I haven't shopped at Sephora in over three years, and every time I think I miss those Sephora days, I watch videos like these and realize that I'm not missing out on anything at all. I have found great makeup that is highly affordable and amazing drugstore skincare products. Every time I see new makeup releases from higher-end brands, it's so disappointing. I don't know whether I'm just suffering from makeup fatigue, or it's the high inflation(maybe a little of both), but I don't have that zeal for Sephora or Ulta anymore.
I don't shop at Sephora or Ulta anymore, I buy from the websites themselves or I shop on mercari or Poshmark. You can get brand new stuff on there that's never been used for cheap. I got a palette from Ofra that was 149 new for $15 plus $5 shipping.. not only the fact that even though I'm an independent and not into politics all that much when Sephora decided they wanted to go against the one influencer and stopped working with her because of her political views that really upset me. I mean more liberal then conservative in My Views but I also believe everybody has a right to their own views and if you're working with a company they should not stop working with you or cancel you because of your political views it has nothing to do with it it's about makeup. Just like when everybody says that they don't like Jeffree Star or they don't like James Charles for me it's about the makeup not the person behind it. And when Sephora decided they wanted to go against half the people in the country yeah that really made me upset. Because half of the country is conservative and half is liberal and it made me upset that they did that to half of their consumers. And I know a lot of people don't buy from them anymore for that reason. Like I said it's not about the politics cuz had they done it to a liberal I would feel the same way it's the fact that they let politics get into the beauty of sphere and that really made me mad.
keep your face just clean as no one cares just keep it cleann just remeber beauty fades away an ugly holds it own. just keep that in mine an work on your body
I’ve got a couple of holiday collections from years ago. You could compare them to now and see they reuse the same year to year. Their quality also is not good compared to their other eyeshadows. Buy one holiday collection and you’re set for life. Because you won’t get different buying the new ones.
Sephora used to do $10 sets starting on Black Friday, and they were WORTH IT. And Sephora had games to play every day, where you could win up to 500 free points everyday, and this was when the points gave you GOOD prizes. This was 2008-2015. As beauty gurus took over, Sephora got so greedy. They also always had a satin bag with 20 REALLY GOOD LUXE samples. Like La Mer, YSL, Dior, products you WANTED. I hate how shitty and greedy they've gotten even though they're making more money than ever

Sephora’s sale section drives me crazy. They still have the Hourglass lipstick from holiday 2019, and the price is way too high for old products. Things that have sold out are still listed, and it’s frustrating. And I would love a video on this makeup look Lauren! You look gorgeous!

I took a fashion merchandising class in college in 2008/9 and they made a big deal about how makeup never goes on sale, they get rid of old product by doing those "free gifts with purchase" Crazy how times have changed. Also now that I'm a cool aunt, I've been eyeing the Too Faced and Tarte gift bundles for my nieces.
Everyone else is out there hyping us into everything we need to buy, and then there is Lauren, looking out for us by making sure we don’t buy shit because of hype.
I called out a popular beauty youtber( funnily enough she's mentioned in this vide)for bombarding her subscribers with products and affiliate codes and she replied to my comment with saying its her job, so there you go most have turned into sales people.

I remember having those ABH palettes when they 1st came out. One thing that I think about when I see older releases on sale is have then been sitting on the shelf/warehouse for years? I honestly think they have. Same when I see the same things in the sephora sale section as was there a year ago... its likely like 3 or 4 years old!

Agree. You can get regular, more discounted sales on the product’s website as well as on department stores like Macy’s, Nordstrom and Saks. The products that were 50% off were alright but I know that others would love. The Tarte maracuja balms and lip plumps were sold out even before they went on sale but I bought them on Kohl’s website. I also saw that they were available for same day delivery in my area.

Came across the Too Faced Peach face palette not too long ago (what year is it?), as well as a 50% off Jafar Starfish palette that was on there for months without selling out. You’d be baffled. BeautyBlender foundation is one of my absolute favorites for formula. I have to tweak the color because I have olive undertones, but the actual finish and coverage is perfect for me. It reacts well with any concealer and powder I use and lasts quite awhile. When I saw the old packaging was half off, I bought 3 of them.
Exactly, the naked palettes and too faced same ones were half off on ulta, plus I ordered with 5x points a few days ago so there’s a perk to buying it elsewhere not at Sephora
If you are interested in older makeup releases, you may as well see if you can find it at one of the discount retailers. I work at Marshall's, so I am particularly partial to that and T.J. Maxx, but there are other stores that have older makeup products, and if you are buying older stuff like that, you may as well get a good discount.

In Europe we don't have same sales like in US / Canada. So they actually drop the prices for everything that they don't sale during the year and to be honest we don't have many interesting brands here 😅🙈

Sephora PISSED me off! They got us good with that BIBA sale for 10 people! Of course they got a lot of traffic=ad revenue etc. bc we all kept checking back for that palette and other stuff to see if they’d have more good deals… *whispers* they didn’t. Their sales were so trash.
Me too! I notification if it restocked and it did once the day after thanksgiving while we were setting up my Mom’s Christmas tree. Looked at my phone in the other room and saw the notification an hour later and it was already sold out. They never restocked again. Even went to my local Sephora and periodically checked to see if one in my area had one in stock but nope. No way was I going to buy it for $102 when it was on sale for 64.50.

(The app said otherwise.) A couple of days later I checked online and they had it in stock. I remember when they used to be able to order items to the store for you, if it was available online.
I'm glad you made this video becasue Sephora's just come to the UK, and although most of the brands you could get in the UK easily without annoying shipping costs, it was still a giddy feeling having a brand new retailer with a lot of brands that aren't super easy to find here all in one place - AND with Black Friday sales - so I went a bit ham adding shit to my basket until I took a minute and was like "Girl, you do NOT need these." This video kinda underlined that for me lol, that I was buying into hype and sales without thinking hard enough about whether I actually loved these products enough to spend my money on. The lawless singles shadow I remember Tati swatching it in some video that I can't find, maybe a pr unboxing, but I remember her reaction so I was tempted to get it. (Found the video. It's was 3 weeks ago in the massive pr unboxing with James. Min 21:46.)
The two faced lot is actually amazing! I bought one as a gift and one for me because of the cost. I wanted to try it first and see how it was before I gift it but I was sooo impressed. Other than the mint green colour, everything is great and the eyeshadow doesn’t get all dry like urban decay shadow pallets. Highly recommend
I bought the violet voss bubbly blush palette a while ago on a whim because I really want to love violet voss too!! But honestly in person the colours are not very appealing to me and it is waaay too pigmented. Like no matter how much you tap off your brush it goes on BRIGHT. I can imagine it works for some people and I will try working with it still, but I understand why it was on sale for sure.
The Patrick Ta holiday palette this year was probably the biggest makeup disappointment of 2022 for me. Last year’s palette was INCREDIBLE, this year’s was a bust & I returned it! As far as the ABH palettes, I have Sun Dipped & the Nicole Guerriero palette and I will be keeping those, they still work so well for me! 😬🥰 Sephora & their “sales” are so hit or miss. I did, however, snag the Mugler Alien Goddess travel size for only $20 and the Item Beauty mascara for $12 (I use it for bottom lashes) I was pretty satisfied with that.

Too Faced had exactly ONE good makeup holiday collection (released at the end of 2017, it came with the BEST quality notebook and leather case and a FANTASTIC palette)- and that was the last time I saw something decent from the brand. This year’s sale products were HORRENDOUS
ABH highlighter kits are a throwback! I completely forgot about them. Reminded me of how much I wanted Moonchild back in the day … I still want that one! Lol

actually if you haven't tried the Beauty Blender radiant foundation, it's amazing! it's one of those liquid buildable coverage ones that just blurs your pores, so light on the skin and hydrating, it really needs more hype, especially since it's pretty affordable. If I didnt buy the Nars cream bronzer on BF I probably would have tried that one.
I am way late BUT... I did the Huda sale and maaan! 80% and I ordered 8 products and it was only 75, amaaaazing! I have been loving thr products I purchased, plus I have a back up on a couple I ended up loving! Also Sigma had a sale, love me items, but these two brand had the best sales, that I found during the sales.
the tarte gift set was actually really great quality, i ended up gifting it to someone but we swatched it together and the shimmers were really thin and sparkly!

I did FINALLY get the Rose Quartz Huda had it for 30% off and I got the discovering sampler set the tiny one for $17. Which to me is great I wanted to try the brand. Then I'm hype I placed a smol Terra Moons singles order. I finally get to try them they're local and from down here in Florida so I'm hoping it's here soon lol. And I got Sydney Grace another order but I got like 9 0 shadows also on sale.

Hi Lauren, I always love your input on makeup, what's really out there. Because of you, I ordered from Natasha Denona's website for the first time, having had just 5 pan minis and they are just superb. You said to look for Black Friday, and like you said ND had bundles and good discounts. I remember when you made your personalized 5 pans from ND. I have to say Naked Heat has been one of my favorite UD palettes of all time. Recently I got Wild West from a friend, and I was pleasantly surprised with looks I could create. The newest release Naked x Robin Eisenberg is the fresh new "something" the brand needed, and I ended up picking up their last three. IMO their eye Pencils formula is amazing, and I wouldn't be surprised if that is the product that has carried them for the past few years. I have fallen back in love with Tarte, but I do read reviews, also. I, too, have wanted to try Lawless!! You know so much about the different brands, because, Makeup World, sheer amount, is overwhelming. So, Thank You!! PS: It would be awesome if you displayed current favorites behind you, even if it's all palettes. 🌼 Maybe it's just my curiosity, lol

I'm glad you made this video becasue Sephora's just come to the UK, and although most of the brands you could get in the UK easily without annoying shipping costs, it was still a giddy feeling having a brand new retailer with a lot of brands that aren't super easy to find here all in one place - AND with Black Friday sales - so I went a bit ham adding shit to my basket until I took a minute and was like "Girl, you do NOT need these." This video kinda underlined that for me lol, that I was buying into hype and sales without thinking hard enough about whether I actually loved these products enough to spend my money on. So thank you!
I agree with all your thoughts, I skipped on all those products for the same reasons. The lawless singles shadow I remember Tati swatching it in some video that I can't find, maybe a pr unboxing, but I remember her reaction so I was tempted to get it.

The two faced lot is actually amazing! I bought one as a gift and one for me because of the cost. I wanted to try it first and see how it was before I gift it but I was sooo impressed. Other than the mint green colour, everything is great and the eyeshadow doesn’t get all dry like urban decay shadow pallets. Highly recommend

I bought the violet voss bubbly blush palette a while ago on a whim because I really want to love violet voss too!! But honestly in person the colours are not very appealing to me and it is waaay too pigmented. Like no matter how much you tap off your brush it goes on BRIGHT. I can imagine it works for some people and I will try working with it still, but I understand why it was on sale for sure.
The Patrick Ta holiday palette this year was probably the biggest makeup disappointment of 2022 for me. Last year’s palette was INCREDIBLE, this year’s was a bust & I returned it! As far as the ABH palettes, I have Sun Dipped & the Nicole Guerriero palette and I will be keeping those, they still work so well for me! 😬🥰 Sephora & their “sales” are so hit or miss. I did, however, snag the Mugler Alien Goddess travel size for only $20 and the Item Beauty mascara for $12 (I use it for bottom lashes) I was pretty satisfied with that.

Too Faced had exactly ONE good makeup holiday collection (released at the end of 2017, it came with the BEST quality notebook and leather case and a FANTASTIC palette)- and that was the last time I saw something decent from the brand. This year’s sale products were HORRENDOUS

I almost never shop the sales, but I was really glad to find that FAB cream! I have the 6oz. tub, and it's my HG (after trying so many HE, ME & DS creams), but when I saw the 8oz tube for $15 I slammed that (and only that) in my cart! (And messaged my friend, who bought two.)

actually if you haven't tried the Beauty Blender radiant foundation, it's amazing! it's one of those liquid buildable coverage ones that just blurs your pores, so light on the skin and hydrating, it really needs more hype, especially since it's pretty affordable. If I didnt buy the Nars cream bronzer on BF I probably would have tried that one.
I am way late BUT... I did the Huda sale and maaan! 80% and I ordered 8 products and it was only 75, amaaaazing! I have been loving thr products I purchased, plus I have a back up on a couple I ended up loving! Also Sigma had a sale, love me items, but these two brand had the best sales, that I found during the sales.
the tarte gift set was actually really great quality, i ended up gifting it to someone but we swatched it together and the shimmers were really thin and sparkly!

I did FINALLY get the Rose Quartz Huda had it for 30% off and I got the discovering sampler set the tiny one for $17. Which to me is great I wanted to try the brand. Then I'm hype I placed a smol Terra Moons singles order. I finally get to try them they're local and from down here in Florida so I'm hoping it's here soon lol. And I got Sydney Grace another order but I got like 9 0 shadows also on sale.

I was actually really excited to grab Bobbi Brown's bronzer palette and Tom Ford's Velvet Orchid (travel size) at half off, but I just happened to catch them the Wednesday before. They're still on sale but both are sold out (BB in shade light and dark still available).

Hi Lauren, I always love your input on makeup, what's really out there. Because of you, I ordered from Natasha Denona's website for the first time, having had just 5 pan minis and they are just superb. You said to look for Black Friday, and like you said ND had bundles and good discounts. I remember when you made your personalized 5 pans from ND.
I have to say Naked Heat has been one of my favorite UD palettes of all time. Recently I got Wild West from a friend, and I was pleasantly surprised with looks I could create. The newest release Naked x Robin Eisenberg is the fresh new "something" the brand needed, and I ended up picking up their last three. IMO their eye Pencils formula is amazing, and I wouldn't be surprised if that is the product that has carried them for the past few years. I have fallen back in love with Tarte, but I do read reviews, also.
I, too, have wanted to try Lawless!! You know so much about the different brands, because, Makeup World, sheer amount, is overwhelming. So, Thank You!!

Not related to the sale but I need to recommend the Patrick Ta balm foundation to you! I bought it full price and love it but it is a splurge so I’d say it’s a good candidate for a gift card purchase after the holidays!
