After WWII my dad hitched a ride back home on the Queen Mary. The great ship was packed, but the returning troops feasted like kings and reveled in her composure in heavy seas. It’s good to be on the winning side.
Love this. True Atlantic crossing. My brother leaves on Friday for the transat, then the Northern lights on 1/11 and back to back return to NYC. #jealous. Great video Chris.
That's awesome. I plan to do it someday for sure ocean liners are epic I want to see the stars at night hopefully and the swimming pools steam room etc sounds awesome going to buy a very nice 3 piece and a hat and shoes just like the good ole days..
I listened to the ships designer Stephen Payne OBE in a video conference last year and he mentioned there is more structural steel in the QM2 to make another ship
Did a crossing on the QM2 from Southampton to New York in April 2022. We had 7 to 8 m seas. And a couple of days where the temperature was in the high 40s F. Loads of fun.
Been in force 11on qm2 one may very interesting just spent time on slots as nobody was around the captain said in his report how well she handled especially as the waves came over the camera and these are very high up on the bow very enjoyable.
I’ve been on the QM2, on the edge of a hurricane in the North Atlantic - much bigger waves than this video. She handles storms beautifully. It’s a phenomenal experience.
I remember watching a documentary back when The QM2 was just being built and put in into service! I can’t believe it’s been 20 years for this ship sailing the seas.
Around 10 crossings on QM2 (and another coming up). Yes, I've crossed in weather like this, and LOVED every moment because this is Queen Mary 2. None like her. The world's only Ocean Liner in operation.
The one thing i dont like about the QM2 is the fact even a real storm dont seem to catch her offguard. Designed to withstand a beating and keep everyone comfy and safe.
It actually ended up as a force 12 on that crossing but the bulk of the most rough conditions were at night! Glad it was QM2. She makes it look easy. m.th-cam.com/video/Yl-PExUQceE/w-d-xo.html
@@WilliamMurphy-b6v sounds very exciting!! I’ve seen some amazing storm photos from QE2 with her bow smashing through the waves. We had a good one in the southern ocean aboard in 2002. It was memorable!!
Omg man do you know who he is?? First cruise. Haha what a joke. The guy is literally on ships every month. Do some research. All it takes is a google search. Its nothing for QM2 is literally the point.
Agreed, 9-10m seas are big. And we hit Very Rough sea state the morning of the bow wave shots. Check out the vlog: th-cam.com/video/Yl-PExUQceE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=0FGh_w5LUCd0wFfK
I do not disagree with the chart. Given the wind force was 12 and the sea state was ‘very rough’ when the bow wave shots were taken it probably fits the big seas definition 🌊
@@ChrisFrameOfficial The size of the waves were not as extreme as other videos where the whole bow is deluged with 30 foot waves repeatedly. Not so in this video. High wind and rain can be intense, but there was a guy outside the wheelhouse in the open air. That's what was underwhelming to me.
@2:01 Bow Wave!! Is this kind of crossing for you?
I've not sailed on QM2 but in a storm like that, it's the only ship I'd want to be on. Beautiful ship.

We spent three days in a force 10 gale on that wonderful ship. A great experience. The ship handled it perfectly.
That is awesome!
Thank you for sharing this old gal doing what she does best!
You are welcome!
I do not think QM2 is an old gal!

She is a beauty. I have sailed her a lot in the past 10 years. Very stable and professionally handled.❤
Incredible ship. Traveling on her next month to the Caribbean. Can’t wait!
Have an epic time!
Thank you! 😊

AHHHH memories of many an Atlantic crossing on the QE2 and QM2.
She's not the World's largest ocean liner
She's the World's only ocean liner !!! 👍👍👍👍
I would welcome being on QM in those conditions. The bar remains open. Just the ice makes more noise
😂
I am doing a Westbound Crossing in a fortnight
We were on board, as you were, Chris, in November 2019 when were in Hurricane Force 12 winds. The QM2 handled it so well.
That’s where this footage was taken!
That’s where this footage came from ☺️☺️☺️
Thought that, but didn't want to presume 😊! .She's such a beautiful ship. Loved your talks on board.
Thank you! I am back on this beauty in June 2025 for the 185th crossing! Can't wait!
Looks rough outside - relatively stable with this liner 😀
It ended up being a Force 12 John - unfortunately most of it was at night.

We crossed on her a few years back and encountered a storm a night. Loved the gently rocking motion whlst tucked up in bed.
Our 'home from home' and the safest place to be in an Atlantic storm.... from experience! 😊 She's still the best!

A stunning ship. I have only sailed on her once but the experience was amazing!
"its a crossing not a cruise!"

The Mighty Mary will take that in her stride
Serving the purpose for which she was built.
The QM2 is such extremely great engineering. A world apart from the QE2.
I agree, QM2 is extremely great, though I'd argue QE2's engineering was pretty impressive too!
@@ChrisFrameOfficialso would I and she was British built unlike the QM2!!
Bow wave ❤ @2:01
We were cruising on the P&O Arvia down the west coast of Spain, it was very windy with a 5 metre swell and we didn’t feel a thing.
That ship sure takes a beating. The salt spray alone sure takes its toll. The last time I sailed on her you could see a lot of corrosion as a result.
That is a good day in winter on the North Atlantic.
The one thing i dont like about the QM2 is the fact even a real storm dont seem to catch her offguard.
Designed to withstand a beating and keep everyone comfy and safe.
I would be afraid a gust of wind would take me off an outside deck in a storm like that.
Excellent ❤
Thanks 😊
Storm! That’s not a storm! Barely a bloody strong breeze!
haha well... it was a Force 12 by the end of the footage so probably fits the storm definition!
You wouldn't get me on a ship at any cost even free ive watched the Titanic to many times what a nightmare 😱😱👍🦊
I
Love the QM 2, but hear from recent travelers that is is not being maintained nearly as well as a few years ago.
I just sailed on her in August 2024 and she appeared very well taken care of. I’ve also been on her in 2017.
Ok,where's the storm?
Morning! If you look at the screen as the video plays you’ll see all the rain and wind and clouds and fog. That’s the storm ⛈️ 😂
You can feel that if you on a usual cruise ship. QM2 is a liner and its job to handle such storm
Haha
Good luck crossing the North Atlantic inside one of those mobile feed lots known as “cruise ships.”
Been in higher seas on that same ship.
How exciting
Prove it.
whahhhhh!!
Where is the storm?
You’ll see it if you watch the video 😂
Yep… that’s the North Atlantic, alright.
No way its too rough
No problem! Lol😂
Yeah QM2 just eats the weather for breakfast 😂😂😂
Hardly a real storm. Rougher than calm water but anticipated in ship design and building.

@ChrisFrameOfficial Thanks. I was in a storm on the QE2 going transatlantic. I compare all storms to that one, and it was one in a lifetime.

@ChrisFrameOfficial Thanks for the follow-on comments.
You call that a storm?
Morning! It was a Force 12 with very rough sea state by the time the footage was recorded at the end of the video. So yes, yes I do 😂
Most people could handle that "storm". It doesn't look that bad from what I see in this video. Just choppy seas on a foggy day. No biggie.
I’d puke my self to death no lie.
Probably your first cruise? This is nothing, I repeat, nothing for the QM2.
Omg man do you know who he is?? First cruise. Haha what a joke. The guy is literally on ships every month. Do some research. All it takes is a google search. Its nothing for QM2 is literally the point.
This is not big seas
Indeed it was sir. Filming shows snippets from Force 9-12 during a November crossing.
@@ChrisFrameOfficial This is about 3-4 metre swell so that's considered moderate. When you get to 9-10 metre swells you're in big seas.

Frankly, there is not much action in this boring video.
Frankly theres nothing worth reading in your boring reply.
Really? Bad weather. I am sorry but you have no idea if you think this is bad wx. The North Atlantic can get far worse than this.
Underwhelming.

Been in far worse on QM2 and Queen Victoria. That is fairly tame!
