  • Among the tall trees in Dinwiddie, Virginia lies Sacred Hearts Memorial Gardens Cemetery, a burial ground for Veterans and loved ones of Diane Z. Christopher, Bruce Robinson, and Les Woodson.
Cleanup efforts have been going on for the past year; this being one of many for the six-acre cemetery near Fort Barfoot. A number of people gathered in support of this community for a cemetery clean-up. The group of volunteers from the military, scouts and local churches all echoed the same sentiment. “We’re here to give back to the community, and to honor those buried here and let them know they’re not forgotten.”
It was a beautiful day and the spirit of community, unity, and the sense that humanity is connected was evident as over 50 volunteers served together to remove and stack downed trees, branches, and sticks. Volunteers cleaned grave sites by pulling weeds, raking, and removing trash, litter, and debris. Truckloads of bagged leaves and debris were hauled away.
While there is still much work to be done Ms. Christopher was extremely thankful for those who came out to help.
