      @@Annie_Annie__ you aren't the only one hunny. I think most of the "words" aren't meant to be heard. It's just to keep rhythm and you're only supposed to listen for the numbers but heck I have a hard time hearing those as well 😅

      its mostly fast "wordlike" patter with the numbers thrown in, its to try to psych up the potential bidders, get them to feel more like its a rush to bid, rather than if they went slowly, to get them to spend more and "beat" the other bidders

    Morgan auctions vary, sometimes stuff goes high, sometimes you can score stuff at a reasonable price. The key is to keep going on a regular basis to get good stuff. You have to be there when opportunity knocks. Appreciate your videos. Take care.

    When my parents began raising cattle in their retirement, we used to go to these auctions together and purchase calfs. The calfs were so traumatized by the whole event. Many times the calfs would already have scours and be very depressed and not bottle feed well. There was a tremendous amount of bottle fed calfs which were now missing their moms. Eventually, artificial insemination worked well along with having a bull, and then all baby calfs were raised by the momma cows on our farm. That's the way nature meant it to be, and it reflected in how happy and healthy the calfs and cattle were. It was important to diversify the genes in the herd and to have the moms raise the calfs begi ning with the colostrum.
    We have a lot of equipment, and after decades of raising cattle and hay its time to begin a new chapter. My Dad just passed away, and decisions need to be made. Mom passed away a decade ago. The farm equipment has been maintained. Everything had a place at the farm and Dad was very methodical to make sure that things always were put away properly.
    The horse trailer made me chuckle. We have one just like the one shown. So many trips to carry livestock and then also moving college children possessions back and forth in and out of campus apartments. Good times👍
    I miss my parents, but I will always have the memories of family pitching in together to make projects come together ❤ There were always projects. Dad always said that "hard work is good work." We would work all day, and then just as the sun was setting, he would tell his children that the rest of the day was yours💕 With that, we kids would then scatter like sparks up a chimney.😂

    Auctions are my favorite way to spend a day. This is also the best way to get garden tools. The last one I got a bundle of like 20 different tools for 30 dollars. Some of them sell for way more than that each! One shovel was 45 dollars!

    Since you're no longer working, Morgan, you'll have more opportunities to attend such events. It's grim to say it, but estate sales are also good to attend because you never really know what they're selling. It's usually household goods, but if it was a farm or was a farm at one time, you never know if they'll have something worthwhile.

    Going to a farm auction for the first while is all about learning. Learn who wants what and who bids for what learning patterns. I used to go to an auction before I moved that was twice a week. I knew who not to go up against for items cause they were going to run me up just to make sure everyone else paid more. Half the auction experience is observation.

      Consider investing in an aluminum trailer. I just got a 20+ year horse trailer, stored outside in northern winters... no rust and looks great and will hold its resale value.
      Always check any sub flooring in a trailer, below any padding. Jump up and down, if you feel any movement, just imagine a much larger animal standing on it and possibly breaking through.

    Something you should realize about farm auctions. Rarely will you find deals. It's more fellow farmers trying to help another farmer that has to liquidate due to death, illness or foreclosure. It's about helping your community and a fellow farmer because you could be in that situation yourself one day.

    I planned to attend an retirement auction for a nearby rental company. I looked on-line at what equipment would be auctioned and found they were accepting on-line bids. One look showed that everything was way over market pricing. Good example was a dual axle trailer with ramps nearly identical to mine and the on-line bid was nearly $1k more than I paid new.

  • @astra1653

    • @oldsguy354
      @oldsguy354 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It definitely looked nice, but price is key. Plus you kinda need a building big enough to be able to use all that stove, but I'm in Texas and a much smaller stove would be plenty for the house, and I don't know of anyone that intentionally heats a livestock barn (much less with an unattended wood stove), but things are probably a lot different in very cold environments.

    • @marieellis6084
      @marieellis6084 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@oldsguy354 it was more likely someones house stove. It was too nice to have been used any other way. That wood stove would work perfectly in a house in NC as well. The wood stove we had was larger than this one. My gpa got it made up in Marion, NC. We had a mountain house there with a wood stove in the basement that was large enough for a grown man to fit inside. (Though he would have to curl his legs up)
      I'd be terrified to leave a wood stove unattended in a barn. That's a bad idea bc one smoldering coal that pops off the wood could set something on fire ya know. But it's perfect for north Eastern weather. Winter can get pretty cold, even in NC it can drop to 10°F on very cold winter nights.

    Pretty, good looking stock trailers are for rich people. They all get beat up over time and look rough if they are being used. Just be sure and keep up with the axle bearings, tires, tongue jack (if equipped) and hitching mechanism/safety chains and the lights. A beat up old stock trailer with good axle bearings and functional lights are downright luxurious around here (Texas). That PTO driven mower deck/brush cutter looked pretty nice, and I don't think I've ever seen used troughs that looked that good. Lol But price is key on that stuff. For the record, I've seen 3 year old stock trailers with fancy paint jobs on the side of the road with blown tires and locked up axles, with distressed animals still inside, so "pretty" isn't everything. ;)

      @@marclytle644 There's got to be some tradition involved, but if I wanted to speed things along I'd be thinking of putting the price on a large electric display with proposed upbids displayed next to that.

    Farm auction something like garage sale and the farmer use that money to buy new equipment or that farm went bankrupt and have to sell off everything?

      When you see nice equipment at a farm auction, I'm willing to bet that the stuff is from a place that went belly up or the owner(s) died and the kids are liquidating the stuff because they don't want to run the farm, or they are trying to cover debt that came with the farm. The real old stuff, and I mean many decades old, could be someone selling antique/collectable farm equipment and is usually overpriced. I've seen (what I would call) wealthy people buy stuff like that for driveway decoration at a hobby farm/ranch, to make the place look rustic. With the exception of some old Ford 9N, 2N, or 8N tractors, which aren't all that hard to make run and would still have limited uses on a modern commercial farm/ranch, most of the really old machinery is just too difficult to make useful and are best relegated for use as decoration.
