When you talked about people thinking romance readers taste in their romances equals their taste in real life I had to laugh because I don’t even like men but my romance taste would say otherwise 😂
Same, I'm aromantic so I don't even want a relationship with anyone, and I'm also demi grey ace... but I like to experience both of those things in fiction.
That are things that I like or I'm ok in fiction but irl is a big NO. And I 'm not talking obvious things like murder, but kinky things.

As much as I liked Chloe Brown's book the first time I read it, once I read the other two books in the Brown trilogy I never went back lol. Each book gets better (3rd is best imo) :)

I pass ABSOLUTELY no judgement on the romance that people read. Things can be super harmful and toxic in real life, but just *chefs kiss* in romance books. But I also separate traditional romance from smut. And there’s NOTHING wrong with enjoying *questionable* smut 😂😂

Book Lovers was amazing, and I hope you love that one. The banter is fantastic. I know some people were disappointed in that one, but I was not one of them.

Kayla every time you talk about the sex scene in a book I find it the funniest thing ever thank you so much.
Also: I was playing Typeracer today and I remembered that years ago a passage in Typeracer (the passages are usually from books or songs users upload to the site) singlehandedly made me pick up The Goldfinch. Anyway, I thought that would be a fun way to pick a tbr since you're not told from what book the passage is from until you're done typing, and sometimes I'll type the most gorgeous sentence ever and it's from somewhere totally unexpected.

On a previous episode of this series you talked about how you like it when they have a goal outside of the relationship and that is why I think all my fave romantic plotlines have been in non-romance genres. Watching you explore this genre though has been fascinating and it is making me consider branching out. You have made me incredibly interested in Honey and Spice though so I'm going to be reserving that from my local library.
I love to read monster/ creature romance! I.e. Ice Planet Barbarians, The Dragon’s Bride 😂 the weirder the better and personally I’m sure people are very concerned about me and my preferences when I share them. 😅 but honestly that’s just none of their business, and whyyyyy I’m into creature smut is between me and my therapist.
It’s because they’re the best books to read😀😂
I identify as asexual but read mainly romance, so sometimes I might read about a hero that I would find aesthetically, emotionally or romantically attractive in real life, but most of the time it's more reading for the fantasy of it. Sure, some parts might be appealing in theory, but I don't have to see the relationship as something I "want". For example, I loooove reading about smut, but that isn't something I'm attracted to in reality (I more find it fascinating to explore that aspect of relationships without it being *me* actually exploring it lol). I also love reading about monster and alien heroes, but idk how I'd feel if that minotaur or purple-skinned alien showed up in my doorstep in real life XD
hahahah "How do you look each other in the eye?" Girl, we have a whole book club where we read nothing but spicy romances (usually with the cutesy illustrated covers) and then talk about it over wine every month 🤣
I'm so so late to this video, but I loved it. I also gave Chloe and Kiss Quotient 2 stars. I continued with both series and it never got any better lol. I also am obsessed with Honey & Spice. 5 stars. Didn't want it to end. 🧡

Ohmygod I want you to try Nalini Singh so bad!! The covers are so corny (that one is like the least corny lol) but her books are so good! Smutty romance with great plot and action and regardless of relationship dynamics, consent is forefront in them all.

My favourite romance of the year is The Charm Offensive by Alison Cochrun. It's M/M about a man who works on a show kinda like the Bachelor and has just been dumped, and the guy who the show casts as their Prince who has just been fired from his job. I'm bad at descriptions and don't think you'll like it because of the famous people factor, I just really loved it 😅

The pig sweets we have them here in the UK, we call them Percy Pigs and you can get them from a store called M&S, and there are so many varieties and they’re sooooo good 🤤

I feel like From Lukov with Love (sports romance, enemies to lovers) and All Rhodes Lead Here (there is hiking, also forced proximity!) by Mariana Zapata would be more suited for your tastes. I gave both of these 5 stars. I gave The Wall of Winnipeg and Me 3 stars.
for the romances i read they aren’t always things i want in my love life, i actually dislike a lot of things that i do prefer. like i HATE friends to lovers in books but irl i’ve fell in love with like half of my friends.

Honey & Spice has officially moved up on my tbr after this!! If you do revisit these authors I personally think you could possibly enjoy Take a Hint, Dani Brown because it's got fake dating and I think you might like their dynamic more. For MZ probably All Rhodes Lead here it's got hiking, a single dad, forced proximity, and a bit of a mystery side plot so it's not entirely romance focused.
As far as for tomorrow I really hope you will like Part of Your World because I could see you enjoying it (plus dual pov) and Daniel is a sweetheart, but maybe you will get frustrated with Alexis not communicating. Also, maybe Book Lovers. I don't think you will like Love on the Brain or Hook, Line, and Sinker. I haven't read The Bodyguard but from what I'm heard it could be a good fit too. I love this series and your openness to trying so many different romances
I hope you enjoy Book Lovers because it has the banter from Beach Read that you liked and it also deals with people who work in the publishing industry so I think you'll like that aspect as well as it deals with books and book lovers 😄
I definitely think you won't like Love on the Brain so much because Ali Hazelwood is BIG on the "i'm so small and tiny, even though i'm tall" fmc because the mmc is "so big and huge and tall". I can't wait to see tomorrows video! I read 4 out of the 8 books so I really want to hear your thoughts! I'm enjoying this series of videos!
Love this series! This video made me realize I prefer books that more more romance-heavy than spice heavy. I liked Chloe brown and the kiss quotient but I felt like it skewed more towards smut than getting me invested in their relationship. 🤔 you’ve also convinced me to finally pick up honey & spice, I love the author and can’t believe I haven’t read it yet!

Let me tell you I am not a romance reader, I don't have any real desire to pick up romance... but your enthusiasm and love for Honey & Spice is making me want to pick it up and change that.
I’d say that romance people don’t feel too weird about talking about the tropes they like bc usually if you’re deep in the romance sphere you read such a variety of weird stuff that it’s hard to be too ashamed about anything lol
What I want in real life and what I read are absolutely two different things, especially because I read everything 👀 and some of it is truly unhinged. But I like reading pretty much everything, not just in romance, but across all genres. I look at it like a little adventure to find my next favourite read.
I absolutely adore the Kiss Quotient series but I kinda expected your reaction on the first book. I love the next books so much and imo so much better than The Kiss Quotient. But then again I loved the next 2 books in the series cause they were very relatable and they resonated with me so much, so they’re really personal reasons 😂
Currently PRAYING you love Part of Your World. Lol. It's one of my favorite books of the year. Also, you have me very excited for Honey and Spice!

Fav to read vs real life preferences: I think when you are talking to other romance readers we understand that fav tropes does not necessarily equal real life. But, with others I normally tell about the plot and not to tropes so I dont give the wrong impression
The way I‘m impatiently waiting for a new video in this series every day… I‘m really loving it. And I‘m not even interested in Romance books. I just love this whole project, all the different parts of it, the thoughts that went I to this. love and color is a fave of mine from this year, so I've been looking forward to honey & spice, glad you loved it! also for what it's worth, I hadn't picked up a helen hoang book for a few years even though people were loving the series, but when the heart principle came out, a bunch of romance readers were complaining that it was too real-world involved and not steamy enough, which is what convinced me to pick it up haha
Have you tried Beth O’Leary? I wouldn’t recommend the road trip but her other three are great. Closed door romance so no awkward scenes and romance I’d say is second or tied with plot.

I loved Chloe Brown, a big part for me was the Fibromyalgia rep. This was the first book I'd read with fibro rep & the book where i felt so seen & understood. Definitely give the other 2 a go they're so good! Really enjoying this romance series Kayla, looking forward to the others 💜
Hi Kayla, great video :)! I'm surprised none of the services gave you any suspense romance when you mentioned enjoying thrillers, kinda weird they only gave you contemporaries (except for Angels Blood, which is a fantastic urban fantasy/paranormal romance that many authors such as Katee Roberts and SJM credit as being influential). If you'd like an action packed, tense thriller romance, I'd recommend Whiteout by Adriana Anders, which takes place in Antarctica. I don't usually read suspense romance but I was on the edge of my seat!

The title of the last book made me think of a book I really want to recommend to you! it's The Honeys by Ryan La Sala which is an atmospheric horror book that had lush beautiful writing like Stiefvater and lots of weird stuff. I'm not usually a horror reader at all but the pretty cover drew me in and I loved it!

The love interests I love in books often don’t align at all with my actual dating preferences! Lmao that’s so interesting and I’ve never thought about it like that before.
I had exactly the same issue with The Kiss Quotent in that I felt like Michael kept pushing when Stella didn't want him to, and it gave me serious, uncomfortable feelings. Personally loved the first two books, though!
For a follow up, I would highly recommend Bolu Babalola's short story collection Love in Color!!

I think your concerns that people are essentially making judgements about your preferences based on your book choices is super common, but something I recommend you let go of. I think of reading as one way to escape our regular lives. We love to watch shows about catastrophes, but that doesn't mean we want a tornado to hit our house. We love to watch antiheroes, but that doesn't mean we want to go out and become a vigilante. And I think we read things to enjoy a moment in someone else's shoes, and it doesn't have to represent what we wish our lives were like. This is often why women, in particular, love to read about bad boys, domineering men, touch her and die, etc, but we're often in love with or even married to the good guys. So shake off that fear, and I recommend trying a wide range of romance. Try M/M, kink, monster, shifter, etc etc. Try it all! Find out what works for you and makes you smile or your heart race, and then go snuggle up to your cinnamon roll husband and sweet kiddo and be at peace.

Soooo, yeah…I’ve read quite a few Talia Hibbert books, and many of them have that shift in tone between intimate and non-intimate scenes. It can be really jarring the way it goes from two characters getting to know each other, chatting about their favorite things to pure smut in the course of a paragraph. In Talia Hibbert’s case, I enjoy the story itself so it doesn’t really bother me.
I enjoyed The Boyfriend Project as well but ended up DNFing the next book. It definitely could’ve been a case of not being the right time…maybe I’ll go back and try it again sometime.
I don’t think you’ll like the Tessa Bailey book for that tonal shift you talked about between regular and sex scenes, although I thought Hook, Line, and Sinker was far less cringy than Fix Her Up.
I think you’ll enjoy Book Lovers because you talked in a previous video about liking books with a little bit of an author insertion. This book definitely winks at the camera with the way it talks about tropes and plots devices within romance.
