First time I took 500mg of L-phenylalanine it blew my socks off. Was like taking the Limitless pill BUT my resting heart rate went through the roof and I found it extremely hard to sleep for 2 days. I would definitely titrate up from a low dose when you first start taking it, just in case.

I have dyslexia and as I have been under a lot of stress in the last year I feel my executive functioning, mood and focus have been getting worse. How did you get the urine test at the beginning of the video? Some sites say that testing for neurotransmitters is inaccurate. It it more that you are testing for the protein precursors?

For those who may not mind diving one resolution layer deeper:
D [dextro-rotary] and L [levo-rotary] are stereo twins of eachother. L- and D-amino acids are two possible orientations of a particular amino acid in nature. With few exceptions [some bacterias use D aminos for building blocks] amino acids in human biology are usually the L variety.
They are the mirror image of each other.
Also, they can be considered as the isomeric forms, stereoisomers or enantiomers. while L-amino acids can rotate plane-polarized light counterclockwise in a process called levorotation, D-amino acids can rotate plane-polarized light clockwise in a process called dextrorotation. It has been considered that only L-amino acids are utilized in mammals, including humans. However, because of the recent development of sensitive and selective analytical methods for detecting chiral amino acids [125], diverse D-amino acids have been found in mammalian tissues. The physiological functions of these D-amino acids are being gradually clarified. Known exceptions are D-Serine used as a neurotransmitter that competitively docks at Glycine sites of the NMDA receptor complex, making it useful in addressing conditions such as schizophrenia, ADD, and some neuralgias. Similar activity with D-Alanine.THE D IN DLPA IS EXCLUSIVELY DERIVED SYNTHETICALLY D-Phenylalanine (DPA) is an inhibitor of the enzyme (enkephalinase-a carboxypeptidase) known to breakdown (catabolize) endorphins, especially enkephalins. Thus, if we increase brain enkephalins by administering DPA, the amount of enkephalins will increase in the brain. HOWEVER, the D form of Phenylalanine DOES NOT contribute to the L-DOPA >catecholamine pathway, only its L isomer does. It has also been demonstrated that D-amino acids, such as D-serine, D-aspartate, D-alanine, and D-cysteine, play important roles in the nervous and endocrine systems. It is VERY IMPORTANT TO NOTE that D and L forms of a chemical, DESPITE HAVING THE SAME NAME, ARE AS DIFFERENT FROM EACHOTHER AS ANY TWO CHEMICALS WITH DIFFERENT NAMES including their properties! As an example of this fact: The D form occurs commonly with many molecules you may be more familiar with such as glucose and other sugars, My favorite, Amphetamine, whose L form is Over The Counter in most countries including here in The USA. Yet whose D form may land you in a heap of trouble without proper approval or a reliable plug!

did you think about taking it before a high intensity exersice? pushups in the morning and squats in the evening.
the exercise makes a lot of lactate when the muscles run out of oxygen.
with the enzyme CNDP2, th body makes LAC-PHE from lactate and phenylalanine.
first, the brain can use lactate as a fuel source and seems to love it (better focus). second, the lac-phe acts as a hormone and lowers appetite (ghrelin).
the question is: does lac-phe has other benefits too?

I live in Canada, and I get told that there is no such thing as a test like the one you took showing all these neurotransmitters? Why??? Why if we are only an 8 hour drive north of the US is there such a difference. I can't even get told if my lipids are the big or little ones. This is really really frustrating. PS, I wish I were born 15 years later, as I too would have had a degree or two.

For those of you (who like me) wondered where I could get such a neurotransmitter test, here is the scoop. I wouldn't bother. There are places online that sell them but the truth is that there is no scientifically established link between theses levels in urine compared to what is in the brain. These test measure levels in urine - not in the brain. Also, consider that many of these substances have a half live of just seconds, so such a test is also just showing you one moment in time - you could get quite different results depending on when you take it. In addition there are scams out there, with one company being fined 6 million due to falsely adjusting results in order to then recommend certain supplements they sell. But there is another way, and it is free. There are question-based tests you can take on the net that will hone in on your symptoms and tell you the likely transmitters that are off.

You can test for neurotransmitters or hormones excreted in urine using HPLC, ELISA assays, or GC. It is commonly known that neurotransmitters, while used or synthesized in the brain, circulate throughout the entire body. If you are not on any supplements or medications, your neurotransmitter levels have their "normal" (baseline) levels and are unlikely to fluctuate on a day to day basis such that your urine test results are all over the place if you were to take the test repeatedly over a specified time period.
There is research out there where children or adults with or without ADHD were tested for biomarkers in their urine (and blood plasma) that could be used to diagnose someone with ADHD. These studies revealed that those with ADHD have lower levels of phenethylamine and other neurotransmitters in both blood and urine. It makes total sense as scientists are always looking for non-invasive ways to test people for the presence of diseases because it is one way to diagnose or help prevent them. Just to solidify that claim, a team of scientists in Michigan recently created a urine test that can detect head and neck cancer through DNA that is secreted into urine that came from the tumor (ctDNA).

Hey there, would it make sense to take DL-Phenylalanine in combination with Noopept? It had a great impact in the beginning, lowering after a month. (Normal intake is 2-3 months on, 2 weeks off). I do take a choline source, too.
One thing that i could clearly notice was that my memory has moved from a way where i remembered through coherences to that "loose" kind of memory where you don't really know where it comes from, which i didn't know before. Impact on focus was noticiable, but not as much as on ritalin or something like that. My short term memory has also improved. I'm able to memorize larger numbers than before (was suffering dyscalculia besides ADHD until a few years ago).

So, I took PEA (not recommending it) once. It lasts very short time but it let me know what it does. I immediately felt europhphic if I remember, the the most interesting thing was, I got tunnel vision, a bit different than fight or flight tunnel vission I think. I'm all but positive I lost a lot of peripheral vision, the trade off being increased focus, like a round flashlight beam of anything in front of me. It's pretty crazy to think that vision plays a big roll probably in all of this. One idea i had is uncorrected vision might make you more in your head due to less visual processing. I do think things are physical oftentimes but I also think the brain and body comminicate back and fourth so it's not entirely one or the other. Kind of like the brain teaining the body and vice versa.

But I dought that phenylalanine deficit should be a big issue because its an essential amino acid and things that I eat regulary contain tons of it(like peas,...)

It was too good really and with thendoses i was taking gave me heart palpitations and chest pain. Felt like i came close to dying a couple times. Highly not recommended. By taking phenylalanine allows the body to produce more on a regulated level. Much lower doses than taling grams of it orally withiut an maoi-b or hundred of mg with an maoi-b. I believe PEA is what the runners high prosuces and also when we fall in love, with no tolerance. A potent substance that must be respected.
