Thank you! I'm 10 months from retirement as a 61 year old completely burned out private practice physician and fellow Portlander. I had your dream at 40, then 45, then 50......and always a financial setback would derail it (physicians are horrible business people, me included) but now I'm committed and unless armageddon happens, I should be purchasing and getting the hell out of Dodge (Portland). I cannot tell you how great it is to watch your videos and love especially what you said..."how much time do you have". Even with only 10 months left, there is that distinct fear that disaster well strike and end my dream. I 100% agree with what you have done. There is nothing more tragic than the story of the 60 year old man that died while at work with the plans of his boat on his desk.
Wow, thank you for the note. Time really is all we have. As a physician, seeing illness, and death even must give you an even greater appreciation for the fragility of life. I think that after doing this with small boats and big boats and with little money and a bit more, and seeing other dreamers dream and do or not do, money isn't what really holds any of us (us included) back. Instead, I think that it is comfort and status and a subconscious understanding that to take to the ocean on a little boat is a taxing adventure....it is not easy. Easy is putting on a suit and tie and makeup and standing in an air conditioned TV studio to tell people whether tomorrow will be good for gardening or reading a book, which is what I did for money before we left in 2002. Hard...well, just about everything boat-related is hard. Megan and I have a saying we frequently use on board: we don't do this because it is easy, but because it is hard. And the reward? Well, I won't spoil it with words that don't do service to the experience. But I do now understand why my grandfather Neil Kelly (yes that Neil Kelly) raced boats across oceans even after having a heart attack on board a thousand miles from land. He did it not because it was easy, but because it was hard. I salute you and anyone with the dream that makes it happen...young, old, rich, poor, whatever. I hope we see you out here soon. Best, Nick
Love the refreshing candid explanations. The episode on 'how we afford to sail' and 'haggling ethically when purchasing a boat' were just so frank and honest. Absolutely love it.
"No Kids" - man you said it right there lol. They are expensive, and ex wives too lol, but now I am on the downhill run to them flying the coup I am starting to look for my next stage in life. You guys are becoming a wealth of knowledge for me. Great channel.
Folks, thank you for this video. Financial considerations are a HUGE concern for many people thinking about this type of life. This is a great guide to at the very least, give people an idea of what it will cost them.
A refreshing, candid, sensible take on sailing life. No drama, heavy drinking, or gratuitous skin shots. You three (gotta include Sugar;) are the real deal. Thanks for doing this. Looking forward to more!
Thanks John. I can see how someone would spend a lot more money if they were partying. We aren't like that. Appreciate the note. Yes, more on the way. This is fun!
We have been cruising for the past two years on $500 per month, but that number has blown up with the winter refit we just finished. We can't wait to get back onto the hook and out of the marina so that we can stop paying for the marina!
We did the minimalist thing with the last boat. Not sure we got down to 500/month, but certainly well under $1000. This is cruise #3 and this time around we wanted to bring friends and family along safely and comfortably. But our yearly insurance costs more than your entire budget, and that amount of waste is not lost on us at all. I say cheers to you!
Thanks for sharing - important info for us who are considering a lifestyle shift. We've always been boaters, but it's a completely different thing to cruise for months or years at a time. You're absolutely right about how expensive kids are! Budget info is very helpful, safe travels! Meet you for a beer in port one day I hope!
I love how you guys are such a team. Don't mean to put you guys up on a pedestal, every married couple has their issues or annoyances with each other, but based on your TH-cams, I would hope to be in a marriage one day that is like your guys. Respectful. Fun. Kind. Enjoying life.
Aww thank you so much for the huge compliment! We definitely have our moments like every couple, but I can honestly say the more time we spend together in close quarters, the fewer of them we seem to have. Wishing you all the best!
Love the video and information. Mrs.O’Kelly my mother used to make quilts, bedspreads, draperies, clothes too. My proudest moment for her and her dedicated craftsmanship was when she made the quilts and bedspreads for the movie Steel Magnolias, some of the Stars also had her make them quilts and sent personal letters of thanks. All of my closest relatives grew up on a farm, some still farm but a lot of them work in the city but, it is amazing the talents the ladies develop and of course there are always local, county, and state fairs to display their works of art. You are very talented as a seamstress and your boat projects that you have custom made and worked hard at look absolutely wonderful.
I just came accross your channel and watched a bunch of your videos. Many subscribers like myself, for one reason or another are not going to be able to launch an adventure ourselves. I would like to be taken on your adventures through your stories. To begin I would love to hear a comprehensive “our story” video. Both of your past lives, how you came together, how sailing became an important part of your lives, etc. Once we know you better, we will feel like we are part of the crew, part of your sailing family. You obviously have all the skills to make the content, it’s a lot of work, but think of all of us who want to take the ride. Thanks for the videos. Larry
Thanks for the note Larry. We've got a long story, so I hope you are patient. We met in sixth grade alright... Thank you for your patience while we get our feet under us, we are not new to sailing but we are quite new to having an audience. Your feedback is invaluable to knowing what people find interesting. Really appreciate it. We will work on something that gives a bit more background on us. Nick
What a lovely couple you are. Enjoy life to the fullest, that's the right recipe. Like the old man said; Little did I know that the days that came and went, they were life itself. Looking forward to the next video. Safe sailing!
Right around the 8min mark and onwards, including the "in the red" remark, something clicked in me. Thank you guys. I love your vibe so much. Resourcefulness, frugality and work ethic that make you look like millionaires in your freedom to do what you want (and how it looks to other people who ask you the obvious question). My grandparents are exactly like that and this struck home more than I can explain. Thank you!!
@@TheOKellys Yup, they having it harder or easier is a pointless discussion when you see what they can make out of very little. Good luck! Enjoy that glorious popcorn! :D
First time tapping into your channel & I find it very honest & funny in all. Thanks for not blasting me with advertisements. Keep us informed & seems like you both are easy going people. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the note! Trying to be ourselves, for better or worse.... Will try not to blast adverts your way. Will avoid that as long as we can! Best, Nick
Ha Ha - our mentality exactly!! Experiences every time over bank balance!! We both walked away from careers with 12 years to pension and moved to a house on the ocean 3,000 miles away and bang gongs for a living!!!. Fraction of the income but richer than the 'richest' billionaire! Make your dream your 'job' and never work a day again in your life! Keep living it guys! Great vid - thanks.
There are many ways to measure a life and financially is probably the worst way. We share anchorages with 20 footers and 200 footers. It's the same water and the same beach! I like your perspective. Thanks for the props! NIck
Thanks for sharing that info. Understanding other couple's spending patterns while cruising will certainly help us get there sooner. We still have two kids at university, once those costs are sorted we will be out there. I think your comments around being able to make more money but not more time is a great way to think about life and the adventures which are available.
Megan lost parents too soon. My father just died this last year. Time is....well, it's all we really have and only for a while. Your kids are very lucky to have you helping them along...put them to work on your new boat! Glad to hear you are making plans. Nick
I just subscribed to your channel. I’ve seen several attempts at the cruising budget thing and you guys did a nice job covering this topic. I suspect that I’m like many others watching, dreaming/planning for the chance to take a multi year cruise. I’m soon to be 55 with a son a few years from college and a target retirement date just past 63. I just can’t do it before that due to life and job commitments. I’ve set my hypothetical cruising budget myself at about $4K per month so your numbers make me feel better about that. In the mean time I guess I’ll just have to be happy with my weekend boating in Beaufort and sail charters every few years in the Caribbean ....and watching vids of you and others journeys. Safe travels!
Appreciate the kind words. Money is such a personal thing, but if we can at least be somewhat illuminating through example, that's enough for me. If you aren't servicing any debt, 4k is more than enough for most people. You are blessed with a wonderful area for coastal sailing. We like Beaufort a lot. Safe travels to you as well.
I appreciate your honesty about the lack of kids being such a factor, it reaffirms my decision now at 34 to forego having any and focus on a fulfilling life through other means. The fact that it has allowed you to go cruising makes me more confident in my future plans. Subscribing.
Christian Riedel thanks Christian. Congrats on the decision. We definitely aren’t anti-kid, but not having kids definitely played into our financial situation. Appreciate your note and subscription. Best, Nick
@@TheOKellys What a throwback, this just popped up because of Mr Surfer's reply...my first video of yours that I watched and I've watched every one since. Amazing how much can change in a year...the girlfriend left (mainly because I wouldn't change my mind on kids and she decided she wanted them), next month I'll have finished paying off all 93k in (mainly) student loan debt in just 2.25 years, and thanks to COVID my work has went and is staying fully remote and I can start cruising! Hope to see you out there next season!
I've read Jimmy Cornell's and Bernard Moitessier's books about sailing life, and both of them basically said what you guys say, not being wasteful is the key. I'm so glad I've found your channel. Have a wonderful adventure!
I agree with you, do one thing for a while do another thing for a while. I learned this when I was laid off and realized I could not not work for too long but also realized I didn't like working for too long either Lol
I say if you can do one thing forever and be happy and content with it, you are a lucky lucky person. I wish I were that way sometimes. But I am not; we are not. We gotta keep moving and keep changing. Like you said, it's all in how you look at it, right? Thanks for the note Phillip!
Its interesting to watch this now I watched it 3 years ago and just watched it 2/23 its amazing how far you went with your channel and wonder how much more it costs now especially food, fuel, and insurance
Thanks for the "real" transparent life lesson...you can't buy time! Amen! Continued blessings...and oh yea...post the recipe for the peanut sauce yum-yum.
I sort of wing'ed it... 1/2 cup or so of peanut butter (Adams of course) 1/2 cup or so of water 2 Tbs Coconut Mana 1 tsp onion powder 1 tsp garlic powder 1 Tbs soy sauce 2 Tbs chilli sauce - I use Sriracha a bit of lemon juice something sweet to taste - I used Stevia but a little sugar or honey would work Thank you for the kind note. All we have is time. Nick O
thanks for sharing your philosophy on money and budgeting and frugality!!! as you pointed out, you guys seem to value your time as much as your money in terms of being intentional with both. it’s quite humbling and inspiring!
Thanks Tom, yeh, really trying to do just that. Time is going by faster and faster and it's not easy to get back! Thanks for the note...it inspires me!
You three are adorable! Just discovered this channel and watched a few episodes because I just felt like I knew you from somewhere... Then I realized who you remind me of...Peter Krause from Parenthood/Six Feet Under and a dear friend of mine from Pittsburgh, Sharon. But now that I've settled that mystery I can enjoy your simple honesty, wacky sense of humor and true love for adventure and each other! Thanks for sharing a window to your world as I wrap up land life and get closer to making my own seaward journey!
It's the chin, right? Megan told me that once about Peter Krause. She is a big fan of Six Feet Under. What a cool career that must be, eh? Acting? Looks like a lot of fun. Thank you so much for the kind comments! We are really fortunate to be able to do this, and it's fun to share. That's really exciting you are headed out too. I hope we see you out here soon. Thanks Pamela, Nick
You guys are really fantastic. You both have such great personalities and you are totally real. I find myself smiling often as I watch your videos. I have a boat in St Augustine and I just missed you a while back. Thanks for superb videos.
My kind of people, reduce the waste, stop comfort shopping and maximise the holding of money. No secret but tis a choice. Great video and full of reality.
@@TheOKellys your welcome Nick, I am enjoying the videos, I feel you guys are giving out real info, well thought out and taking the time to give us a non marketing type style, insight into the lifestyle. Thank you its appreciated.
Nice brake down of the most important things that keep the boat life going. When we ask how much it coats we are reality trying to see if we can afford that life style and i thing with careful planing i see it can be achieve. What i see is that you have to watch your spending very carefully.
so much respect for how honest and transparent you are with this type of question. Especially with the philosophy of life and how to deal with money is extremely helpful. I wish you both the very best and thank you for making awesome videos!
A great quote to live by “you can never make more time but you can always make more money. Finally purchased a boat 2 years ago. Put 2 kids thru college and 2 more will finish soon????? My father retired military, then went back to college graduating with his doctorates, worked another career and finally retired. Mom worked as a military mom taking jobs wherever we were. She finally worked in Banking and retired as well. They dreamed of traveling in a motor home. Finally, after many years they purchased their “dream” class A. The only problem is they can afford this lifestyle, however, the mounting medical problems due to years of abuse on their bodies, they rarely are able to travel. My dad gave me a word of advise. Don’t break the bank but follow your dreams while you still can.
Wow Dennis. Thank you for sharing this. I flew back from the islands last season to hold my dad's hand as he died. He'd wanted to buy an RV a couple years ago but us kids were afraid he wasn't up to it. He wanted to drive the SW and do Route 66, but like your parents his body wasn't up to it when he finally felt "free" enough to do it. It makes me smile to think he was able to live vicariously through us a little bit, but also it makes me so deeply sad to know that he worked so hard his whole life and never was able to take flight the way we had. RV'ing is so much easier physically than sailing. We were in our late 20s when we took off in 2002 on the first big boat. We were kids. I will never forget how many middle aged cruisers told us we were smart to go early. Now in our mid 40s, with cranky knee, sore back, and fuzzier memory, I would pass that wisdom to anyone I came across who had the dream but was waiting for a perfect financial scenario. All this being said, age is a state of mind and physical strength can be maintained. We met an old English couple just finishing up a circumnavigation. He was 86 I believe and she was 80 or so. She was a spitfire and he could barely hear a thing, but they'd done it...gone all the way around...and it only took them 20 years to do it. Imagine that life for a moment. So I say cheers to anyone with the dream who actually goes out and does it. Hope we cross paths. Nick Megan made a good video about why we do this. You might like it. th-cam.com/video/CFb0aXIwHTw/w-d-xo.html
You said you didn’t have children. Sugar is probably the most sweetest sailing lab out there. She is your child . What bothers me about our pets is they leave us to soon , kind of like Sugar mountain. Too me , They give me the most joy in life and also the most sadness. Anyway, My opinion is your financial affairs are your business, nobody else’s. You have told us that you were a meteorologist at one point . They tend to make better money than any old anchor. I like the openness and genuine kindness you both demonstrate outwardly. Makes no difference if you decide to quit the sea life tomorrow you three will be fine whatever you decide. Thanks for the video and fair winds . Paul, St Petersburg, Florida
Thanks for the note Paul. We lost Sugar in January. We miss her every day. She had a wonderfully long life. We share our finances to help others who want to do this as well. Best to you!
You guys are awesome and an inspiration! I've had a deep passion for sailing since I was a kid living and growing up in Sausalito and Manhattan Beach CA, I'm now 50 and the passion is still very much alive but to this day still have not had the opportunity or financial ability to get started. Me and my wife are finally planning to start small with purchasing something around 25-28 feet within the next year to learn and practice. Long term, we eventually plan to get a 44-52 foot mono-hull (Beneteau, Jeanneau, or Catalina Morgan?) for live-aboard cruising in the Asia-Pacific region, hopefully within the next 7-10 years. Currently we live in the desert in Las Vegas, and cant leave due to work, but plan to start a business soon to rapidly increase our income and savings, at least we have a very large lake to learn on. Were so tired of the rat race, time for a change, wife is from Philippines so hope to retire and cruise that region permanently. $1200 month for food for 2 people seems very high, we spend around $400-450 month for my family of 5 (me, wife, 19yr son, 10yr daughter, 15mos daughter).
Hey there. Thank you thank you thank you for the kind words! We were based out of Sausalito / Mill Valley for many years. We kept our last boat Either Way there right behind Cafe Triest/Taste of Italy/Whateveritscalled. You've got a virtual wonderland out your back door right there, and I'm not talking about the strip. Lake Mead of course (though you better put wheels on that boat pretty soon) but Lake Powell as well. If you get a lake boat, go as light as you possibly can to squeeze the knots out of those fickle breezes. Lakes and mountain/desert lakes like you have are actually a fantastic way to learn how to sail because you are going to be adjusting to ever-changing conditions. It will make you a better sailor. If you guys are flexible, consider buying something downwind a bit. Mexico perhaps. You might end up getting a bit more for your dollar. Keep in touch, let me know how it goes. And good luck. The adventure starts now! Nick O
Hi there. I've been watching your episodes for a couple of days and I really like the way you both speak and present yourself and your life style. In this episode you impressed me even more telling us about your finances so plainly and in such a humble way. I do appreciate that your love and passion you share with us=people like i who watch your episodes=cement you together to carry on against all odds. I am going to buy your book you have proposed to read in this episode....and despite being nobody....only a lorry driver in the UK...I hope to spend some time with you on your lovely cat🐈😍🐈meooooow
Thanks for the down to earth way the two of you communicate the realty of having a boat. I subscribed after the first video I watched of you two. The things you talk about anchoring...etc...are exactly the things I need to know if someday I decide to take the plunge and buy a boat! Thanks again look forward to all of your next videos
Myron, get yourself that boat and get on out here and join us! The water is fine...lol. Glad we can help in any way. We are so fortunate to be able to do this and so glad to be able to share. Nick O.
Really enjoying your channel guys, I enjoy the FIRE community stuff too which is all about living alternately and enjoying your time now. Very inspirational stuff and very polished videos.... Keep this stuff going and this could turn into a legit TH-cam channel (meaning enough to fund your $2500 a month living costs). Fair Winds!
The FIRE community - had to look that up! Thank you regardless. Appreciate the note. No idea where the TH-cam stuff goes, but we are having fun with it for now. Happy to be useful to the community. Thanks again Trevor. Best, Nick
So much truth in your words, you can't buy time! so go out and make the best out of it, like you do. Great Videos so far and a very inspiring mindset - keep up the good videos :) Cheers from Brittany
Really good honest brake down of cost, and yes you are right I have watched someone your old videos and just assumed you had lots of money. Lol. Love your videos keep living the dream. Steve 🇬🇧
Ahoy, we’re SFCA lubbers (still figuring out how to sail the bay) and have to say, this video is the tipping point for us to sell everything, quit big tech and make the jump to the sailing life. Thank you so much for an awesome, informative video. Hope to meet y’all on the water one day! Andy & Katherine
Andy and Katherine, that’s really awesome to hear! Those SFBay conditions are quite the testing grounds! Congrats on your decision to go. That may be the hardest part. Good luck and we do hope to see you out here soon. Let us know how it goes. Best, Nick
Nick, thanks for the note! That you replied made us even more excited about the journey ahead. We’re in the early stages of the boat search process. We loved your video on boat buying tips, which will really help us. Not quite sure how to find a buyer broker ... any tips? A&K
If you are looking for a cat, contact me privately through FB or our site and so can give you a couple names. I don’t want to promote people/businesses on here.
@@TheOKellys That would be excellent to learn :-) Have you considered looking into using a Watt & Sea hydro generator while underway or anchored with a decent current? May be able to power up on really cloudy / windless days instead of running generator etc
You 2 are AWESOME! That is so true, children are not that expensive on money sense, but definitely on time sense. After I watched the total solar eclipse in 2017, I have decided after I retire, after kids are in college, I will get a cat and chase the total eclipse around the world. That will be a few years in the future. I will start from small things now. :-)
Money is the currency of value. Time is the currency of life. I enjoy y'all's content, and am glad I discovered your channel. Looking forward to future episodes!
Bought your book "Get her on board" from audible. We are about half way through and it's great. Surely it's worth adding one more subscriber to our slowly growing Chanel 😜
Right on, thanks! It was a freshman effort and written a long time ago, but I stand by those ideas. Subscribed to your channel, good stuff! Going to be a bit before we can catch up with all your videos...we are running low on data!
Nick O'Kelly Hannah was always onboard, however it interested us to see how you explained getting your other half to join you aboard and join the dream and help to keep it alive. Plus it helps support you guys with the royalties. Don't worry about catching our videos, it isn't a problem, we know exactly how valuable data is. It's just nice that you've subscribed, it all helps put our channel in front of others. 👍🏼
You guys are absolutely the best out there!!! Love you and your content, so entertaining and yet so deceptively informative! I have to dream for the moment.
Wow man, that’s really really nice of you to say, especially since there are sooooo many great sailing channels out there. Thank you! Makes us feel really good!
Liked you from the first 10 secs....so down to earth! Umphteen vid now, how inspiring! Keep going and blessings, may the force protect you in all your (ad)ventures! :-)
Another synchronicity!! This is my life!! Lol I was just watching your last video about buying a boat and you mentioned that you were on lake Norman. Now I’m seeing Norman Island flash across the screen in this current video.. Interesting.. Norman is the town I live in.. Great vid too!! 💙🐟
You should write a book about how to buy a boat or everything you need to know about buying a boat....I think it would be awesome and I for 1 would buy it.
Was watching at the kitchen island...you say “ we have no kids” My husband just starts laughing 😂, it’s something we decided recently not to do as we want to get out there someday soon! We are doing the unglamorous frugal work also...! Thanks for the video! And laugh! 😂🤣😂
Hahahahaha. I can picture that. Definitely would be fun to have kids out here. But, yep, that's one of the big reasons we've been able to be so financially irresponsible over the years... :) Good luck on the journey! See you out here soon I hope.
Excellent and such an easy going video to a subject that so many always wonder about. I'm hoping that teleworking will work for me. Thank you for breaking every out for us. Keep the videos coming. Cheers from Canada
This is a very inspirational video. Thanks 🙏 I don't know anything about sailing, I don't even know if I will ever be on a sailboat. But I do understand that statement, of being able to make money, but not make time. That's important. And that's what's been motivating my life decisions in the past few years! In the world and day of Covid, I wish you well and hope you stay safe, happy, and and healthy.
It's the truth, isn't it? One of life's universals. I think a lot of people are going to re-order their priorities in the future. All the best to you and your family as well. Be well.
So, I think it'd be a fun idea to make a course on how to predict wave swell and sell it to surfers (I work in marketing, used to be a math teacher, and live in Mexico). Problem is, I only took one weather course a long time ago. But I think it would sell, and I know how to build the marketing stack for it. If only I could find a meteorologist...
@@TheOKellys Hilarious. I just moved to Bucerias after living in Sayulita and Puerto Vallarta for 3 years. Then I put my back out - so no surfing, or sailing, or kite boarding. Just a lot of sailing videos.
Thanks Jim. Home is Portland, OR, but we are full time on the boat these days with a break for some land travel. We are undecided about this summer as our dog Sugar is getting old and having a few health issues. So we may either stay on the boat and head to Maine, or put into port somewhere on the SE coast and do a road trip back out west. Best, Nick
I may be jealous at times that some people can buy a nice boat like this! However, I always love and respect it when people aren't shy to give real numbers and not beat around the bush! Just found your channel and been binge watching:D
Great video! Just found you and subscribed. Have lived in Portland, Or for the last 29 years. As I look at the links in show more, I wonder if the Bumfuzzle is the same couple I followed on the "blog" when I first moved on our Yacht in 2004. A young couple from Chicago that took one sailing lesson, bought a catamaran and then sailed it around the world? If I remember correctly, I got the impression that he had been a commodities trader. Can't wait for the next video!
Thanks! Yes, that's Bumfuzzle. Pat's mom used to live by my mom in NE PDX. We've been good friends for a long long time and wrote LOM about8-9 years ago. Where do you live on your boat in Portland? We kept one of our boats on the Columbia.
Unfortunately, we sold it when the grandkids came but from 2000 to 2011 we where in the Multnomah channel. We where involved with the Xmas ships and a local yacht club for years. My wife loves to watch the sailing videos but my idea of a cat(catamaran)and hers of a cat diesel in an RV....she’s winning.:)
You don’t take the labels off of can goods? I heard roaches like to eat the glue. I’m surprised u don’t do that. Anywho- I’m loving ur channel. The video u made a couple of months ago, tips & tricks was my favorite. Funny! U are definitely living ur best life. Jealous in Nashville, Tn. If I hit the lottery I’d love to go for a ride in a cat like urs. Maybe it could be urs🤩. Be safe out there.❤️
Im interested in hearing from sailors like yourself on what systems they use to stay connected to the internet. I do substantial stock market research on youtube and google. I was going to beta test starlink with anticipation of using it on a cat (fair pricing good speeds) until i learned it required a fixed geographic location and is hypersensitive to deviations in directional fix. Not knowing the alternatives, i was wondering if you do a show on what people are using (pros cons) or maybe you have already done one.
@@TheOKellys I've watched a few of your videos but you do have that somewhat stereotypical radio voice - beats me what it's worth but it's gotta be worth something! :)
Seems to be very honest answers, you've made some money but now chose to sail around a bit. Most sailing channels reckon that they are poor as church mice and that they are living hand to mouth.. Totally Totally understand you on children, but kids and grandchildren are worth the sacrifices you make in life. Good luck on your journeys
Lol...i think you guys should always talk like you do in the hot tub. You can invite the Slinging couple from the Sling commercials and hang out on the hot tub for your videos.
Hahahahahahaha! Another Nick and Megan. Anyone know their agents? Let's do it! Actually Nick Offerman and I have a lot in common. I was raised in a wood shop! Those two are hillarious.

Should be 10 months now, wonder how tom pal is now?
Love the refreshing candid explanations. The episode on 'how we afford to sail' and 'haggling ethically when purchasing a boat' were just so frank and honest. Absolutely love it.
tom pal
how did it work out? :)
"No Kids" - man you said it right there lol. They are expensive, and ex wives too lol, but now I am on the downhill run to them flying the coup I am starting to look for my next stage in life. You guys are becoming a wealth of knowledge for me. Great channel.
Student loans and mortgages aren't great for savings either...
But worth every penny
Nick O'Kelly as we go earning more, I’m sure our budget will also creep up for the sake of comfort!
Best live aboard breakdown... eva! Your honesty shines through, thanks. Sailing vicariously with you. ;-)
Thank you. We know no other way. Nick
Thanks for telling yourselves. It’s nobody’s business but it’s nice to know. Thanks for your candor.
Safe sailing!
wow. thank you. That old man's words are echoing in my head. Truth. Nick
I admire your optimism. It's great to see a relaxed approach to future when the average state of being is anxiety.
I am convinced it is the key to success. Either that or a I am just lucky. Either way. :)
I'm so hooked I'm going back through the back catalogue waiting for a new video to drop
You guys are my new favorite sailing channel. Absolutely love your content. Cheers, Ted and Annette. ❤️⛵️🌴🍻
Wow Ted and Annette, that is incredibly kind of you to say. Your note is very inspiring. Thank you for that. Nick & Megan & Sugar
Upbeat and honest about where you are and how important time is. Living life without regrets of what you might have done. Great video thanks.
Yeh we could go on and on and on. It is all about time. Thanks for the note!
Thank you!!
They were the “Greatest Generation” for a reason. Thanks for the kind note.
They seem like good people enjoying their life together, Good on them.
Best, Nick
I get the looks, you know which ones. When you mention no kids and you're middle aged. Personally it just hasn't happened which is bitter sweet.
@christianriedel7017 have you started sailing?
@@travistucker7317 yep! We went remote for COVID and I got to stay remote so I'm currently on my Hans Christian 33 in Marathon.
I learned this when I was laid off and realized I could not not work for too long but also realized I didn't like working for too long either
Lol
1/2 cup or so of peanut butter (Adams of course)
1/2 cup or so of water
2 Tbs Coconut Mana
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp garlic powder
1 Tbs soy sauce
2 Tbs chilli sauce - I use Sriracha
a bit of lemon juice
something sweet to taste - I used Stevia but a little sugar or honey would work
Thank you for the kind note.
Aw, thanks man. You’ve got a beautiful town there.
@@TheOKellys I agree. It is special. Take care.

Right on! It was so great to meet you guys and we’re already talking about how fun that would be to go on a bike tour with you! See you soon!

Nice brake down of the most important things that keep the boat life going. When we ask how much it coats we are reality trying to see if we can afford that life style and i thing with careful planing i see it can be achieve. What i see is that you have to watch your spending very carefully.
Yes, you hit the nail on the head Jeff. It's all in the details. It doesn't mean being cheap or miserly...just being frugal and attentive.
so much respect for how honest and transparent you are with this type of question. Especially with the philosophy of life and how to deal with money is extremely helpful. I wish you both the very best and thank you for making awesome videos!
wow thank you! Really appreciate that. I'm always curious how other cruisers area doing this too. Glad to be of any help. Thanks for the note!

The O'Kelly's I am so sorry . Stay safe. Paul

You guys are great...Thanks again for sharing...
Wish I had some collectors cars in my investment portfolio! Thanks, Nick
This is the first time I have watched you guys, love the video. Where is home when you guys are on land?
Best, Nick
Very inspirational... Im 1 yr out from my first boat ...
Thanks Maurice, and congrats on your countdown hope we see you out here!
I may be jealous at times that some people can buy a nice boat like this! However, I always love and respect it when people aren't shy to give real numbers and not beat around the bush! Just found your channel and been binge watching:D
Hey thanks Kevin. Hope to remain binge-able. Appreciate the note!
Well done video. Both entertaining and informative.
Thanks guys, I really like your honesty and this is something that I aspire to also.
Our pleasure! Get on out here and do it!
Be safe out there.❤️
Thanks for sharing folks
Im interested in hearing from sailors like yourself on what systems they use to stay connected to the internet. I do substantial stock market research on youtube and google. I was going to beta test starlink with anticipation of using it on a cat (fair pricing good speeds) until i learned it required a fixed geographic location and is hypersensitive to deviations in directional fix. Not knowing the alternatives, i was wondering if you do a show on what people are using (pros cons) or maybe you have already done one.
Money making idea for you: can you make a low carb cruising specific cookbook? I would buy that.
Thank you for the idea, I like it!
Nice, looking forward to videos of the Caribbean.👍💛😎
It helps when you have a million dollar voice. Hahahah. Good video guys. I'm binging on your videos right now. Thanks!
Hahahahha. Thanks. I don't know about a million. Maybe a thousand... lol
Thank you ! I ve been wanting to do this I'm in the progress of finding a boat!
Awesome. Let me know how it goes and what you end up with.
