On the topic of r34 art, I've met several people who have stated that they've gotten frustrated over how they can never find NSFW art of a character that was drawn accurately to the original design. They're either women with giant balloon titties, bubble butts, waxy skin, or dudes that look like they've been through 20+ volumes of a Bara comic.
And that can be annoying to a lot of people because the reason they want to find NSFW art of a specific character was because they liked the *original* design. That's not to say that exaggeration and/or personal interpretations can't ever exist, but it's just hard for those who want an accurate depiction of the character to be shown, but are stuck in a sea of impossible muscles and basketball boobahs.
As one person put it, "what's the point of looking up nsfw of a specific character if all of the art looks nothing like the character?" So yeah, though I don't think representation in sexy fanart is necessarily as important as officially licensed works, it can be nice to see once in a while.
*TL;DR:* If you can find a NSFW artist that can draw a character accurately while still making them look like the hottest thing on earth, then you know they're a keeper.

I'm all fine with people making sexual art with adult characters, but there are definitely situations where it is weird and inappropriate. I have my own characters ranging through all sorts of expression, orientation, body shapes, and personalities- and designing alluring outfits can be very fun.
The world is different when one doesn't really experience that kind of arousal, so my tastes are more based on if the art is aesthetically pleasing or if the art pushes my boundaries of comfort too much. However, giving grief to the artist is extremely unproductive so I just close the tab and move on with my merry lil' life.

Me, drawing them all as hot academics:
An attractive character shouldn't be all about big chests and bulging muscles. If you ask me, there are a few factors in terms of aesthetically pleasing designs.
You can make a character pretty without sexualising them. For example, one of my original characters, Zero (pfp dude), is supposed to be conventionally attractive and pretty much aware of his looks, although constrained by the setting's dress-code. Boy ended up wearing a coat, a collared shirt and a necktie. Still, a bunch of people who know the context, read the story and saw the art associated with the character simp for him.
Contextually, this guy is supposed to be pretty for the plot, since his face got him out of a few situations and is also relevant to his backstory.
However, creators should think about more than looks. Think about how they smile, how they carry themselves, AND then, after you've got your personality details done, think about how it relates to their looks, yada yada. Let's be realistic. If a character is hot, they'll probably know that they're, well, hot. People have told them There's no way they're oblivious to their face.
BUT there are people who are both hot and smart. Stupid and ugly, too. I'm a living example: dumb and looking like a sewer rat.
If you need your character's design to be overly sexualsied so we know they're attractive, then that's not a good chaarcter design.
Feel free to start a debate in the replies.

But a lot of the overly sxual designs are just completely unrealistic and would be extremely uncomfortable/revealing, I agree with if they're just comfortable clothing and it isn't being intentionally sxual, it shouldn't be called that. Like a lot of "armor" for female characters, her bobs will be half way out, her whole midsection showing, barely having the bottoms be bottoms and instead pnties, that's a problem imo. Also when their bobs are basically balloons, it's really unrealistic and can cause women to feel insecure about their own because they aren't perky and don't look like that, ik from personal experiences, it really made me upset with myself when I was a young teen developing

That said there is a need for more diverse designs in media, but we shouldn't be demonizing what's currently shown because that does have negative effects on irl women

Yes I agree! You don't have to be average-looking in order to be smart. Not saying average-looking characters should be stupid of course. As you said, don't make such things mutually exclusive. It has to be a variety.

pretty much agree with your sentiment regarding individual vs professional art and the sexism that exists in female objectification in most character design. you can do whatever you want but if its on a product meant for people to pay to consume, then i think people have a right to criticize what they like and dont like in the designs etc. a distinct 2 groups that should have different standards. what im personally not a fan of is how these sexualized drawings have become so normal that theres hardly a way to filter out the sexy but modest pinup-esque art versus like, extreme fetish art for kinksters, and that children online will and have been subjected to it because no one pumps the breaks anymore. im very pro sexual expression and greatly prefer drawing conventionally attractive people being sexy, but i find it kind of upsetting that no media can be released anymore without thousands of nsfw and fetish artists instantly releasing some straight up pornography despite no genital or sexual acts drawn out, and when people draw say mario characters, guess what will just show up on google and other search engines within apps. go ahead and google sonic right now and it wont take you long until something you didnt want to see pops up. i dont know if this is relevant of an opinion to you since its sort of a slightly connected but not the main focus argument but i am so passionate about this topic specifically it would be fun to maybe hear you talk about that too. oh and more just bc i cant structure a sentence to save my life but from what ive seen when we have different online circles, people shit on artists like sakimi-chan for drawing her sexy art because she sexualizes minor characters and does the whole aging up thing to seem less problematic i suppose, and thats another argument i personally have against artists that draw sexy stuff because they just never seem to know when to quit it before they go too far. again, nothing wrong with explicit art in general, but theres a huge overlap with explusively sexy/nsfw artists to also draw some genuinely concerning stuff, and in relation to what i said before, gets it spread like wildfire and normalized because there is not a big enough discussion about porn addiction and the downsides of constantly exclusively engaging/creating in only sexy/nsfw content. its become sort of a meme for rule34 art or "hentai" to be seen as cursed yet sexy thing to consume, but no one really steps back to think about how fetish porn (often with harmful content and little to no real sex education) has become such a desensitized topic that people online feel entitled to their sexy content and anyone criticisng it is a sjw or something lol. otherwise fun video as always, thanks for reading if anyone had the energy to get thru all that LOL

She's clearly very talented, and anyone attacking her or artists like her likely don't really understand the art community and how hard it can be to make money. Is she pandering? Sure! Is that really a condemnable thing? No, not at all 😅

She isnt necessarily pandering to anyone. I am a woman, a PLUS SIZE woman, who often draws busty skinny women simply because I like to. Anyone who tries to condemn her for that (which I'm saying generally, not at you) is a hypocrite. Unless she is literally fatphobic (which honestly has nothing to do with art itself) I don't see how drawing busty skinny women is wrong. They exist, lol.
The real problem with society is how skinny busty womens body types is NORMALIZED and how other body types are disliked. Which again really has nothing to do with art itself.
We should take issue with actual slites against other body types, NOT for people drawing things they want to draw lol.

In my personal opinion, not even larger companies/professionals (like Disney ex.) should be held accountable to make representation of/for other people. Even they are their own artist and just because they now make lots of money/have lots of viewers, doesn't mean they /have/ to make a bunch of representation. Not to mention, if you hold other people to make the representaiton you (general people who do) want then you'll only let yourself down when the representation isn't sastifying. Again, even though an artist may have shot into stardom doesn't remove the fact they are still an artist and they make what they wish. We, the public, can like or dislike it as we wish and not forced to continue if we desire sometihng else. Personal belief, if you truly want representation of you then make it yourself. Only you know how you want to be represented and only you can do it right by you. As well, it's an open market if nobody else is willing to do it.
As the saying goes- It's better to just do it yourself in the end.
Other opinion (general opinion on topic not specifically what you said)- When it comes to sexualized males and females, it comes with a bag of comlexity with it. In whole, my sexual appeal does not speak for the trees which is everybody on this planet. As a woman, I am openly in love with sexy badass women like the champions listed. I love playing as them, their design and want to dress like them. So the arguement that many make that it's only for the male gaze, is ignoring that there are women who do genuinely love this sort of thing and sexy design females shouldn't be covered/removed. Having more sexy designed men wouldn't be bad either, but I find to be much more picky when it comes to how the sex appeal for men is handled compared to female. Though, I believe the arguement is in the wrong place. Many have the opinion that sexy women should be removed/covered in gaming, but truth be told the focus should be just adding casual designed women alongside sexy women- as well sexy men alongside casual dressed men. Have more Illoi and Jinx body types along side the Akali, MF and Ahri bodytypes- do the whole range in between!
As for Lizzo, sure have more of that body types for females, but I wouldn't find them very sexy and same goes for men. Just personally over all prefer healthy body types. lmao

I think the main problem when it comes to those who get offended by sexy art, mostly stems from insecurities or shame.
We all have to conform to something that can make others uncomfortable, even though it makes a profit; and maybe we’ve been those people who are told that sex in media is evil and should either not be shared to minors or condemn ourselves via religion or whatever.
So whenever they see a sexy art piece that’s completely off the norm of the original media they came from, their instinct is to correct it with what is canon. (Not exaggerate the proportions, no out of character behavior, degrading depictions, etc.)

I think the thing is, if people try saying you are ugly, or not attractive, it's perfectly fine to say "fuck that, yes I am". • @VOlDNOVA
      @VOlDNOVA ปีที่แล้ว

The thing with people being told to "find certain things attractive" is that... If you look at history, the attractiveness in female body types have been changing a lot, and very quickly at that. Though its not always as they think that that body type is now attractive because they do, but instead, they really where coerced to believe that that is the ultimate beauty standard. Why and how? Just watch the rich people's patterns and compare it to the trends over the years. The rich women make the propaganda and sell their own body shapes as the most beautiful in the world, and the low budget girls have either to try their best to follow it or be considered ugly.
And yes, today, beauty is still considered a very high product to have, probably more than ever. Back then, beautiful and healthy-looking girls would be sold for marriage and family ties, right now its not very different, if you look at high-end families, they still want their daughters to marry a rich guy instead of any nobody that "will make her life miserable" (as in, will force her to live a low budget life like a factory worker) or leech her parents.

    @DangerDan64 2 ปีที่แล้ว +64

A lot of series needs "context" to explain their design as well the general intention on why they are made for, so the design makes sense. There are three series (anime) where I can argue that has more sexualization towards the male characters than the female characters. The first one isn't that apparently obvious, it's Seven Deadly sins. Yes, despite how many panty/buttshots and as well as close ups to female breasts. There are actually far more handsome well suited muscular men in the show. The Holy knight trio are great examples of it, three types of handsome muscular men, one of a overall gentleman looking one, a more free spirited loudmouth one, and a big beefy man who has a gentle heart, that protects more than fighting. Then there are the sins themselves, sure Gowther isn't technically a man, since he was created with a frame to look like the lover of his creator. King/Harlequin has a baby-face, but when he gets his full wings he has the very much apparent pretty boy face and hair. Meliodas also has a baby-face, but shown to be very muscular to show he is a fully grown adult. Ban, literally the definition of looking like a bad boy type. Then we have Escanor, literally a 10 and half feet tall man with a sexy mustache and muscles no living man can ever compare themselves to. Also he mostly shown himself being shirtless. (Obviously because he is both huge and ripped.)
So already it is more appropriate they play generally on both ends when it comes to Seven Deadly sins, just that women have more reason to drool over than guys though.
The other two are much more obvious. Baki and Jojo's bizarre adventures.
Literally Chad muscular dudes duking it out in either absurd as well brutal ways. Probably less with Baki since the show does have so much brutality that women may not like watching it for too long.

I follow many nsfw artists, who just make it because they can, and I love their art styles, and they were a big ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) help in learning how to draw booba.

I see this mentality a lot and I wonder why? How is it selling out? And what business is it to anyone else, if they do NSFW or any other types of art to pay the bills? People do art for a lot of different reasons. Not all artists are out to change the world with their art, many do it because they like it and enjoy what they draw and can make a living off of it. There is nothing wrong with that. Just trying to understand why this mentality exists.

The completely different rules for two equally creative and demanding careers are ... a little maddening.

Moral issues with that aside, the other primary issue is copyright infringement. Artists have the option of a career cop-out by piggybacking other people's work and IPs. Legally, however, it is still blatant infringement. Fan art is fine, in and of itself. It can and should exist freely like fanfiction, because it makes a great sandbox to hone your skills in. Making a profit off of other people's work is ethically dubious on the best of days. It being a visual medium versus a written medium does not change that fact. If you're perceiving jealousy, that's probably projection.

The problem is that the writer shouldn't be as limited for their source of inspiration, it stops iteration and art advances trough iteration, it stagnates art. Not saying that copyright should be abolished, just returned to more reasonable expiration dates so an adult artist can reasonably be inspired by things they saw in their childhood for example. Thats ample time and lends itself very well for writers and other artists to have a wider net of inspiration sources.

One thing that heavily rubbs me the wrong way comes from the Dead By Daylight community and sexualising one of the Legion members Susie and the main reason it rubs me the wrong way is that she's in high school, and heavily implied if not confirmed to be a minor since she's a sophomore while the other Legion members are confirmed to be around 19 which is above the age of consent and you all can sexualise the adult characters and I really wouldn't care but characters who are minors should not be sexualised. But to be fair I'm pretty sure most the fandom knows this and avoids making NSFW of Susie but the small minority that still Sexualises her is usually looked down upon

Fiora isnt a First class Captain in the Army of Demacia, an army against all things magic who puts on Petricite armor (a material that absorbs magic) to shield themselves against it and against other dangerous forces like the noxus legion. Fiora is just the face of her family legacy, House Laurent, if she becomes a soldier for demacia she would be wearing the same armor as Garen. in Legends of runeterra there is a character named cithria who becomes a demacian soldier and shes decked out in armor.
Akali and zed are both assassins yes. akali in game specifically says in game all she needs is her pack and weapons. zed uses what he can to get an advantage over anyone that gets in his way. Before she started refuting her masters lessons, Akali was taught by Master Shen and he doesn't wear much armor either. Shen and Zed used to be partners before zed begin his dark quest for power, the way they are both designed was to show how much they disagree with the other and it also reflects that within akali who also disagreed with shen but she doesn't agree with zeds ideals either.

While on my NSFW account I can't even properly open commissions because I always have people coming in asking me to work on theirs and I always have some things to work on. While this is not even close to be my main source of income, I can't blame any artist for "selling out", not to mention that NSFW art still takes effort, a lot of effort and knowledge, it's probably what gave me much better understanding of anatomy and perspective. When it's not just your hobby, but a source of income, there is really no harm in doing things that simply sells better.

i think female assassins vs male assassins being less or more clothed depends on what is their primary approach to assassination as a whole.
lets pick an female desert assassin, if she does her assassinations while dancing or stripping makes sense to her have less and more revealing clothes clothes, while if she did her assassinations in the open she would need proper clothing to protect her from the sun a probably to cover her face so no one knew who she is.
some league designs are very old and at the time they were just trying to hook you to keep playing their game so they would just lap an cleavage on anything if possible, katarina is just the classic sexy female assassin and at the time riot wasnt really tring to break the mold, they were just going with the flow i think, some of the newer characters have more interesting designs that have more sense at least.

Don't get me wrong I completely believe that sometimes skin is warranted and can even help the viewer experience that vulnerability with the character such as stories like berserk. But usually unless the character is supposed to be in a very very vulnerable position which also shouldn't be overused or the character is naturally showing off their body showing that they don't care what people think but other than that I completely believe that it can really suck a person out of the experience if you're showing it all the gosh darn time.

I just had a thought, like, how making a character’s design unrealistic to their abilities to emphasize the unrealistic abilities of that character can be misunderstood as sexualizing. I probably worded that badly but an example is making a character that is combat specialized, like a military commander, warrior, or assassin, wear very little, mostly in terms of protection, to show their skill in being on the same level or stronger than another character with protection. Pretty much giving a character an obvious disadvantage to show their skill, because Their skill/strength overrules the disadvantage. Though, there are PLENTY of ways to do this in representing it through clothing that are more effective and easier to understand, and also less uncomfortable when it goes wrong. Not really a big point though just a thought, like most comments.
