held up book lovers at the end bc im reading that rn (as someone who also rarely reads romance!). twins
thank you for this series! it’s been so fun to have something to loo forward too!
I loved Chloe Brown, a big part for me was the Fibromyalgia rep. This was the first book I'd read with fibro rep & the book where i felt so seen & understood. Definitely give the other 2 a go they're so good! Really enjoying this romance series Kayla, looking forward to the others 💜

wow we actually agree on Chloe Brown! I'm shook haha doesn't happen often 👀
I loved Dani Brown though! it has so much more substance in my opinion
also okay LOVE that neon pink beanie on you!

I’d say that romance people don’t feel too weird about talking about the tropes they like bc usually if you’re deep in the romance sphere you read such a variety of weird stuff that it’s hard to be too ashamed about anything lol

ok I don't read romance but Honey and Spice is possibly the prettiest book ever??
How can you remember something you discussed in a video from 2016 when I can't remember why I walked into a room?! 😅
Enjoying your analysis of what you do and don't like in romance.
I didn't care for Get A Life Chloe Brown either but loved the second and really enioyed the third. Definitely go on!
I have Honey and Spice out from the library right now and this is making me even more excited to pick it up!
