DIY Gutter Leaf Blower - Modify A Toro Ultra Plus Leaf Blower

  • Conversion of a newer Toro Ultra Plus leaf blower to cleanout roof gutters. Previously all leaf blower tubes were round and you could DIY or buy a kit to reach house gutters for debris removal without the need for a ladder. The newer leaf blowers like the Toro and other manufacturers have changed from round to rectangular blower tubes. Toro does not make a roof gutter kit for their newer leaf blower. I present to you a DIY solution in using a newer Toro Ultra-Plus rated at 235 MPH air speed to blowout whirly birds, helicopers, leaves and other debris in house gutters

    THANK YOU!!! I made one of these today for my Toro. I used a plastic downspout and plastic elbows. I used 3M extra strong duct tape to hold them together instead of screws or rivets - worked fine! YOU DA MAN!!!!!!!!

    Thanks for the video, great idea, works like a charm. Some tips. Purchased the mirror from an auto parts store, in the blind spot mirror section, get the largest, makes it easiest to see from the ground. Used rivets to fasten mirror to plumbers strap, use plumbers strap to fasten around connectors. Used good sized handle (5 3/4”). Try a dry run before fastening handle to determine placement. There is some opposing force from air flow, a good firm grip gives good control. Works great, watch out for overhead wires.

    Hi Robert, thanks so much for this video. I added a 10ft down spout to my Toro leafblower and interchange A and B elbow to the ends for the angle needed to get the job done. I also add on 1 1/2ft down spouts as needed for those higher spots. This has really helped to not be on a ladder 20 ft in the air or pay someone $100 to get to the high spots that increase your prayer life! Thanks and many blessings!

    I put together one of these today. It works really well, better than expected. To reach the 2nd story gutters I have 16 feet of downspout joined together with a vinyl plastic connector and sheet metal screws. After a few trials I decided to reinforce it with small plastic rods 3ft long, held on to the downspout with zip ties. For the top end I used a flexible downspout extender. It works pretty well but I need to re-bend it once in a while. I may replace it with a metal. Thanks for the video and the inspiration!

    Wasted no time and made up a similar set up. I chose to use a flexible end fitting and a full 10 ft spout section so I could blow 180° to help with clearing valley angles. Admittedly the longer length was a bit awkward, took some getting used too. Works real good on my hip roof house that would cost a small fortune to put good gutter guards on. Thanks for the inspiration,

    Thank you all for the comments. With the upcoming approaching of Fall leaf falling, an alternate material with concern near electrical wire would be to use a plastic downspout. The plastic is still lighter than using pvc plumbing pipe/fittings.

    You, sir, have more sense than the manufacturers of the prepackaged extended gutter cleaners as they didn't have the sense to direct the flow of the debris sideways out of the gutter. They think blowing it down into the gutter is the correct direction, lol. Obviously, they have never used their own product.

  • @johnstatser7088
    @johnstatser7088 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    At first I thought the mirror was just bling. But upon reflection I thought, sheer genius! See... what i did there was..... never mind. Like others I was wondering how to adapt my Toro. I thought of all sorts of complicated rectangle to round . I swear , more than once I've stared at the gutter deep in thought while unconciously apping my fingers on the down spout .

    Simple is always better and the simplest way to to this is to climb up a ladder with a garden hose and spray/flush the gutters. Works like a charm and deposits the leaves etc at the base of the gutter discharge for easy disposal.

    Toro does in fact make a gutter cleaner tool kit for that blower. It's Toro's kit number 51667. Much stiffer than that gutter down pipe.
    www.toro.com/en/homeowner/yard-tools/gutter-cleaner-51667
    I did the same thing as you but I just used a long piece of PVC ( or use ABS ) and a good strong shop vacuum. The vacuum does a better job of the heavy crap and doesn't blow the crap all over your ( and your neighbours' ) yard. The elbows and stuff will all slip fit together.

    • @RobertWadlingtonDIY
      @RobertWadlingtonDIY  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      David M, thanks for watching my video. You're correct I did see it on their website. Unfortunately, when I bought my blower they did not have a gutter extension that would fit the rectangular end of the blower so that was why I did a "DIYversion" and video to help others. Thanks for bringing to our attention, but for the $$$ savings I'm sticking with my DIYverson. If I had to do over again I would also have used pvc material downspout.
