    My Grandfather died in No mans land in 1917, My Father fought in his tank in world war 2, My Two brothers and I served 70 years total in the cold war and my Mother was an Army Nurse. We did that because, as so many do, that everyone has the right to free speech and liberty. I really do fear for this country and the road ahead.

    I remember a TV programme about the fall of The Iron Curtain and a comment by a journalist who used to make regular trips to East Germany
    He said that one of the things he noticed was how quiet the place was - in bars, restaurants, or just walking down the street there was no laughter, joking, banter, criticism, or lively conversation, just the necessary minimum
    The reason was that you never knew who was listening and how your comments might be recorded or interpreted, leading to your being reported, arrested, and so on

      A constitution or entreched law means nothing if the law is written so that the ones in power can interpret it the way they want. Practically every country in the world theoretically protects speech but will inevitably make exceptions for "morality", "public order", "socialist principles".
      "Parliament shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."--modified from the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America.

    • @jrd33
      @jrd33 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, it's not about prosecution at all. The purpose is to make people fear possible prosecution because they don't know what is against the law and therefore self-censor and not risk saying anything contentious.

    Turns out the law for hate speech is incredibly vague. Anything that is 'deemed' to be offensive, means any statement could be deemed offensive. This will have a chilling effect on discourse, and that in turn will effect society more broadly.
    Put it this way, the Soviet Union was not in great shape when it collapsed.

    The police are really enjoying this as they are finally being allowed to carry out some sort of duty. As for the BRF, I’m all for getting rid of them after being a lifelong monarchist. How can William take over if he’s not behind the COE? I know a lot of people were upset at Charles choosing to defend the faiths instead of faith but in such a multicultural country, I felt it was the right move to include all of Britains people. I’m not COE so I’m not personally offended but we grew up having their importance drilled into us. If they are just for tourism, get shot of them and make money from the properties they currently enjoy exclusive rights to. I loved William but he’s just as woke as his brother. He merely conceals it better.

Now these people come from these countries, excluding Northern Ireland, and attempt to take our liberties from us. I lost friends and nearly lost my own life so my answer to those who attempt to suppress me I say "not as my last breath is still in me, I will die on my feet rather than live on my knees".
