It worked perfectly for me, my mother in law was trying to login to an app an some how locked her screen with a password and then couldn't get in.... did this exactly and it worked and it wasn't a pattern hers was an actual password!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

For those stuck for password for restarting. Hold down volume n power key. On restarting keep holding down volume key. U will be in safe mode
