    I didn't know what to expect. The porta is much more sophisticated than I thought. This will allow me to get a smaller/cheaper/lighter boat. Thanks for the helpful video!

    To make an easier #2 session... yes, open then close the valve... pump 2-3 times to get a wet base area (your solids excrement will slide down into holding tank MUCH easier when wet) ... do your business... use tp sparingly, but effectively... open the valve... pump 2x or more as needed to drain all into bottom holding tank, then close the valve.
    ... done without a “wet primer” will have you needlessly pumping more than needed & wiping the plastic w/ more tp to remove the sticking waste from the plastic... graphic, but true...can turn into a VERY nasty experience... needlessly.

    If you drop a huge log does it get stuck when trying to empty?

  • @jipjop1010

    Use the white button when dumping it empty. Works more quickly.

    Will feces get stuck in the tube or corners of the tank when attempting to empty it?

    • @AppleRob

      Great question! If serviced properly the chemical will dissolve said excrement along with TP and you won’t have a problem.

    Good video. We just bought the sister unit - 335 - which says also to add "the correct dose of flush water tank additive [where available]" to the flush tank. Of course I have to call Thetford to find out specifically what they meant by that... crazy that companies can't print a manual with specific instructions! And does "where available" mean you can skip this step like you have here?

    • @AppleRob
      @AppleRob  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The correct dose should be written on the chemical bottle. This is what we use: amzn.to/2IEfvtZ
      It says 4oz of chemical for portable toilets. I highly recommend using the full 4 oz. I tried being cheap and used less and it was NASTY trying to clean that thing.

      Do NOT use this without chemicals . (Easy to find). Eliminates odors,breaks down waste, etc.
      Otherwise just buy a bucket and shit in a bag.

      More?
      Ask for Campa Chem ( correct term)😆

      I realize now that my problem was with their wording..."flush tank additive"...we just use the Thetford Ecosmart liquid but add an amount in the correct proportion for 2.5 gallons. So we use the same liquid in the holding tank and the flush tank, just different quantities. I made myself permanent written instructions so we don't forget the formulas. Often we just empty the holding tank if the flush tank is still partly full, and only add renewed chemicals to the holding tank in that case. It's been working great but sometimes if you flush too vigorously the water leaks over the side of the bowl onto the floor a little. So glad we don't have a 5 gallon!

      @bryman31 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@averagealice8877 why would you NOT want the 5 gallon?

    • @averagealice8877
      @averagealice8877 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bryman31 Well the 5 gallon weighs over 40 lbs when full and carrying that amount of sewage through our van and being careful not to drop it when it’s disposal time can be hard for people like me. Also the 5 gallon is too tall for our storage area. But the 2.5 gallon has been filling up very quickly with 2 people using it.

    Much ado about #2. I ask guests to go before we leave. BUTT--sometimes you gotta go. Nice thing about being over 70--not that big a deal.

    How much water do you use to fill the top tank?

    • @AppleRob
      @AppleRob  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The unit holds about 2.5 gal and we normally only put about 1.5 gal in so we don't end up with an overflowing waste tank. When the water tank runs dry we know it's time to empty it.

    I've watched 5 or 6 reviews. All were of toilets that have never been used. That's not a review, it's a box opening.

      I'm sure you don't want to see someone demoing the toilet with actual human waste do you? lol Good point, we will post an update video soon now that we have been using the pottie for several months. Here's a sneak peak: so far so good. It does the trick and doesn't leak... yet!

      @@AppleRob of course not. But they should use it in order to report how it works out.

    Quite frankly, that Porta Potti is way too complicated and much work, and I sure wouldn't want to clean it. My Rhodes 22 has a marine toilet with a holding tank, but I never use it as such. I just put Wag bags inside the toilet and dispose of them after use. No mess, no cleaning, no smell, and much cheaper. There are numerous foldable or collapsable camp toilets on Amazon that take up much less space than the Porta Potti when not in use.
