The idea on that one was good , it could be built out of lighter steel pretty cheap and still hold up And I still don't understand why it didn't come with a switch
We've been using this mill everyday for the last two years and haven't had any problems with it. The wife grinds about a 5 gallon bucket of feed everyday, sometimes twice a day. Been a good grinder. Looking for an old hand crank burr mill for when the power goes out and can't run the generator.
Most of the I've seen fail was because of run time , they can fly apart if you do 500 lbs at one go . Just gets too hot . You could make this one hand crank just need a shaft with a key slot and a bearing block . I've already converted one to belt drive
Idc where you are, It can be canada illinois or california. You will always ALWAYS run into guy Named Chris, Eric or Rick. who looks Eric in the video. Nice video!
Just keep it greased and don't run it to long at the time and it'll hold up pretty good. You need to break it in before you try to grind too fine if you hit the plates together you'll have to replace them ( they're cheap if you mess up ) .
I'm loving your videos I made a screen and put in mine pvc pipe and 5 gallon bucket made a neat hammer mean it was fine enough for the chickens to eat it
@@keithbennett5991 we have a hammer mill it just wasn't up and running when the old Burr mill broke . Just bought this one to get by and to do a video on since so many people asked if I thought it would work
Works pretty good if ya got small batches to make up. Nice job on the stand. Isn’t nice to have scrap metal laying around for when ya need to make them projects. God bless. Stay safe
I actually use a sun joe electric wood chipper to grind corn wheat and sunflower for my chickens it don't get it fine enough for pigs but does really good for chicken feed.
A few on freezing, not sure about drying corn . It just dries on the stalk same as peas and beans it'll droop when it good and dry, now if you mean sweet corn for seed just pull it when it's brown shuck it back and hang it in the barn where the mice can't get it . When it'll shell easy shell it ,bag it and put it in the freezer.
Hey Chris, it’s been two years since this video. Are you still using this grinder or did you go back to the old one in the barn that you make hog feed with?
For a small outfit it would do fine ( just grease it often) . A old big burr mill or hammer mill would be better but they are hard to find in usable condition . This thing is about the fastest cheapest way to start making feed
Your one smart man Chris I’ll give you that my friend. If your honestly thinking about selling it with that stand I’d buy it from you in a heart beat if there’s a list for buyers pencil my name on it!👍
I make most of the feed with the hammer mill and I have a big burr mill . That little one is fine for a few chickens or a pig or two , most of that dust was from making cow feed with cob corn
Is that as 'coarse' as it will grind? I am looking for one that is more chunky/cracked, less floury. My current grinder, made in the Ukraine, grinds it into a powered, not what I want.
Ok, I am going to use that last line, sorry but I am going to steal, "you will never plow a field by turning it over in your mind" too good. I am 64 and farmed and gardened all my life and that is the first time I have ever heard that. And it is so true, especially today. God bless
You could make a tube from Fabric I’m tight it into the mouth and tight it from the bottom and you don’t have to ever deal with that dust when done open it into the big black container you got
Unfortunately most of the dust is from the ground grain hitting the bottom of the barrel and the thing leaks dust in-between the housing for the plates . I made a discharge chute for one a friend bought to make flour with , it might of helped some but not much and made it jam up far worse
I bought this grinder and wound up a bit disappointed. I was hoping to make fine powder flour from wheat berries, but it still spit out 1/4 hulls. I tried tightening up the plates, and it started spitting out metal shavings and still was spitting out 1/4 wheat berry hull fragments. 😢
The plates have two sides one way for wet the other for dry I think but if they don't match it won't grind fine enough. If you hit the plates together it's ruined instantly replacements are 25.00 ish . It would be better if they came with some instructions take the plates out you'll see what I'm talking about .

Running a farm repair shop does help out a lot when you have to do something around the place
Way to adapt, never settle and make it better - even if temporary. Good job as usual.

Hey Chris, it’s been two years since this video. Are you still using this grinder or did you go back to the old one in the barn that you make hog feed with?
We make most of the feed with the hammer mill but we are still using this one to make poultry feed and occasionally corn meal and grits
Good review. Thank you.
Maybe winnow out the broken bits of cob and other chaff before grinding in order to reduce dust?
Grinding grain just makes dust unfortunately. How fine and fast you're grinding makes a little difference but not much
I'm thinking of buying one
This one's still going but I grease it often and limit run time
Good setup.
For a small outfit it would do fine ( just grease it often) . A old big burr mill or hammer mill would be better but they are hard to find in usable condition . This thing is about the fastest cheapest way to start making feed
Man, I’m craving some good cornbread and beans now.
I don't think this man is making cornbread. I'm thirsty for a sip of shine myself.
Why is this better than the hamer mill in the barn
Only advantage is you can't order a hammer mill off Amazon for 250.00 .
Sweet modifications. And - in Farmall RED. !
If you're going to use the ground corn soon - would wetting it a little cut down on the dust? -KJ
Only paint I keep in stock is red, black and silver lol. It'll mold if it gets even damp we mix a little peanut oil in when we make the feed
How can I get one of those and what’s the price please

do you think this rig could make meal, grits or flour?
We've made corn mill and flour with this one . You need to break it in first and be careful not hit the plates together

Eastern NC . It was 250.00 with shipping I think , might have been a little under that
Hello Sir, how would that machine work on wet grains such as spent brewery grains? Thank you
It says it's wet or dry, I think you have to turn the plates around for wet . As far as how well it would do I'm not sure tbh
